Performance of the Geothermal Heat Pump Using HFC32 Refrigerant (HFC32 냉매를 사용한 지열원 히트펌프의 성능 특성)

  • Air conditioners adopting high energy efficiency and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant are being developed globally. In case of commercial air conditioner, R32 with lower GWP than R410A is attracting industrial attentions. In this study, the performance of water-to-water geothermal heat pump adopting R32 is compared with that of the heat pump using R410A. By using R32 instead of R410A, heating capacity and COP in heating standard condition can be increased by 8.8% and 6.3% respectively. Also, cooling capacity and COP in cooling standard condition can be increased by 5.3% and 3.1% respectively by using R32. But in case of using R32, systemic improvements are required to decrease discharge temperature of compressor since discharge temperature rises abnormally in heating operations.

  • A high-pressure fuel pump is a key component in a gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine; thus, understanding its flow characteristics is essential for improving the engine power and fuel efficiency. In this study, AMESim, which is a hydraulic analysis program, was used to analyze the performance of the high-pressure fuel pump. However, since AMESim uses a one-dimensional model for the system analysis, it does not accurately analyze the complicated flow characteristics. Thus, Fluent, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, was used to calculate the flow rates and net forces at the intake and discharge ports of the high-pressure fuel pump where turbulent flow occurs. The CFD analysis results for various pressure conditions and valve lifts were used as look-up tables for the AMEsim model. The CFD analysis results complemented the AMEsim results, and thus, improved the accuracy of the performance analysis results for the high-pressure fuel pump.

  • These days, as the usage of explosive gas is increased, the demand of safety of explosive gas is increased. As a suggestion of protection against the explosive gas, the research on application of fiber-reinforced concrete has been conducted. In this research, therefore, to evaluate the constructability of anti-explosive concrete, the engineering properties of the FRC after pumping is studied.

  • For the facility using explosive gas, it is very important to use anti-explosive structure. Therefore, using FRC of high stiffness should be used, but the research on actual application under the construction conditions is not sufficient. Hence, in this research, based on the case study on application of FRC for anti-explosive structure, the strength characteristics of FRC with combined fibers were evaluated comparing between before and after the pumping.

  • In this study, a new design of an one-body type of an unbalanced-fixed- displacement type vane pump combined with an induction type electric motor was suggested. By the application of the new design scheme, it was possible to reduce the number of parts of the pump system and to cut down the volume of power package than that of already-used products. The case in this study enabled efficient heat transfer and electricity insulation of hydraulic fluid. Thus oil moves through the inside of the package for cooling and returns to the reservoir. Because of this design, it was difficult to measure the shaft-input torque. Therefore the package overall efficiency in the paper was evaluated with a ratio of hydraulic power and electric power.

  • During a reactor normal operation, a primary coolant was designed to remove the fission reaction heat of the reactor. When one pump is failure and the other pump shall supply the cooling water to cool the reduced power, it is necessary to estimate how much flow will be supplied to cool the reactor. We carried a flow net work analysis for two parallel pumping system as based on the piping net work of the primary cooling system in HANARO. As result, it is estimated that the flow of one pump increased than the rated flow of the pump below the cavitation critical flow.

  • In this paper, we designed a charge pump circuit using level shifter for LED driver IC. The designed circuit makes the 15 V output voltage from the 5 V input in condition of 50 kHz switching frequency. The prototype chip which include the proposed charge pump circuit and its several internal sub-blocks such as oscillator, level shifter was fabricated using a 0.35 um 20 V BCD process technology. The size of the fabricated prototype chip is 2,350 um ${\times}$ 2,350 um. We examined performances of the fabricated chip and compared its measured results with SPICE simulation data.

A Study on Structure-Borne Noise Reduction for Resiliently Mounted Pumps for Ship (탄성지지된 박용 펌프의 고체음저감에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, SBN (Structure-Borne Noise) reduction of resiliently mounted machinery and effect of the foundation impedance on mount performance is studied. SBN reduction through the mount is analyzed by using two theoretical models; mass-spring model and wave model, in which longitudinal wave propagation is included. It is found that floor impedance greatly affects SBN reduction through lower mount, while it is almost negligible to SBN reduction through upper mount. Comparisons between measurement and predictions shows that the mass-spring model is valid only in low frequency range below few hundred Hz, while for high frequency ranges longitudinal wave propagation in the mount must be considered.

Operatonal characteristics of the PLS linac vacuum system (PLS 선형가속기 진공계의 운전특성)

  • The vacuum systems of PLS linac provides average pressure of $2.6\times 10^{-6}$Pa under high power microwave of 54 MW peak with 4.1 $\mu \textrm s$ pulse width and 10 Hz repetition rates. The base pressure of system is$2.4\times 10^{-6}$Pa with 45$^{\circ}C$ cooling water. The outgassing rate of the system is decreased from $3.0\times 10^{-11}Torr-l/sec-\textrm{cm}^2$ at the initial stage after installation to $1\times 10^{-12}Torr-l/sec-\textrm{cm}^2$ at present. Total accumulated microwave energy dose is about 140 GJ per module. All ion pumps are working under saturated regime and effective pumping speeds of 60 I/s, 230 I/s ion pumps are 45 I/s, 65 I/s, 140 I/s under the operating range. Main problems occurred in recent year are troubles of ion pump controller and vacuum gauge controller, vacuum leak of energy doubler window and electron gun ceramic, and water leak in the dummy load of acceleraing columns. Total of 41 troubles with 140. 8 hours down time give good system availability of 98%. Down time can be reduced by high power waveguide valves and water dummy loads under development, and then availability is expected to be increased up to 99.5%.

FLOW CHARACTERISTICS OF A SYSTEM WHICH HAS TWO PARALLEL PUMPS (두 대의 펌프가 병렬로 설치된 장치의 유량 특성)

  • During a reactor normal operation, two parallel 50% capacity cooling pumps circulate primary coolant to remove the fission reaction heat of the reactor through heat exchangers cold by a cooling tower. When one pump is failure, the other pump shall continuously circulate the coolant to remove the residual heat generated by the fuels loaded in the reactor after reactor shutdown. It is necessary to estimate how much flow rate will be supplied to remove the residual heat. We carried out a flow network analysis for the parallel primary pumps based on the piping network of the primary cooling system in HANARO. As result, it is estimated that the flow rate of one pump increased about 1.33 times the rated flow of one pump and was maintained within the limit of the cavitation critical flow.
