Doctoral professionals who majored Home Economics Education are relatively rare and recently have been produced in a limited number of institutions. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the Ph.D. Dissertation majored in Home Economics Education by research subjects and methods. Just twenty dissertations published in domestic universities were selected through internet search to be analyzed in this paper. This research showed five research subject areas of the dissertation such as core concepts and perspectives, curriculum, teaching and learning, teachers empowerment, and others. Each subject had three to five references and time difference in publication. The research subject related to concepts and perspectives was more likely to be studied in an early stage, followed by the subject of curriculum. The research subject became to be varied to teaching and learning and teachers empowerment areas. The research methods were associated with the research subject, as expected. Literature analysis was common in the subject on concepts and perspectives, curriculum, and textbook analysis, while survey was in teachers empowerment. Teaching and learning subject used various research methods together. Numerous dissertation with variety of research subjects and methods would be expected to be followed to develop research on Home Economics Education.

미국 유학중 나의 박사학위논문 연구는 엽산의 이성질체를 합성하는 것이었는데 하루는 이 물질을 사용해 연구에 필요한 물질을 합성하려고 했는데 실험중 이상한 물질을 발견했다. 나는 대학원 동기생의 도움으로 이 시료를 NMR로 촬영해 이제까지 알려진 이 물질의 구조가 잘못된 것임을 밝혀냈다. 이 실험결과가 영국의 권위있는 학술지에 발표되어 미국 유학중인 나는 갑자기 화제의 인물이 되었다.

This study analyzed trends in research activity as represented in master's theses and doctoral dissertations in the field of library and information science from 2001 to 2010. This study explores the year of publication, the university of publication, the department/major of publication, and subject by examining recent trends in theses and dissertations in the field of LIS, and comparing the results to previously reported by Sohn, Jung-Pyo, for the period of 1959 to 2002. Conclusions are 1) The finding of this study demonstrate that quantitative progress is being made in library and information science research in 2000s. 2) In comparison to previous study, average number of master's theses and doctoral dissertations per year increased four times. 3) The number of master's theses and doctoral dissertations on the subject area of information services were increased.

1956년 서울대 공과대학에 입학한 나는 대학졸업 후 잠시 취직을 하였다가 대학원에 입학하여 석사과정을 마치고 1967년 박사과정에 입학 서울대 공과대학 신제박사 1호를 기록했다. 그 후 서울대 화공과에서는 1백38명의 박사를 배출하여 그들은 외국에서 학위를 받은 사람들과 어깨를 같이하며 대학고 연구소에서 일하고 있다. 그런데 최근 대학교수와 연구원들을 평가함에 있어 그 잣대를 SCI등재 논문수에만 치우치는 것 같아 안타깝다. 국내 학술지에 게재된 논문도 정당한 평가를 받아야 하지 않겠는가.

This study was carried out on the citations within the chemistry field Ph.D. dissertations to ascertain what types of documents are the most frequently used in the research process, the most frequently consulted journals and obsolescence rate of the journals. The analysis covered 42 doctoral theses presented at 'K' university in Seoul from 2000 to 2008. The results obtained from the 3,258 citations revealed that the most frequently used documents were Academic Journal, which accounted for 91 percent of the total; 27 journals met 50 percent of the information needs; and the age of 50 percent of the citations was no older than 9 years. Finally, the results can be used as a tool for the collection management of the library. and Researcher with the chemistry field Ph.D. dissertation.

23년 전인 1976년 Nebraska대학에서 박사과정을 이수할 때의 일이다. 그때 나는 학위논문을 대수학분야로 잡고 있으면서 대수학의 환론과목과 해석학분야의 위너적분론을 수강했다. 그런데 막상 시험을 볼 때 감기몸살로 대수학 환론과목을 망치는 바람에 박사학위 방향을 해석학분야로 돌렸다. 그때 나를 지도하던 Johnson교수는 20년이 지난 지금까지도 스승으로 선배로서 학문의 동반자 관계를 계속하고 있어 그때 시험의 감기몸살이 나에겐 전화위복이 된 셈이다.

10년 전의 일이다 .그해 미국유럽 남미 등 전세계 학자들의 연구논문 좀 보내달라는 편지를 1백여통이나 받았다. 논문제목은「강제감쇄조화진동자로」 J.Phys.A2월호에 게재되었는데 박사과정의 제자와 함께 4년의 노력끝에 얻어낸 결실이었다. 제자의 박사학위논문으로 발표되니 이 원고덕에 소련과 국교정상화 후 한국의 물리학자중 최초로 모스크바를 방문하는 계기가 마련되었고 소련에서 3주동안 융숭한 대접을 받았다.

우리 나라 생물학계의 원로 중의 한분인 서울대학교 사범대학 교수 최기철 박사의 회갑을 충심으로 축하합니다. 최박사는 1910년 10월 16일 충청남도 대전시에서 탄생했으며, 1931년에 당시 서울에 있던 경성사범학교 연습과를 졸업하셨읍니다. 선생께서는 그 당시부터 생물학에 각별한 취미와 관심을 가지고, 정열을 기우렸으며, 그후 여러 곳에서 교원생활을 하시면서 학문연구에 몰두 했던 것입니다. 우리나라 생물학계의 선배 중에는 졍규적인 고등교육을 받지 못하고 독학으로 노력하여 학문적으로 대성한 분이 몇분 계신데, 우리 최기철 박사도 그 카테고리에 드는 분이라고 하겠읍니다. 선생께서는 늘 정열과 노력으로 일관했으며, 대학 출신 못지않게 학문적인 터전을 닦았던 것입니다. 선생의 공적은 점차로 학계와 당국의 인정을 받게 되어, 1935년에는 일본 문부성 시행인 중학교 교원 검정시험에 합격하셨으며, 1956년에는 우리나라 문교부로부터 대학교수 자격을 획득하였고, 또 1966년에는 서울대학교에서 이학박사의 학위를 받으셨읍니다. 그 동안 여러 차례에 걸쳐 관계국제학술회의에 참석하심은 물론, 1957년에는 미국에 건너가 Peabody 대학과 Vanderbilt 대학에서 자신의 주전공인 동물생태학을 연구하셨으며, 이듬해인 1958년에는 Woods Hole에 있는 세계에서도 가장 유명한 해양생물학 연구소를 두루 시찰하셨읍니다. 또 선생께서는 흥지사 발생인 동물생태학을 비롯하여 16편의 저서 및 학술조사보고서를 세상에 내놓았으며, 한편 한국동물학회지에 발표한 [바지락의 치패에 천공하는 복족류에 관한 연구]를 비롯한 9편의 학술논문을 학계에 발표한바 있읍니다. 끝으로 선생의 가족관계를 살펴 본다면 80이 되신 자당이 아직도 생존해 계시며, 부인과 슬하에 장남 최남석군을 필두로 9남매의 자녀를 거느리고 계신 누구보다도 다복한 분이기도 합니다. 특히 자녀 중에 장남인 남석군은 일찌기 서울대학교 공과대학을 거쳐 미국유학을 하여 공학박사의 학위를 얻고 현재 미국 브르크린 대학교 공과대학 조교수로 있으며, 다음 차남인 신석군은 서울대학교 사범대학 생물학과를 나와 대학원에서 아버지와 같은 전공인 동물태생학을 연구 했고, 현재 충남대학교 전임강사로 있읍니다. 여기 최기철 박사의 회갑을 당하여 선생의 약력과 업적을 소개하여 그간 우리 나라 교육계 및 생물학계에 끼친 공로를 찬양하며, 선생의 앞날에 더욱 다복하실 것을 바라는 바입니다.
