The purpose of this study was to analyze Korean Women's U.S. Ph.D. Degree-seeking Process and career development in the field of science and engineering in the United States. We conducted the analysis on the basis of SED (Survey of Earned Doctorates) data of the National Science Foundation. Since 2001, the number of Korean Ph.D. degree recipients from United States universities has been increasing and about 25% of them were women. Their median age was 33.3 years old, and one third of them were the recipients of research and teaching assistantships while pursuing a Ph.D. degree. At the time of receiving the degree, 51.8% reported having definite commitments for employment or postdoctoral study or research. Over 70% of the degree holders were presumed to stay and work in the United States. The study finally addressed policy implications regarding their recruitment to Korea and a need for a longitudinal survey.

미국 농무성은 고등 농업 전문인력의 수급 전망을 5년 주기로 학사, 석사, 박사 등 학력별로 그리고 전공분야별로 조사 분석한 자료를 전국 농과대학에 제공하고, 각 농과대학이나 관련 학과들은 이를 기초로 전공 프로그램과 정원을 조정한다. 그런데 우리나라는 농림부나 과학기술처, 교육부 등 어느 정부 부처에서도 고등 농업 전문인력의 수급 전망에 관한 체계적인 연구가 한 번도 이루어진 적이 없다.

의과대학 동기 65명중 예방의학자의 길을 택한 사람은 나 하나 뿐이었다. 밤낮 구별없이 대학서 지세운 대학 조교생활 4년, 국내서 박사학위를 받고 미국으로 유학, 하와이대서 '질병역학과 통계학 연계과정' 박사학위를 받을 때까지 연구현장에서 젊음을 불태운 삶의 여정에 지금 나는 만족한다. 젊어서 연구에 많은 시간을 보내고 나이가 들어서 교육에 시간을 보내는 학문의 길은 내가 선택한 가장 적합한 길이라고 확신한다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate trends of research in the area of gifted education in Korea. Research articles published in the Journal of Gifted/Talented Education from 2006 to the present, which totalled 422 articles, were analyzed. Also, articles in the area of gifted education published in other academic journals registered in Korea Research Foundation totalling 228 were analyzed. In addition, 131 doctoral dissertations on gifted education areas were investigated. The articles were analyzed in terms of their subjects, topics and research methods. The results show that most of the studies looked into elementary and high school students as subjects, and the most researched topics of the articles were program development and curriculum, identification, affective characteristics and cognition. The methodology of majority of the articles were quantitative methods. Implications and future research areas are discussed.

다양한 재난의 발생으로 화생방(CBR)피해와 막대한 인명 및 재산 피해가 발생하고 있다. 국내 화생방 교육프로그램은 실습보다는 이론교육에 치우치는 교육이 실시되고 있다. 반면 국외화생방 교육프로그램은 정부의 지원을 받아 실습위주의 반복훈련을 하고 있고 CBRNE 전문 인력 육성이 가능하도록 대학에서 테러관련 교육과정을 통해 석 박사를 배출하고 있다. 국내 화생방 체계강화를 위한 중점사항은 CBRNE 전문인력 확보, 대응장비의 확충, 반복적인 실습위주의 교육훈련이 이루어져야한다.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify historical backdrop leading to the introduction of the doctorate degree of nursing in Korea, and to explore trends of doctoral nursing education program. Methods: The research design was a descriptive study adopting a historical approach. Documentation data were collected through web sites and mail survey. The semi-structured interviews were conducted with 6 professors who were involved in the introduction of the doctorate degree of nursing. The outcomes of doctoral nursing education program were evaluated with a total of 1,153 dissertations' titles published from 1982 to 2007. Results: First introduced in Korea in 1978, doctoral nursing education program had steadily increased totaling 21 doctoral program in 2007. This resulted in a rapid increase in the number of doctoral students, but the number of faculty and the quality were not as satisfactory as expected. Many doctoral program had the missions or goals that fostered nursing scholars, theorists, and researchers, a trend that seems set to continue. The majority of dissertations utilized the experimental design (39.9%), others were qualitative design (21.6%), and survey design (19.0%). Conclusion: Doctoral education that is the hallmark of nursing scholarship is further elaborated in terms of academic tradition of nursing school in Korea.

최근 Iowa주 간호협회, 제2지구 주최로 Iowa 주 Marshall town 에서 개최된 토론회기사가 우리에게 좋은 참고재료가 될 것같아 여기 옮기기로 했다. 이 토론회에는 간호원을 위시하여 병원행정관, 학생 및 기타 간호사업에 관심을 가진 인사들 약 500명이 참석하였었다. 왜 이 많은 사람들이 이 문제에 흥미를 가지고, 토론회를 열게끔 되고 참석하게끔 되었는가 하는 의문에 대한 해답을 원문의 편집자는 아래와 같이 풀이하고 있다. 즉 ''간호교육에 대한 깊은 관심과 나아가서는 간호사업이 당면한 딜렘마에 대한 절실한 관심 때문이다''라고. 이 문제 토론을 이끌어 주신 분은 Iowa주에 있는 Iowa주립대학교 간호대학 학장이시며 저명한 간호교육자이신 Laura C. Dustan 여사와 New York의 Albany Medical Center 의무부총장인 Thomas Hale 박사의 두분인데 Hale박사는 병원 부속 간호학교제도를 제창하는 분이다. 여기 위 두분의 연설문과 연설 후에 있었던 방청객과의 질의 및 토론의 발체문을 제한된 지면 관계로 일부만 실리겠다.
