The Verification System of the Customer Barcode for the Advanced Automatic Processing of the Mail Items (우편물 자도처리 촉진을 위한 우편용 고객 바코드 검증 시스템)

  • Currently, in the most mail automatic processing centers, after facing and canceling, envelope mail is passed through an Optical Character Recognition/Barcode Sorter(OCR/BS) to read the address and 3 of 5 fluorescent(luminescent) barcode is applied. Normally, 30%∼35% of this mail is rejected. The usual reasons for read failure are poor printing quality of address and barcode, script printing and failure to locate the address. This paper describes a verification system of the postal 3 of 5 customer barcode for solving this problem. The certification system of the 3 of 5 customer barcode consists of barcode verification system and postal address database. The purpose of certification system of the customer barcode verifies the postal 3 of 5 customer barcode and tests matching of mail piece postal address, and retrieves postal code.

  • A segmentation process extracts an interesting area of barcode in an image and gives a crucial impart on the performance of barcode verifier. Previous segmentation methods occurs some issues as follows. First, it is very hard to determine a threshold of length in Hough Line transform because it is sensitive. Second, Morphology transform delays the process when you conduct dilation and erosion operations during the image extraction. Therefore, we proposes a novel Converged Harris Corner detection-based segmentation method to detect an interesting area of barcode in Data Matrix. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed method, we conduct experiments by a dataset of barcode in accordance with size and location in an image. In result, our method solves the problems of delay and surrounding environments, threshold setting, and extracts the barcode area 100% from test images.

  • Two-dimensional PDF417 bar code has a wide range of use and has a storage capacity to compress a large amount of data. With these characteristics, PDF417 has been used in various ways to prevent the forgery and alteration of important information in documents. On the other hand, previous decoding methods in PDF417 barcode are slow and inefficient because they simply employ the standard specifications of AIM (Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility). Therefore, this paper propose an efficient and fast algorithm of decoding PDF417 bar code. As a result, the proposed decoding algorithm will be more faster and efficient than previous methods.

  • In the paper, we propose a levitation and a propulsion controller for the magnetic levitation logistic transportation system. The levitation controller is designed considering the mutual influence of the electromagnets to minimize roll and pitch movements. In order to solve the structural disadvantages of the magnetic levitation transportation system, we improve the problem of the existing controller by applying the exponential filter to the reference input. DSP-based control hardware is developed and the levitation control method is verified by levitation experiments to the air gap goal. The propulsion controller uses the space vector voltage modulation method. The propulsion controller is designed to follow the position and velocity profile by detecting the absolute position from the bar code information attached to the rail. The position control result shows satisfactory performance through the propulsion control reciprocating motion experiment.
