Human Papilloma viruses (HPVs) are etiological agents for cervical cancer and are classified into low- and high-risk categories. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of the HPV genotype in the HPV screening test of Korean women using PCR-direct sequencing. Consensus primers of L1 legion were used for the amplification of HPV DNA and the PCR products (450 bps) obtained were analyzed by automatic sequencing. Sequences were compared with those in GenBank by using the BLAST program. Cervical swab samples of 3,978 women (20-73 years) were tested and the average age was 37.6 years. In this study, 1,174 samples were HPV positive out of 3,978 cervical swab samples screened (29.5%) and 136 samples (11.6%) showed a double infection. A total of 1,310 HPV genotypes were analyzed. The HPV positive rate was the lowest in the 20 years group (69.5%) and most of the samples of the > 60 years group were found HPV positive. Among thirty seven different HPV types identified by sequencing, 21 were HPV high risk types and 16 HPV low risk types were 69.8% (914/1,310) and 26.0% (340/1,310), respectively. In HPV high-risk types, 16 (13.21%), was the most frequently found. HPV 53 (9.62%) and 58 (9.24%) were also frequently found. This group was followed by HPV types 70 (5.50%), 33 (4.73%), 66 (4.20%), 18 (4.05%), 52 (4.05%), 31 (3.97%) and 56 (3.51%) in descending order of frequency. Among HPV low-risk types, 62 (4.20%), 6 (3.59%), 81 (3.59%), 84 (3.51%), and 11 (2.6%) were frequently found. In conclusion, PCR-direct sequencing could be used for quick and reliable typing of known and novel HPVs from clinical specimens. This data could be useful for epidemiological study of HPV and it also allows type-specific follow-up of women who have been treated for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
Serological evaluation for the poultry is important for various reasons, such as designing and assessing the vaccination program and diagnosing diseases and for this reason, serologic tests for the layer flocks have been conducted on a regular basis. Moreover, the nationwide serological survey and analysis are essential to understand the epidemiological status of national poultry industry. In this sense, the study was conducted to evaluate the immune status of the layer flocks with the sera submitted to Avian Disease Laboratory, Chungbuk National University in 2009, and several important viral diseases were selected for evaluation including low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI), Newcastle disease (ND), infectious bronchitis (IB) and avian metapneumovirus (aMPV). For LPAI and ND, the age-related patterns of geometric mean titer (GMT) changes were similar but there were differences in the flock positive rate and the level of GMT due to the different vaccination policy. In the case of IB, the values of GMT showed that the field infection was more prevalent than expected. For aMPV, positive birds in a flock increased as the layers got older, which reflected the course of field infection because vaccination against aMPV was not allowed in 2009. From this study, the immune status for the main viral diseases in layers became more clarified but this information was limited because of only one year study. Therefore, serological survey needs to be conducted on a yearly basis and furthermore include broilers and breeders for a better understanding of the health status in the national poultry industry.
A duplex RT-PCR (dRT-PCR) assay was developed for the simultaneous detection and discrimination of non-virulent and virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) in a single PCR tube. Primers targeting the large polymerase protein (L) gene and the fusion protein (F) gene of NDV were designed to detect all NDVs (by common type PCR primers) and virulent NDVs (by pathotype PCR primers), respectively and evaluated experimentally with reference NDV strains and other poultry viral pathogens. PCR products of the expected size of 386 bp were amplified from all NDV samples whereas PCR products of the expected size of 229 bp were amplified from virulent NDV samples alone. Cross reaction was not observed with other avian viral pathogens. The detection limit of NDV by the dRT-PCR was estimated to be $10^3$ 50% egg infectious dose/0.1 mL. In the dRT-PCR using field isolates of NDV, the pathotype PCR primers detected specifically all of virulent field isolates of NDV from Malaysia, Pakistan and China whereas common type PCR primers detected 94.4% (51/54) of field isolates of NDV from China. Three Chinese NDV isolates with false negative result were non-virulent viruses. Our results indicate that the dRT-PCR might provide a rapid and simple tool for rapid simultaneous detection and discrimination of non-virulent and virulent NDVs. Therefore the developed dRT-PCR assay provides a powerful novel means for the rapid diagnosis of Newcastle disease.
Purpose: To analyze the clinical spectrum of posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) after liver transplantation in children. Methods: From January 1988 to June 2009, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 8 PTLD cases among 148 pediatric patients underwent liver transplantation. The age at transplantation, time of presentation after transplantation, clinical manifestations, histologic diagnosis, results of EBV (Epstein-Barr virus) assessments, managements and outcomes of PTLD were investigated. Results: The prevalence of PTLD in liver transplant pediatric recipients was 5.4% (8 of 148). The mean age of patients was 25.4${\pm}$21.3 months (range 10 to 67 months). Seven of 8 patients (87.5%) underwent liver transplantation before 1 year of age. The common clinical presentations were persistent fever (8 of 8, 100%) and bloody diarrhea (6 of 8, 75%). PTLD was diagnosed with gastrointestinal endoscopic biopsies in five patients and surgical biopsies in three. Histologic findings showed early lesion in three patients, polymorphic in two, and monomorphic in three. Burkitt lymphoma and lymphoblastic lymphoma were found in two of 3 monomorphic patients. Seven of 8 patients were found with EBV-positive. Eight patients were treated with dose reduction of immunosuppressants and infusion of ganciclovir. Rituximab was added to four patients. PTLD were successfully managed in all patients except one who died of sepsis during chemotherapy. Conclusion: Major risk factor of PTLD was to undergo liver transplantation before 1 year of age. Continuous monitoring for EBV viral load and gastrointestinal endoscopic biopsy may be useful to early detection of PTLD.
Purpose : The serial clinical findings, biochemical results, and serological hepatitis B virus(HBV) markers in Korean children with chronic HBV infection were analyzed to determine the relationships among these factors. Methods : Ninety children have been chosen from those who have visited to the Department of Pediatrics at St. Vincent's Hospital in The Catholic University of Korea from July 1st, 1995 to June 30th, 2000. The sample patients were followed up for over six months. HBV markers and liver function tests were all performed. Results : All children were asymptomatic at presentation. Eighty-three percent of the children had a history of chronic HBV infection in their families. Eighty-one percent were HBeAg positive, 16% were anti-HBe positive, while 3% were all HBeAg and anti-HBe negative. The prevalence of HBeAg among three age groups : 0~5; 6~10; and 11~15 year-old was 90%, 96% and 61% respectively. The prevalence of HBeAg in less than 10 year-old group was significantly higher than 11~15 year-old group(P=0.001). Serum ALT levels were within 40 IU/L in 64% children, 41~80 IU/L in 17%, 81~200 IU/L in 10%, and beyond 201 IU/L in 9%. The percentage of abnormality of ALT levels in HBeAg positive patients was significantly higher than that of HBeAg negative(P=0.036). Eleven of the 73 HBeAg positive children lost their HBeAg and seroconverted to anti-HBe. In these cases, all had transient elevations in ALT levels before HBeAg seroconversions. The annual rates of spontaneous seroconversion of HBeAg and HBsAg were 9.7% and 0.6%, respectively. Conclusion : Recognition of the dynamics of these changes in viral markers and biochemical findings is needed in the selection and evaluation of therapeutic regimens, establishment of treatment, and calling for controlled trials with adequate follow-up. The hepatitis B carrier state may be asymptomatic in children however, continued surveillance of carriers is important to determine the individual adverse prognostic factors of chronic HBV infections.

A reverse transcriptase loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assay was evaluated to monitor infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) from artificially infected rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. The cumulative mortalities of fish challenged with IHNV at $10^{6.5}\;TCID_{50}$/fish, $10^{5.5}\;TCID_{50}$/fish and $10^{4.5}\;TCID_{50}$/fish were 40%, 0% and 0%, respectively. Dead fish and survivors at 16 and 28 d post-challenge in each group were employed for IHNV detection by RT-LAMP assay and virus isolation using BF-2 cells. IHNV from $10^{4.3}$ to $10^{6.8}\;TCID_{50}/ml$ was isolated from all the dead fish and also detected in all of the examined dead fish by RT-LAMP assay. In survivors at 16 d, 60% (3/5 fish, $10^{2.8}-10^{5.05}\;TCID_{50}/ml$), 20% (1/5 fish, $10^{1.05}\;TCID_{50}/ml$) and 60% (3/5 fish, $10^{1.05}-10^{4.8}\;TCID_{50}/ml$) were found to be IHNV-positive by virus isolation in fish challenged with IHNV at $10^{6.5}\;TCID_{50}$/fish, $10^{5.5}\;TCID_{50}$/fish and $10^{4.5}\;TCID_{50}$/fish, respectively, while 20% (1/5 fish), 0% (0/5 fish) and 20% (1/5 fish) were IHNV-positive by RT-LAMP assay. No IHNV was detected in the survivors at 28 d and control fish. These results indicate that the RT-LAMP assay is useful for detection of IHNV in diseased fish although it is not enough to monitor virus in IHNV-survivors.
In order to establish ELISA method to detect antibody against IBV various factors involved were examined. Antigen was prepared from Massachusetts type IBV which is known to be one of serotypes distributed most widely. The virus was grown in embryonated SPF chicken eggs. Allantoic fluid harvested was processed to ultracentrifugation and sucrose density gradient centrifugation to produce a purified antigen The antisera selected from the field samples based on hemagglutination inhibition test were used as the standard positive and negative sera for this study and the results obtained were summarized as follows. 1 , It was found that ELISA test was satisfactory when the purified antigen was coated on the plate in the amount of about 40ng protein per well. In case of the phospholipase treated hemagglutinating antigen it gave satisfactory results when the each well wns coated with 1.2 to 2.5 hemagglutinating unit which was equivalent to 40 to 90ng of protein. 2. There was no significant difference in the ratio of optical density of positive to that of negative serum whether the coated antigen was held for 1 hour at 37$^{\circ}C$ or it was held overnight at 4$^{\circ}C$. The coated antigen could be kept in dried state without change of antigenecity for at least one month of experimental period at 4$^{\circ}C$. 3. There was a big variation in the optical density and P/N values depending on the maker of the plates and on the plate of the same maker. 4. It was found that background optical density was negligible when serum was diluted more than 1:50 and serum dilution of 1:100 appeared to be appropriate as a routine test dilution to screen the antibody. 5. Optical density was fairly constant 15 minutes afterward from the time substrate was treated and during the 4 hours after stopper was treated. 6. There was a low correlation(r=0.42) between ELISA and HI test. However, when 74serum samples were tested for the IBV antibody, 98.7% were found to be positive by both tests in which titers of 2$^{6}$ or more by HI test and P/N values of 1.4 or more by ELISA were considered to be positive, 7 Day-old IBV vaccinated chickens shows a similar antibody decay and rising pattern until 8 weeks of age by the two tests, ELISA and HI.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of human parechovirus (HPeV) infection in sepsis-like syndrome in infants aged under 3 months. Methods: Medical records of infants aged under 3 months with sepsis-like symptoms who were admitted between July 1, 2018 and August 31, 2018 were reviewed. A multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction panel test was performed on the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Thirty-nine enrolled infants were categorized into three groups: 11 in group 1 (HPeV detected in the CSF), 13 in group 2 (enterovirus detected in the CSF), and 15 in group 3 (no virus detected in the CSF). Results: Compared with groups 2 and 3, a higher proportion of group 1 had tachycardia, tachypnea, apnea, and hypotension (P<0.05). A significantly lower white blood cell (WBC) count was noted in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3 (5,622±2,355/μL, 9,397±2,282/μL, and 12,312±7,452/μL, respectively; P=0.005). The CSF WBC count was lower in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3 (0.9±1.7/μL, 85.1±163.6/μL, and 3.7±6.9/μL, respectively; P=0.068). The proportion of patients requiring inotrope support (36.6% vs. 0% and 6.6%), mechanical ventilation (18.1% vs. 0% and 0%), and high flow nasal cannula (45.4% vs. 15.3% and 6.6%) was higher in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3. All patients recovered completely without complications. Conclusions: HPeV infection shows a severe clinical course and can cause a severe sepsis-like syndrome in infants aged under 3 months. Early diagnosis and proper treatment of HPeV infection are required.

Newcastle disease virus, CBP-1 strain isolated from Korean pheasants was passaged for 173 times by 9-day-old specific pathogenic free (SPF) embryonated eggs at $37^{\circ}C$ (parent strain) and subsequently passaged for 15 (cold attenuation (CA) -15) and 30(cold attenuation (CA) -30) times by 10-day-old of commercial broiler chicks embryonated eggs at $29^{\circ}C$, respectively, The Physical and chemical properties (sensitivity to lipid solvents, low pH and thermostability), pathogenicity (mean death time, intracerebral pathogenic index and intravenous patho-genic index), safety, booster or protective effect and characterization of temperature sensitivity were measured in cold attenuated CA-15 or 30 strain and compared to those of parent CBP-1 strain. NDV, CBP-1 CA-30 strain acquired cold attenuation and decreased infectivity at $41^{\circ}C$ compared to those of parent strain grown at $37^{\circ}C$. It lost hemagglutination activity (HA) and cell infectivity at $56^{\circ}C$ for 30, 60, and 120 Min. CA-30 strain treated with ethyl ether also lost its HA and cell infectivity. Both CA-30 and parent strains exhibited a little resistant to HA at pH 3.0 glycine HCI buffer. Intracerebral pathogenic index (ICPI) and intravenous pathogenic index (IVPI) of parent strain were 1.12 and 1.45, but decreased to 0.75 and 0.00 in CA-30 strain, respectively. The safety was evaluated by mortality in chicks inoculated with 10$^{4.0}$ EID$_{50}$ /0.1 ml. The mortalities of parent, CA-30 and commercial Bl strains were 17.5, 12.0 and 0.0%, respectively. The safety of CA-30 strain was higher than that of parent strain. The booster effects of CA-30 strain and parent strain performed in 4-week-old chicks after being vaccinated with primary commercial Bl strain.

To determine the hepatitis 8 virus infection rate of the medical school students and appropriate time for immunization with hepatitis B vaccine,355 students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades of Medical School of Kyungpook National University who had not been vaccinated and volunteered to participate in this study were tested for HBsAg, anti-HBs and anti-HBc with radioimmunoassay method (Abbott Lab. kit). A questionnaire was administered to ask the history of transfusion, acupuncture and surgery. HBsAg positive students were retested 16 months after the initial test. Overall HBsAg positive rate was 6.8% and the age adjusted rate for male (7.2%) was higher than that for female (4.9%). Anti-HBs positive rate was 35.3% (36.1% for male, 37.9% for female) and anti-HBc positive rate was 45.5% (46.5% for male,44.7% for female). Overall hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection rate was 49.1% and the infection rate for male (50.3%) was slightly higher than that for female (46.5%). HBsAg positive rate and infection rate were increased as the grade increased but it was attributed to the age distribution of the students. HBaAg positive rate for 20 years old students was 1.7%; 21 years, 6.6%; 22 years, 6.1%; 23 years, 12.2%; and 24 years and older, 6.4%. HBV infection rate showed an increasing trend as age increased; 45.8% for 20 years,41.5% for 21 years, 49.5% for 22 years, 55.5% for 23 years and 59.6% for 24 years and older. The age differences in HBsAg positive rates and HBV infection rates did not reach the statistical significance level of 0.05. However, these findings and similar age differences in HBsAg positive rates and HBV infection rates observed in other study suggest that there is a significant age differences. Study of the same age group in other schools and different social classes is warranted to confirm the age difference. Clarification of the reason for such differences would provide a clue to identify the major route of HBV transmission in this age group. Among 26 HBsAg positive students in the initial test, only one student was active hepatitis patient. Out of 24 students who had follow-up test after 16 months 22 students were positive for HBaAg and two students became HBsAg negative and anti-HBs positive. It is obvious that nearly one-half of the medical school students were infected with HBV before 20 years of age and the HBV infection occurs in medical school. Thus, it is recommended to test all the students for HBV infection soon after the admission to the medical school and immunize all the susceptible students with hepatitis B vaccine and give booster as they start to practice at a hospital.

회원이 이용계약을 해지하고자 하는 때에는 [가입해지] 메뉴를 이용해 직접 해지해야 합니다.
제 16 조 (서비스 이용제한)
① 당 사이트는 회원이 서비스 이용내용에 있어서 본 약관 제 11조 내용을 위반하거나, 다음 각 호에 해당하는
경우 서비스 이용을 제한할 수 있습니다.
- 2년 이상 서비스를 이용한 적이 없는 경우
- 기타 정상적인 서비스 운영에 방해가 될 경우
② 상기 이용제한 규정에 따라 서비스를 이용하는 회원에게 서비스 이용에 대하여 별도 공지 없이 서비스 이용의
일시정지, 이용계약 해지 할 수 있습니다.
제 17 조 (전자우편주소 수집 금지)
회원은 전자우편주소 추출기 등을 이용하여 전자우편주소를 수집 또는 제3자에게 제공할 수 없습니다.
제 6 장 손해배상 및 기타사항
제 18 조 (손해배상)
당 사이트는 무료로 제공되는 서비스와 관련하여 회원에게 어떠한 손해가 발생하더라도 당 사이트가 고의 또는 과실로 인한 손해발생을 제외하고는 이에 대하여 책임을 부담하지 아니합니다.
제 19 조 (관할 법원)
서비스 이용으로 발생한 분쟁에 대해 소송이 제기되는 경우 민사 소송법상의 관할 법원에 제기합니다.

1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
