Effects of the crucible shape on the temperature of sapphire crystal and the shape of melt/crystal interface in heat exchanger method (열교환법에서 도가니 형상 변화가 사파이어 결정 온도와 고/액 계면 형태에 미치는 영향)

  • Numerical analysis which is based on finite element techniques, implicit Euler method and frontal solving algorithm was performed to study the effects of the crucible shape on the temperature of sapphire crystal and the shape of the melt/crystal interface in heat exchanger method. The computer simulation described here and effective to solving the heat transport phenomena with the transition of the interface shape from hemispherical to planar. In the work, various crucibles with differently shaped corners at their bottom are considered to improve the deflection of the melt/crystal interface. The shape of the crucible should be considered as one of the variables for the process optimization.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate a seismic behavior of unreinforced masonry(URM) structure. For more efficient evaluation, quasi-dynamic analysis method is used in this study. The influence of soil-structure interaction on the seismic response of low rise structures is discussed through comparison of the computed seismic response for the structure on rigid or dense soil and that on soft soil. The results of analytical study show that the story shear forces and the base shear forces could increase on soft soil. Furthermore, it was observed that an approximate expressions prescribed in current seismic codes may underestimate the value of the base shear force of low rise buildings on soft soil.

  • An experimental study was carried out on the characteristics of the mixed-convection heat transfer from a protruding heat source module which had uniform heat flux and was located on a flat plate in the inclined channel. The effects of the inclined channel(${\varphi}=0{\sim}90^{\circ}$) was studied for the input power($Q=3,\;7W$) and inlet air velocities($V_{i}=0.1{\sim}0.9m/s$). Experimental results indicate that the input power was most effective parameter on the temperature differences between inlet air and module. The effects of the inclined angle was negligible when the inlet velocities were above 0.5m/s and 0.9m/s at Q = 3W, 7W respectively. As the inclined angle of the channel increases, the temperatures of the module are decreased. So we obtained the best condition on the adiabatic board at the vertical channel.

  • The eye lens is known to be radiosensitive organ and catarat can be induced by relatively low dose of radiation. In the treatment of head and neck tumors, shielding blocks are frequently used to minimize dose on sensitive organs. The shielding block, which is made of high atomic number materials (cerrobend), produce significant dose perturbations in megavoltage photon beams. The effects of these perturbations of eye shielding blocks are measured with film and ion chambers for the treatment of head and neck malignancies. Optimum parameters for the treatment are suggested.

  • In this paper, the natural convection in a square enclosure, partly heated from below, with two adiabatic vertical wall and one upper horigental wall is studied nomerically. In numerical study, SIMPLE(Semi-Implicit for Pressure Linked Equation) algorithems are applied for the integration of momentum and energy equation. The grid size used in this study is the coordinates of size (22$\times$22). As a result of numerical analysis, the initial fluid flow depends on the thermal diffusion, but, as time passes, the fluid flow depends on convection and buoyancy of the enclosure. In Case 1, the heating region was been in the central position of the bottom wall. In case 2, the heating region was in the left position of the bottom. In case of Case 1, the lapse time of sensing the temperature of 72$^{\circ}C$ is approximately 15 sec almost at the same time in the coordinates (6, 22), (11, 22). In case of Case 2, the lapse time in the coordinates (6, 22), (11, 22) was 27 sec, 25 sec repectively. Also in case of Case 1 or Case 2, the gradients of y-position of the two sensors are transposed each other.

  • 최근에는 탄소섬유복합재료(CFRP)는 우주 및 민간 항공산업분야에 널리 활용이 되고 있는 실정이다. CFRP 복합재는 적층구성에 따라 기계물성치 및 강성에 크게 영향이 미치므로 가장 대표적인 직교이방성 적층재의 적층배향을 비파괴 탐상하는 것은 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 CFRP 적층재의 섬유배향에 가장 민감한 초음파 전단파를 활용하기 위해 2개의 종파 초음탐촉자를 이용하는 새로운 기법을 제안하였다. 또한 초음파 전단파를 발생하기 위해서는 탐촉자 밑면에 접촉매질인 태운꿀을 사용하는데 초음파시험하는 도중에 물성치중에 하나인 즉 점성이 상당히 변하게 된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 2개의 종파용 초음파탐촉자를 이용해 전단파를 발생시킴으로써 접촉매질문제를 상당히 경감할 수 있는 것으로 나타났으며 여기에서 발생한 전단파가 CFRP 복합적층판의 섬유배향에 매우 민감함을 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 고휘도 백라이트에 있어서 일반적으로 휘도 향상을 위해서 사용하는 프리즘 혹은 편광프리즘 등의 고가의 기능성 광학시트를 사용하지 않고, 확산시트만을 사용하여 고성능의 BLU 를 제조할 수 있는 핵심부품으로서 프리즘 도광판에 대해서 연구하였다. 고휘도 프리즘 도광판을 구현하는 방법으로 먼저, 광학적으로 시뮬레이션을 통해서 가능성을 검증하고, 기본적인 광학구조의 설계를 수행한 후, 이를 stamper 방식의 사출성형으로 실물을 구현하여 설계의 재현성을 확인하는데 역정을 두었다. 실험결과, 17 inch, 두께 8 mm 사양의 모니터용 도광판에 있어서, 고휘도 BLU를 구현하기 위해서 도광판 밑면과 윗면에 프리즘 구조를 부가한 도광판의 경우에 기존의 인쇄형 도광판보다 약 20%의 휘도향상 효과를 확인할 수 있었으며, 향후 확산시트만을 사용한 고휘도 백라이트로의 응용가능성을 검증할 수 있었다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the seismic effects of Lead Rubber Bearing base isolators on bridges. Base isolation is the tool to minimize the effect of earthquake before the seismic force is transfered to the structure. Currently, many structures including the buildings, power plants, and bridges, were built and planned with base isolation method. The simple model is developed for bridges with Lead Rubber Bearings. Equations of motion are solved by Newmark ${\beta}$ method. Springs representing the base isolators are assumed as bilinear springs and piers are modeled as nonlinear springs implementing Q-HYST model. Analysis is performed for the selected bridge. El Centro (N-S) earthquake(1940) is used. Deck displacement, pier ductility and pier shear force are calculated for the various Lead Rubber Bearings.

Transmitting Ability of Halogen Light in Different Composite Resin Colors (복합레진 색상에 따른 Halogen light의 투과도)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the light transmitting ability of halogen light in different colors and thicknesses. A1, A2, A3 colors of Z-250 composite resin(3M ESPE, St. Paul, U.S.A.) were used. Degree of conversion of separated resin specimens under the 2, 3, 4mm thickness resin were measured by FTIR spectroscopy. The result shows that decrease of degree of conversion by increase of resin thickness and decrease of degree of conversion by decrease of lightness of color. Within the limitation of results, it is recommended to use more light color of composite resin in small thickness to improve degree of conversion when use halogen light.

  • This investigation is carried out numerically for the two dimensional natural convection and surface radiation heat transfer in a square enclosure. The bottom and top walls are isothermal at hot and cold temperatures respectively whereas the left and right side walls are adiabatic except a transparent window on the right side partially. The exchange of radiant energy is obtained by the net radiation method and the shape factor by the crossed string method. The changes in temperature and Nusselt number distributions of the walls due to the surface radiation and insolation are also investigated.
