Generation of Millimeter and Terahertz Wave (밀리미터파와 테라헤르츠-파의 발생기술)

  • 새로운 전파자원으로서 초고속 무선통신뿐만 아니라 분광, 센싱, 이미징 등 여러 분야에서 다양한 응용이 기대되는 연속 밀리미터파와 테라헤르츠-파에 대한 발생 및 응용기술을 논하였다. 밀리미터파의 경우 전자소자를 이용한 방법을 주로 사용하지만, 테라헤르츠-파는 전자 및 광기술을 모두 사용하여 발생시킬 수 있다. 본 글에서는 광학적 방식을 이용한 연속 밀리미터/테라헤르츠-파의 발생기술과 이를 이용한 응용기술에 대하여 논하였다. 최근 고출력 PD의 기술발전에 따라 광학적 발생방식의 밀리미터/테라헤르츠-파를 이용한 CW 분광 측정이 유용할 것으로 보인다. 현 단계에서 1THz에서의 최대 가용 출력은 약 $10{\mu}W$ 정도이나, 포화전류와 열 관리 문제를 해결하고 PD 성능의 개선을 함으로써, 단일 소자에서 1THz에 대한 최대 가용출력이 $100{\mu}W$ 수준이 될 것으로 기대된다. 연속 밀리미터/테라헤르츠-파 분광법은 더욱 정밀하고, 다양하며 경제적인 분광 시스템 기술에 크게 기여할 것으로 전망된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 밀리미터 웨이브 대역의 PBG(photonic band gap)를 적용한 고출력 증폭기를 설계하였다. 증폭기의 선형성과 효율을 개선하기 위하여 PBG를 증폭기의 2차 고조파를 제거하도록 설계하였다. 또한 기존의 PBG형태와 비슷한 성능을 가지면서도 출력 라인을 따라서 구현되는 PBG의 길이는 감소하도록 PBG를 변형하여 최적화 시켰다.

Performance Evaluation of Analog-digital Beamforming for Uplink Multi-User Millimeter Wave Systems (다수 사용자를 지원하는 상향링크 밀리미터 파 시스템을 위한 아날로그-디지털 빔포밍의 성능 평가)

  • This paper considers hybrid beamforming for millimeter wave system in uplink transmission where multiple users send their data streams simultaneously. Hybrid beamforming has low-cost and low power consumption features compared to conventional digital beamforming schemes. We assume that each user uses one transmit antenna and sends one data stream, while the base station has multiple receive antennas and multiple radio frequency chains. Therefore, hybrid beamforming is performed only at the base station. We also assume that each user does not know instantaneous channel side information (CSI), while the base station is able to estimate the CSI from all users accurately. Under this channel assumption, the outage probability is not zero. We evaluate the outage probability of the considered hybrid beamforming as a performance metric through computer simulations. We show that the outage probability of hybrid beamforming approaches that of digital beamforming in some cases.

Radio Path Loss and Angle of Arrival Measurements to the Radio Environments at 60GHz (60GHz 대역에서의 전파 환경별 경로손실 및 도래각 측정)

  • This paper presents the measured path loss exponents and standard deviations using measured data at 60GHz to analyze the propagation characteristics of millimeter wave bands having great demand for picocellular communications. In addition the angle of arrival(AOA) were measured to analyze the arrival direction of muitipath waves affecting the received signal strength. As results of analysis, the pathloss exponents in each environment are found to be lower than 2 for free space pathloss exponent. They were determined with the qualities of bottom materials affecting signal strength. The angles of arrival by multipath waves were different with the circumference structures between transmitter and receiver. That is, the multipath waves excluding direct and ground reflected wave were difficult to find in wide space such a gymnasium and playground, however the wall multipath waves were found to arrive at receiver in the corridor. The multipath waves at 60GHz can be known to hardly affect to the received signal strength because of weak signals compared with direct wave.

  • In this paper, We designed the millimeter wave power amplifier employing PBG. The amplifier has the bandwidth from 24.6 GHz to 24.75 GHz. For improvement of the Linearity and the PAE of the amplifier, PBG was designed to suppress the 2nd harmonic of the Amplifer. The Proposed PBG have smaller area and better rejection characteristic than conventional PBG structure. The fabricated PBG shows 35 dB or more of rejection characteristic at the 2nd harmonic band of the amplifier. The amplifier has balanced structure having lange coupler which means better input$.$output return loss and higher output power.

A Dielectric Slab Rotman Lens (유전판 로트맨 렌즈)

  • A new type of a Rotman lens is presented in this paper fur millimeter-wave applications, such as collision avoidance radar. A dielectric slab Rotman lens is proposed to reduce the conductor loss and to create an appropriate farm for favorable implementation at millimeter-wave frequency. The proposed lens consists of a dielectric slab and slot lines whereas the conventional lenses are constructed with parallel conducting plates. The dielectric slab Rotman lens excited in TE$\_$0/ mode shows a high degree of confinement for the fields, low dispersion, and has an appropriate feed structure. A prototype lens has been designed and fabricated with 9 beam ports and 9 array ports together with 9 tapered slot antennas. This lens has been tested in the range from 10 GHz to 15 GHz and the measured beam widths are about 15$^{\circ}$ at 13 GHz. The measurements also show low mutual coupling between beam ports and an efficiency of about 34.6 %. The overall performance is comparable to that of conventional Rotman lenses even though the prototype was tested at lower than desired frequencies in the microwave frequency range due to our limited resources for fabrications and measurements. It is expected that at millimeter-wave frequency the dielectric slab Rotman lens will have lower conductor loss and lower mutual coupling than conventional Rotman lenses.an lenses.

  • 본 논문은 근거리에서의 차량간 통신에 밀리미터나 광전파를 분석하는데 효과적인 Ray Tracing방법을 도입하여 오율특성을 분석하였다. 분석환경으로는 간섭신호에 강한 장점을 지니며 산소흡수에 의한 감쇠가 크며 주파수 재사용효율이 좋은 60GHz 대역에서의 비트오율을 분석하였다. 전파모델로 지면반사파, 콘크리트벽에 의한 반사와 옆 도로를 달리는 차량에 의한 반사를 고려한 Two-Ray 라이시안 채널에서의 다중접속자에 의한 DS/CDMA 시스템의 비트오율특성을 분석하여 검토하였다.

  • This paper describes that the Q factor of a conventional $\lambda$/4-microstrip resonator with short load can be improved and also the problem that the serial-resonant frequency(2$f_o$) should be deviated from can be settled by the proposed $\lambda$/4-microstrip resonator, which is used to suppress the harmonics of a nonlinear circuit.
