  • Objective : To study the effectiveness of Yangkyuksanhawtang against Allergic Contact Dermatitis I observed the change of cutaneous shape, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and the distribution of apoptotic cells. materials and methods : I divided 4-month-old rats into three groups of 10, which are a contrastive group of having applied Acetone olive oil only, ACD group to have intentionally activated Allergic Contact Dermatitis by DNCB and YST group to give medication of Yangkyuksanhawtang extract. And I observed each group of mice after 24, 48 and 72 hours. results : 1. With the result of Contact hypersensitivity assay, YST group shows appreciably less ear swelling than ACD group. 2. Comparing YST and ACD groups to each other regarding general change of skin, YST group shows less hyperplasia of epidermis, less migration of inflammatory cells and less damage of epidermis than ACD group. 3. Regarding the change of collagen fiber, ACD group has appeared to be low in number of collagen fiber while YST shows similarity with the contrastive group. 4. In dermis YST group has showed lower number of mastocyte than ACD group and is granulated type. 5. In dermis YST group has showed less MAC-1, IL-1 , $IL-2R-\;{\alpha}$ G, ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 than ACD group. 6. The distribution of apoptotic cells has appeared littler in YST group than in ACD 7. Among signal molecule of apoptosis Bcl-2 has distributed more in YST group than ACD group and Bax and Fas has distributed less in YST group than ACD group.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Fructus Forsythiae on the melanogenesis. To determine whether Fructus Forsythiae methanol extract suppress melanin synthesis in cellular level, HM3KO human melanoma cells were cultured in the presence of various concentrations of Fructus Forsythiae methanol extract and the effects on cell proliferation, tyrosinase activity and melanin contents were examined. Treatment with Fructus Forsythiae methanol extract inhibited tyrosinase activity, regulate melanin biosynthesis as the key enzyme in melanogenesis, in a dose-dependent manner. And also suppressed melanin contents as a dose dependent manner without cytotoxicity morphological change. It was observed that the color of cell pellets was totally different from the control. These results suggest that the inhibitory effect of Fructus Forsythiae methanol extract on melanogenesis is due to the suppression of tyrosinase in HM3KO cells and Fructus Forsythiae is a candidate for an efficient whitening agent.

  • (1) Objectives: To discover natural skin-lightening agents, we have evaluated the inhibitory activity of EtOH extracts from 20 medicinal plants against mushroom tyrosinase. (2) Methods: Tyrosinase activity was determined by the dopachrome method using L-tyrosine as the substrates. (3) Results: Of the plant extracts tested, the extracts of 4 plants, Albizzia julibrissin, Curcuma longa, Anethum graveolens and Sophora flavescens, exhibited potent inhibitory activity (> 50%) in mushroom tyrosinase assay. Four plant extract, extracts of Agrimonia pilosa, Paeonia moutan, Magnolia obovata and Eugenia caryophyllata also showed relatively strong inhibitory (> 40%) against mushroom tyrosinase. (4) Conclusion: These active medicinal plants may be useful for the development of skin-whitening agents. Since the active medicinal plants may contain effective tyrosinase inhibitors even more than kojic acid, further study to identify the active constituents from the plants is expected.

The results provide basic data which are helpful for students to build healthy interpersonal relationships and suggest a direction for beauty care behavior. This study derived the following results: A close correlation was identified between international problems and body dissatisfaction and body dissatisfaction and makeup behavior. In other words, college students suffering from interpersonal problems also experienced body dissatisfaction. In addition, those with body dissatisfaction have made efforts to overcome such problem through makeup behavior. This could be viewed as meaning that the greater the body dissatisfaction, the more active college students are in makeup management behavior, and the intention to resolve their physical dissatisfaction through makeup management behavior was included. Therefore, society or colleges need to recognize the necessity of counseling or treatment programs for college students suffering from interpersonal problems or body dissatisfaction and help them enter into society through diverse programs. Additionally, appearance management programs, such as the aforementioned makeup behavior, that can make them satisfied with their body should be developed. Ultimately, diverse suggestions that can help students improve their self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and enhance sociality through such social efforts should be formulated.

  • This study aims to explore the relationships between self-esteem, sociality, appearance satisfaction, and subjective appearance satisfaction among college students. A self-administered questionnaire was used to survey students from 4-year colleges in Gwangju Metropolitan City. The findings reveal that personal self-esteem significantly impacts autonomy and activity, while social self-esteem significantly affects sociability and activity. Both physical and psychological self-esteem exhibit a significant influence on sociability, autonomy, and activity, underscoring their pivotal role in shaping social interactions. Further, both social and physical self-esteem significantly affect subjective appearance satisfaction, while bearing no significant influence on personal and psychological self-esteem. Thus, all self-esteem factors influence subjective appearance satisfaction, although some are not statistically significant. In addition, both sociability and activity display a statistically significant influence, whereas autonomy exhibits no such significance. This underlines the centrality of subjective appearance satisfaction in fostering sociability and activity. In sum, the outcomes underscore the interconnectedness of self-esteem, sociality, and subjective appearance satisfaction in college students. Moreover, the results indicate that higher subjective appearance satisfaction is linked with increased perceptions of self-esteem and sociality. Therefore, the development of programs oriented toward enhancing self-esteem and sociality among college students is imperative, enabling them to navigate their academic and social experiences with self-assurance.
