  • The objective of this study is to investigate the applicability of a Cu-supported honeycomb catalyst as a catalyst for decomposition of a low toxic liquid propellant based on ammonium dinitramide (ADN). A mixture of copper, lanthanum, and alumina was supported on the honeycomb support by wash coating to prepare a Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst. We elucidated that the effect of metal loading on the physicochemical properties of Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst and catalytic performance in decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant. As the number of wash coatings increased, the amount of active metal Cu was increased to 4.1 wt%. The BET surface area of the Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst was in the range of 3.1~4.1 ㎡/g. The micropores were hardly present in Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalysts, however, the mesopores and macropores were well developed. The Cu (2.7 wt%)-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst exhibited the highest activity in the decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant, which is attributed to the largest surface area, the largest pore volume, and the well-developed mesopores and macropores.

  • Based on its good compatibility with high-temperature environments, the Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy is used for high-temperature materials of industrial equipment. In this study, a Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy turbocharger turbine wheel was fabricated by a vacuum centrifugal casting method. The conditions that prevent misrun defects of the turbocharger turbine wheel blade from centrifugal casting using alumina molds were investigated. The microstructure of the alloy prepared by vacuum centrifugal casting was studied by means of optical microscopy (OM), with a micro-Vickers hardness analyzer (HV), by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and by SEM-EDS. The HV and SEM-EDS examinations of the as-cast Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy showed that the thickness of the oxide layer (α-case) was typically less than 50 ㎛. At a high preheating temperature of 1,100℃, a moderate RPM of 260, and with an alumina mold with a large gate size, there were almost no misrun defects. Therefore, it was confirmed that a Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy turbocharger turbine wheel with fewer misrun defects could be achieved through a high preheating temperature, a moderate RPM, a large gate size and an alumina mold to suppress the formation of alpha-case components.

  • Streptococcus sp. is generally known as a strain that produces hyaluronic acid. In this study, we focused on ingredients other than hyaluronic acid among several metabolites produced by Streptococcus sp. during cultivation. The hair experimental sample (HAIRCLETM) was prepared with Streptococcus sp. culture filtrate under the condition that hyaluronic acid was not produced and the effect on the hair was identified. Tensile strength of hair was tested with a universal testing machine (UTM). Surface properties of a hair were examined with an atomic force microscope (AFM). Our results suggest that HAIRCLETM could prevent damage to a hair such as destroyed-cuticle, increased-faction force, and broken-hair. Furthermore, hair-related experiments confirmed that HAIRCLETM could promote the expression of hair growth factors VEGF, HGF, and Wnt10b and mitigate male hair loss by inhibiting androgen receptors and TGF-β2 expression. In addition, it was confirmed that the expression of barrier-related factors (INV, CLDN-1) was increased for oxidative stress, and the COX-2 expression, an inflammatory factor, was inhibited, thereby improving damaged scalp barriers and alleviating induced inflammation.

  • The wettability and rheological properties of solder paste with the size of the solder powder were evaluated. To formulate the solder paste, three types of solder powder were used: T4 (20~28 ㎛), T5 (15~25 ㎛), and T6 (5~15 ㎛). The viscosities of the T4, T5, and T6 solder pastes at 10 RPM were 155, 263, and 418 Pa·s, respectively. After 7 days, the viscosity of the T4 solder paste slightly increased by 2.6% and that of T5 was increased by 20.6%. The viscosity of the T6 solder paste after 7 days could not be measured due to high viscosity. The viscosity variation with solder particle size also affected on the printability of the solder. In the case of the T4 solder paste, printability, slump, bridging, and soldering properties were excellent. On the other hand, T5 showed slight dewetting and solder ball defects. Especially, T6, which the smallest powder size, showed poor printability and dewetting at the edge of solder.

  • We examined degradation characteristics of lead based pigments(white lead, Red lead, Litharge) according to atmospheric environmet condition, for example atmospheric gas(CO2, NO2) and soluble salt. Painted samples not changed material compositions but were occured the color change(𝚫E 4~31) after exposed UV irradiation. All sample were not affected by CO2 gas not only color but chemical composition. However, samples were remakably changed color exposed NO2 gas and it was formed secondary product like as lead nitrate. Such as red lead and white lead samples' color difference were 𝚫E 2 and 𝚫 10 respectively and became dark, along with litharge became bright and color difference was 𝚫E 5 after react with NO2 gas. It confirm that NO2 was influential factor than CO2 in the case of same concentration. Furthermore salt spray test was taken to figure out soluble salt influence in fine dust. The result showed noticeable color change and secondary product was formed on samples' surface. The glue film peeled off or hole, and color changed around the secondary products. After salt spray, XRD pattern showed decrease peak intensity and lower crystalinity. As a result of salt spray test, white lead was formed new product litharge and litharge was formed litharge and minium. According to the results, influential atmospheric factors for conservation of paint pigments were UV, NO2, soluble salt, and litharge was most weakness throughout lead base pigments.

  • In order to manufacture a semiconductor circuit, etching, cleaning, and deposition processes are repeated. During these processes, the inside of the processing chamber is exposed to corrosive plasma. Therefore, the coating of the inner wall of the semiconductor equipment with a plasma-resistant material has been attempted to minimize the etching of the coating and particle contaminant generation. In this study, we synthesized yttrium oxyfluoride (YOF) powder by a solid-state reaction using Y2O3 and YF3 as raw materials. Mixing ratio of the Y2O3 and YF3 was varied from 1.0:1.0 to 1.0:1.6. Effects of the mixing ratio on crystal structure and microstructure of the synthesized YOF powder were investigated using XRD and FE-SEM. The synthesized YOF powder was successfully applied to plasma spray coating process on Al substrate.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the hazard of fungi in Garaetteok (Korean rice cake) by isolating and identifying of fungi contaminated with Garaetteok and investigating the possibility of mycotoxin production. Garaetteok used in this study were the ones that were returned back to the manufacturers in Jeollanam-do due to the presence of foreign matters presumed to be fungi. The fungi foreign matter was collected and inoculated on Potato dextrose agar, Malt extract agar, and Czapek yeast extract agar, and then cultured at 25℃ for 7 days. The micro-structure was observed under an optical microscope for the colonies in which pure isolation was confirmed. The gene sequencing of the product of amplified PCR was analyzed using the ITS primer. Colony-1 and 2 maintained the same properties in each tray, confirming that they were purely isolated. Budding cells were observed from the Colony-1, thus, it was determined to be yeast. Colony-2 was determined to be a fungus that belongs to Fusarium spp. as fusiform conidia were observed. As a result of gene sequencing, a total of 76 cases of fungi of Fusarium spp. were found, among which Fusarium solani was the most observed cases (53 cases). From the morphological and genetic identification, Colony-2 was identified as Fusarium spp., specifically, Fusarium solani. The fungi found in Fusarium spp. produce mycotoxins such as nivalenol, zearalenone, and fumonisin, which may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and cancer. Conclusively, the results confirm the possibility of mycotoxin production by Fusarium spp. isolated from Garaetteok. Consequently, when an unknown fungus was found, it is necessary to isolate and identify the fungus, determine whether it is a mycotoxin producing species, and strengthen relative administrative measures, accordingly.

  • The glass bead surface was coated using a TiO2 sol, after which dry-treated (TB) and calcined (TBc) samples were prepared. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and toluene, as well as characterization of the TiO2 thin films, were carried out. The TiO2 thin film of the TB sample had the same shape as the sponge foam, according to FE-SEM, XPS, and FTIR analyses, and contained both amorphous and crystalline TiO2. On the other hand, crystalline TiO2 was mainly present in the TiO2 thin film of the TBc sample, and needle-shaped particles and tiny ones were mixed. The adsorption capacity for methylene blue and the degradation rate of the TBc sample were less than 10 % compared with those of the TB sample, and the adsorption capacity and degradation rate of the TBc sample decreased similarly as the amount of TiO2 coating increased. The amount of toluene adsorption for the TBc sample (46 mg/g) was smaller than that of the TB sample with the same coating amount, but the degradation rate was similar. In the case of the TB sample, the degradation rate for toluene decreased less than the adsorption capacity as the amount of TiO2 coating increased. This result is considered to be because, in the non-calcined TB sample, the active site reduction of the crystalline particles occurred less and the specific surface area of the amorphous texture decreased as the amount of TiO2 coating increased.

  • In this study, the hydrophilicity of the metal fiber is improved by introducing an oxygen-containing functional group to the fiber surface after treatment of the metal fiber using the oxygen plasma treatment time as an experimental variable. For the surface modification of metal fibers, changes in surface properties before and after plasma treatment were observed using SEM and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In order to observe the effect of the plasma treatment time on the surface of the metal fiber, the change in contact angle of the metal fiber with respect to a polar solvent and a non-polar solvent was measured. After calculating the change in surface free energy using the measured contact angle, the contact angle and the surface free energy for metal fibers before and after oxygen plasma treatment were compared, and the correlation with the adhesion work was also considered. The microdroplet specimens were prepared to investigate the effect of surface changes of these metal fibers on the improvement of shear strength at the interface when combined with other materials and the interfacial shear strength was measured, and the correlation with the adhesion work was also identified. Therefore, the oxygen plasma treatment of the metal fiber results in an increase in the physical surface area on the fiber surface and a change in contact angle and surface energy according to the introduction of the oxygen-containing functional group on the surface. This surface hydrophilization resulted in improving the interfacial shear strength with the polymer resin.
