Design and Analysis for the POD Type Waterjet System (POD형 물분사 추진장치의 설계 및 성능해석)

  • A study of design and analysis for the POD type waterjet is conducted. The analysis and design of waterjet system are more difficult than that of conventional propulsor because waterjet is complicatedly composed of many parts which are impeller, stator, inlet, nozzle, etc. The streamline method is traditionally used in the design of pump whose characteristics are similar to those of waterjet. This streamline method, however, has some limitation in analysis of a viscous flow as well as the interaction of inlet part of hull. In the present study, the developed CFD program is applied to the analysis of POD type waterjet. The developed program is first validated by comparing the existed experimental results. The designed waterjet system is also analyzed by the developed CFD program and analyzed results show that the performance of the present POD type waterjet is above the requirement.

  • With an aim placed on its exploitation on practical injector design, liquid phase mixing due to unlike split triplet impinging element is experimentally investigated by a series of cold tests. Non-reacting kerosene/water spray simulates the kerosene/LOX propellant combination. Measurements of local mixture ratio distribution were made for different injection configurations and different momentum ratios. Mixing and mixing controlled characteristic velocity efficiencies are measured in terms of oxidizer/fuel jet momentum ratio from 0.5 to 8. Extent of mixing and its influence on hot performance are estimated in terms of mixing efficiency and mixing controlled characteristic velocity. Envelope of design locus for optimum mixing quality and corresponding maximum hot performance are proposed. Effects of momentum ratio, orifice diameter ratio and jet velocity ratios are also presented and discussed.

Study on Spray Characteristics of GCSC Injector with Recess in High Pressure Condition (고압조건에서 기체-액체 분사기의 리세스에 따른 분무 특성 연구)

  • The spray characteristics according to the recess length of the GCSC injector and the change of momentum flux ratio(MFR) of the gas and the liquid have been examined through high pressure cold flow test using a high pressure chamber. The liquid in this experiment was water, and the gas was nitrogen. The spray images were taken by a back-lit strobe imaging technique. Results showed that the spray was a wide hollow cone at the lower MFR(liquid velocity was fixed) and the spray became a narrow solid cone as the MFR was increased. And the injector with short recess length produced a narrow solid cone at the higher MFR.

  • The hydrodynamic aspects of bow flare impact are discussed and the assumptions implicit in typical flare impact calculations are examined. Calculations based upon a pressure release free surface boundary condition are presented. While this simplified boundary condition eliminates the possibility of important factors such as splash-up and above-surface wetting, it has the significant advantage of being computationally simple. Both three-dimensional and two-dimensional results are compared with experiments. Errors resulting from the approximate free surface condition are examined. Also included in the two-dimensional and three-dimensional analysis are longitudinal distributions of the vertical bending moment and vertical shear force.

  • Locally damaged structures caused by earthquake or extraordinary external forces have been required to rapidly be dismantled because of its possibility of additional collapses. Particularly, steel frame structures were demolished by the shaped charge blasting method. Recently a research suggested a shape charge blasting technique which uses bent-shaped charge holder of copper plate and emulsion explosive charge to cut thick steel plates. This study simulated the cutting performance of the bent-shaped charge holder with considering types of explosives, thickness of copper liner and stand-off distances using LS-DYNA software. The shape charge blasting test of a 25mm thickness steel plate were used to calibrate the input parameters of the numerical models. The penetration depth and penetration width were analysed with different types of explosives, thickness of copper liner and stand-off distances.

A Study on Minimum Separation Distance for Aboveground High-pressure Natural Gas Pipelines (지상 고압 천연가스 배관의 최소 이격거리 기준에 관한 연구)

  • In Korea, the minimum separation distance between aboveground high-pressure natural gas pipeline and buildings is regulated by Korea gas safety (KGS) code. In this paper, The technical backgrounds for the revision of the KGS code related to the minimum separation distance was presented. A consequence-based approach was adopted to determine the minimum separation distance by a reasonable accident scenario, which was a jet fire caused by the rupture of one inch branch line attached the gas pipeline. Where, the higher thermal radiation flux threshold was selected for workers in industrial area than for people in non-industrial area, because the workers in industrial area were able to escape in a shorter time than the people in public. As result of consequence analysis for the accident scenario, we suggested the KGS code revision that the minimum separation distances between high-pressure natural gas pipeline installed above ground and buildings should be 30 meter in non-industrial area and 15 meter in industrial area. The revised code was accepted by the committee of the KGS code and now in effect.

  • 전 세계적으로 기후변화의 영향으로 인해 수문·기상 등 다양한 분야에서 심각성이 야기되고 있으며, 가뭄, 집중호우, 태풍 등과 같은 자연재해의 발생빈도와 피해가 증가하고 있다. 우리나라의 경우 봄철 가뭄의 발생빈도가 증가하고 있으며, 발생지역이 확산되는 추세이다. 증발산량(evapotranspiration)은 기상학과 수문학에 주요한 농업기상 매개 변수로 다루어지며, 작물의 생육·성장에 필요한 물 수요 및 관개용수 산정에 필요한 인자로 가뭄 분석에 활용하는 중요 인자들 중 하나다. 증발산량 자료 구축에는 증발산계 (Lysimeter)를 이용하여 현장 데이터를 실측하는 방법과 구조화된 알고리즘을 통해 증발산량을 산출하는 방법으로 나누어진다. 우리나라의 경우 증발산계가 설치된 지역이 많지 않고 분포도 조밀하지 않으며, 기상, 식생, 토지 피복 등 다양한 요인들의 영향을 받는 증발산량의 특성상 실측 데이터를 구축하는 것은 현실적으로 어렵다. 이에 물수지 기법, 기상 변수 기반 추정 등 간접적인 방법을 통해 증발산량을 추정하는 연구가 일반적으로 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 미국항공우주국 (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA) 제트 추진 연구소 (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, JPL)의 The ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS)에서 제공하는 위성영상 중 증발산량 데이터를 구축하였다. 구축한 ECOSTRESS 증발산량 적합성 확인을 위해, 청미천·설마천에서 제공하는 증발산량과 비교 및 검증을 실시하였으며, 시공간적 변동성 분석을 위해 통계적 방법을 이용하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 증발산량의 시공간 변동성 결과를 통해 지역별 가뭄 분석의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Analysis of Particle Laden Flow and Erosion Rate Around Turbine Cascade (터빈 익렬 주위에서의 부유입자 유동 및 마모량 해석)

  • The present study investigates numerically particle laden flow through compressor cascade. In general, a lot of turbine engines are affected by various particles which are suspending in the atmosphere. Especially in the case of aircraft aviating in volcanic, industrial and desert region including many particles, each components of engine system are damaged severely. That damage modes are erosion of compressor binding and rotor path components, partial or total blockage of cooling passage and engine control system degradation.. Initial damages can not be serious but cumulation of damages influences on safety of aircraft control and economical maintenance cost of engine system can be increased. When dust, materials and volcanic particles in the atmosphere flow in the compressor, it is necessary to predict damaged and deposited region of compressor blades. To the various flow inlet angle, predictions of particles trajectory in compressor cascade by Lagrangian method are presented and impulses by impaction of particles at blade surface are calculated. By the definition of particle deposition efficiency, characteristics of particles impact are considered quantitatively. With these prediction and experimental data, erosion rates are predicted for two materials - ceramic, soft metal - on compressor blade surface. Improvements like coating of blade surface could be found, by above prediction.

Reforming of Hydrocarbon Fuel Using Water Jet Plasma (Water Jet 플라즈마를 이용한 탄화수소 연료 개질)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop water jet plasma reactor and investigate the optimal condition of the syngas production by reforming of hydrocarbon fuel. Fuel used was propane and plasma was generated by arc discharge on water jet surface. Discharge slipping over the water surface has a number of advantages such as a source of short-wave and UV radiation, and it can be used for biological and chemical purification of water. Parametric screening studies were conducted, in which there were the variations of power ($0.18{\sim}0.74$ kW), water jet flow rate($38.4{\sim}65.6$ mL/min), electrode gap($5{\sim}15$ mm) and treatment time($2{\sim}20$ min). When the variations were 0.4 kW, 53.9 mL/min, 10 mm and 20 min respectively, result of maximum $H_2$ concentration was 61.6%, intermediates concentration were 6.1% and propane conversion rate was 99.8%.

A Study on Flow Zone Development and Bottom Change by Propeller Jets from Ships (선박추진기에 의한 흐름발달과 해저면변화에 대한 연구)

  • The flow zone through propeller jets are used in evaluating the environmental and constructional effects of navigation on the waterway. It relies on the characteristics of ships and water depth. A numerical model using the momentum theory of the propeller and Shield's diagram was developed in a restricted waterway. Equations for discharge are presented based on thrust coefficients and propeller speed and are the most accurate means of defining discharge. Approximate methods for discharge are developed based on applied ship's power. Equations for discharge are as a function of applied power, propeller diameter, and ship speed. Water depth of the waterway and draft of the shop are also necessary for the calculation of the grain size of the initial motion. The velocity distribution of discharge from the propeller was simulated by the Gaussian normal distribution function. The shear velocity and shear stress were from the Sternberg's formula. Case studies to show the influence of significant factors on sediment movement induced by the ship's propeller at the channel bottom are presented.
