  • In this paper, we improve a Physical modeling of sanio gayageum and synthesize sounds by right-hand playing styles. Parameters of loop filter are estimated from decay region of recorded sound. That results in improved accuracy and reduction of computational costs. Body is implemented to a resonator which has characteristics of main resonances extracted from impulse response. Residual signal with main resonances removed is used as excitation signal of proposed model. Amok alter is approximated to frequency response of amok and is implemented to the 15th order all-role digital filter. Beating (by middle and index finger) among the right-hand playing styles is represented by feedforward comb filter. Parameters of this filter are extracted from recorded sound. The synthesized sounds using improved physical model of sanjo gayageum. plucking and beating, are pretty similar to original sounds.

  • We performed a magnetotelluric (MT) survey to delineate the geological structures below the depth of 20 km in the Gyeongju area where an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in September 2016. The measured MT data were severely distorted by electrical noise caused by subways, power lines, factories, houses, and farmlands, and by vehicle noise from passing trains and large trucks. Using machine-learning methods, we classified the MT time series data obtained near the railway and highway into two groups according to the inclusion of traffic noise. We applied three schemes, stochastic gradient descent, support vector machine, and random forest, to the time series data for the highspeed train noise. We formulated three datasets, Hx, Hy, and Hx & Hy, for the time series data of the large truck noise and applied the random forest method to each dataset. To evaluate the effect of removing the traffic noise, we compared the time series data, amplitude spectra, and apparent resistivity curves before and after removing the traffic noise from the time series data. We also examined the frequency range affected by traffic noise and whether artifact noise occurred during the traffic noise removal process as a result of the residual difference.

  • In this study, natural polymer-based virus neutralizing agent was developed in an attempt to replace the conventional sterilization method for mammalian cell culture. A catechol conjugated heparin was synthesized by using EDC chemistry, and it show unique binding ability to virus which has heparin affinity (adenovirus, adeno-associated virus). To evaluate neutralization ability of catechol conjugated heparin, adeno-associated virus was used for test model, instead of using a pathogenic virus. The catechol conjugated heparin exhibited resistance to high concentration of salt and complete inactivation of adeno-associated virus. The result suggests that the catechol conjugated heparin, which is biocompatible and efficiency, may replace conventional sterilization method for mammalian cell culture.

  • Purpose: This study was done to compare the physical injury, emotional response and unplanned self-removal of medical devices in patients with physical restraints and patients not restrained. Methods: Eighty patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a university hospital in Seoul participated in this study. Forty patients made up each group and the group not restrained was matched with the restraint group for age and history of smoking and alcohol consumption. Data on occurrence of physical injury, intensity of anxiety, stage of agitation and unplanned self-removal of medical devices were collected by observation and medical chart review using a structured instrument. Statistical processing of collected data was done with the SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: The physically restrained group experienced more physical injuries and recorded significantly higher levels of anxiety and agitation than the unrestrained group. However, there were no significant differences between the groups in occurrence of unplanned self-removal of medical devices. Conclusion: Results indicate a need for critical care nurses to carefully monitor physical injuries and emotional responses of physically restrained patients and to develop nursing interventions to prevent adverse effects associated with restraint use. There is also a need to develop patient safety guidelines when using physical restraints.

  • Absorbing boundary conditions are used to mitigate undesired reflections that can arise at the model's truncation boundaries. We apply a complex frequency shifted perfectly matched layer (CFS-PML) to elastic wave modeling in the frequency domain. Modeling results show that the performance of our implementation is superior to other absorbing boundaries. We consider the coefficients of CFS-PML to be optimal when the kinetic energy becomes to the minimum, and propose the modified CFS-PML that has the CFS-PML coefficient ${\alpha}_{max}$ defined as a function of frequency. Results with CFS-PML and modified CFS-PML are significantly improved compared with those of the classical PML technique suffering from large spurious reflections at grazing incidence.

  • Marine seismic data have not only primary signals from subsurface but also ghost signals reflected from the sea surface. The ghost decreases temporal resolution of seismic data because it attenuates specific frequency components. For eliminating the ghost signals effectively, the exact ghost delaytimes and reflection coefficients are required. Because of undulation of the sea surface and vertical movements of airguns and streamers, the ghost delaytime varies spatially and randomly while acquiring seismic data. The reflection coefficient is a function of frequency, incidence angle of plane-wave and the sea state. In order to estimate the proper ghost delaytimes considering these characteristics, we compared the ghost delaytimes estimated with L-1 norm, L-2 norm and kurtosis of the deghosted trace and its autocorrelation on synthetic data. L-1 norm of autocorrelation showed a minimal error and the reflection coefficient was calculated using Kirchhoff approximation equation which can handle the effect of wave height. We applied the estimated ghost delaytimes and the calculated reflection coefficients to remove the source and receiver ghost effects. By removing ghost signals, we reconstructed the frequency components attenuated near the notch frequency and produced the migrated stack section with enhanced temporal resolution.

  • Single-channel seismic exploration has proven effective in delineating subsurface geological structures using small-scale survey systems. The seismic data acquired through zero- or near-offset methods directly capture subsurface features along the vertical axis, facilitating the construction of corresponding seismic sections. However, substantial noise in single-channel seismic data hampers precise interpretation because of the low signal-to-noise ratio. This study introduces a novel approach that integrate noise reduction and signal enhancement via matrix rank optimization to address this issue. Unlike conventional rank-reduction methods, which retain selected singular values to mitigate random noise, our method optimizes the entire singular value spectrum, thus effectively tackling both random and erratic noises commonly found in environments with low signal-to-noise ratio. Additionally, to enhance the horizontal continuity of seismic events and mitigate signal loss during noise reduction, we introduced an adaptive weighting factor computed from the eigenimage of the seismic section. To access the robustness of the proposed method, we conducted numerical experiments using single-channel Sparker seismic data from the Chukchi Plateau in the Arctic Ocean. The results demonstrated that the seismic sections had significantly improved signal-to-noise ratios and minimal signal loss. These advancements hold promise for enhancing single-channel and high-resolution seismic surveys and aiding in the identification of marine development and submarine geological hazards in domestic coastal areas.

  • Relnoval of ammonia from aqueous solutions has been studied with zeolite and bentonite minerals. Zeolite and bentonite powder were supplied by a domestic company and used as delivered without further purification. The aqueous pH was found to increase by addition of zeolite or bentonite up to pH 8.5 from initial pH of 5.5∼5.7. From the C.E.C. measurement by ammonium acetate leaching method, the values of C.E.C. of zeolite and bentonite sample were observed to be 129.7 meq/100 gr and 65.1 meq/100 gr, respectively and Na+ ion accounted for the major part of total C.E.C. in both cases. In the removal of ammonia with zeolite and bentonite, physical adsorption of ammonium ion onto minerals was believed to contribute to the removal of it as well as the intrinsic cation exchange reaction. Finally, zeolite was found to be superior to bentonite in the removal of ammonia from aqueous solutions.

  • For the development of long-wavelength responding photocatalyst, Ag was applied to commercial $TiO_2$ to produce $Ag/TiO_2$ photocatalyst. Moreover, micro-emulsion method was used in order to increase the efficiency of the photocatalyst by enhancing the dispersion of Ag. Physical properties of the manufactured catalyst were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). For the catalytic performance measurement, RO 16 (Reactive Orange 16) removal was performed with 25 ppm RO 16 under UV-A (365 nm) irradiation. In addition, ball milling and dip-coating method were used to synthesize the photocatalyst for the comparison of the outcomes of using different synthesis methods. In addition, catalytic performance was improved by varying the Ag content and surfactant content. The highest catalytic performance was shown at $Ag/TiO_2$ synthesized by micro-emulsion method with 2 wt% of Ag content, and 0.5 g of the surfactant.

  • A high-dose ion-implanted photoresist (HDIPR) was stripped off from the surface of a semiconductor wafer by using a mixture of supercritical carbon dioxide and a co-solvent. The additional ultrasonication improved the stripping efficiency remarkably and thus reduced the stripping time by supplying physical force to the substrate. We investigated the effect of co-solvents, co-solvent concentration, and stripping temperature and pressure on the stripping efficiency. The wafer surfaces before and after stripping were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and by an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. The HDIPR could be stripped off completely in 3 min with 10%(w/w) acetone/sc$C0_2$ mixture at 27.6 MPa and 343 K.
