  • AVTE(Air Vehicle Test Equipment) is an equipment to inspect and check the status of on-board aircraft LRUs(Line Replacement Units) before and after flight for performing successful UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) missions. This paper suggests utilization of the AVTE as an operation support-equipment by implementing several critical functions for UAV-operation on the AVTE. The AVTE easily sets initialization(default) data and compensates for the installation and position errors of the LRUs which provide critical mission data and situation image with pilots without additional individual operation support-equipment. Major fault list and situation image data could be downloaded after flight using the AVTE in the event of UAV emergency situation or unusual occurrence on duty as well. We anticipate the suggested operational approach of the AVTE could dramatically reduce the cost and man power for design and manufacture of additional operation support equipment and effectively diminish workload of the operator.

  • Reliable wireless transmission of data generated by the flight critical subsystems or mission equipments of the unmanned aerial system is critical for mission success. As the UAS system becomes more sophisticated, its dependency on a reliable high rate radio communication system also increases. This requirement is applied not only during the operation phase but also in the early development test phase. This paper introduces a practical cost-effective communication system for a UAS. The downlink module combines analog NTSC video signal with onboard data, and send them using 2.4 GHz carrier wave. The uplink system has less a severe requirement on the bandwidth, and thus uses 430 MHz signal. This paper also presents a sample packet structure which can be adopted for many UAS of similar class.

  • In this era, intelligence is considered a major factor in the defense sector. As a result, securing technology for weapons systems for monitoring and reconnaissance of companies has become inevitable. As a result, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) have been developed and are actively operating around the world if the flight operation of manned aircraft is restricted, such as in environments that are too dangerous, messy or boring for the military to perform directly. The system of unmanned aerial vehicles, which has been researched and developed in Korea, includes Air Vehicle Test Equipment(AVTE). AVTE is equipment that is connected to an UAV to check its status and allows the operator to check its flightability by issuing an operational command to the UAV and verifying that it follows the command values. This study conducts fault finding on the phenomenon where the AVTE has stopped operating due to engine noise during these operations and analyzes the cause in terms of software, hardware and external environment. Present improvement measures according to the cause are analyzed and the results of verifying that the proposed measures can prevent failure are addressed.

  • Recently, as the practical application and commercialization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is pursued, interest in ensuring the safety of the UAV is increasing. Because UAV accidents can result in property damage and loss of life, it is important to develop technology to prevent accidents. For this reason, a technique to detect the abnormal flight state of UAVs has been developed based on the AutoEncoder model. However, the existing detection technique is limited in terms of performance and real-time processing. In this paper, we propose a U-Net based abnormal flight detection technique. In the proposed technique, abnormal flight is detected based on the increasing rate of Mahalanobis distance for the reconstruction error obtained from the U-Net model. Through simulation experiments, it can be shown that the proposed detection technique has superior detection performance compared to the existing detection technique, and can operate in real-time in an on-board environment.

  • Recently, the range of utilization and demand for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been continuously increasing, and research on the construction of a separate operating system for low-altitude UAV is underway through the development of a management system separate from manned aircraft. Since low-altitude UAVs also fly in the airspace, it is essential to establish technical standards and certification systems necessary for the operation of the aircraft, and research on this is also in progress. If the operating standards and certification requirements of the aircraft are presented, a test method to confirm this should also be presented. In particular, the accuracy of small UAV's navigation required during flight is required to be more precise than that of a manned aircraft or a large UAV. It was necessary to calculate a separate navigation error. In this study, we presented a test method for deriving navigation errors that can be applied to UAVs that have difficulty in acquiring long-term operational data, which is different from existing manned aircraft, and conducted verification tests.

  • People may operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) thousands of miles from the drone's location. Drones were first used (like balloons) for surveillance. By 2001, the United States began arming drones with missiles and using them to strike targets during combat in Afghanistan. By mid-2010, over forty states and other entities possessed drones, many with the capability of launching missiles and dropping bombs. Each new development in military weapons technology invites assessment of the relevant international law. This Insight surveys the international law applicable to the recent innovation of weaponizing drones. In determining what international law rules govern drone use, the most salient feature is not the fact that drones are unmanned. The fact drones carry no human operator may be the most important new technological breakthrough, but the key feature for international law purposes is the type of weaponry drones carry. Whether law enforcement rules govern drone use depends on the situation and not necessarily who is operating the drone. Battlefield weapons may also be lawfully used before an armed conflict in the following situations: when initiating self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter; when authorized by the UN Security Council; when a government seeks to suppress internal armed conflict; and, perhaps, when a state is invited to assist a government in suppressing internal armed conflict. The rules governing resort to force in self-defense are found in Article 51 of the UN Charter and a number of decisions by international courts and tribunals. Commentators continue to debate whether drone technology represents the next revolution in military affairs. Regardless of the answer to that question, drones have not created a revolution in legal affairs. The current rules governing battlefield launch vehicles are adequate for regulating resort to drones. More research must be undertaken, however, to understand the psychological effects of deploying unmanned vehicles and the effects on drone operators of sustained, close visual contact with the aftermath of drone attacks.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide response plans against acts of suicide bomb using utilize unmanned aircrafts to prevent large losses of lives such as the terrorist attacks of September 11. As the result, First, this research suggests revising the definition and categorization of utilizing unmanned aircrafts and legislating the Anti-terrorism law. Second, it is needed to establish the proper social safety network through terrorism response management integrated system against the terror of related organization. Third, suicide bomb using utilizing unmanned aircrafts can be occurred because it is possible to make bomb and open web site for terrorism without connection with terrorist organization because of universal use of Internet. In response to this, it is needed to make a law which can block the use and open of illegal site and contents. Forth, the increasing number of foreigners and immigrants can make conflicts, and cause the foreigner's anti-korea feeling and the citizen's anti-cultural diffusion. Therefore, it is needed for the citizen to change and improve the awareness of them, and the change of social politics.

  • FANET is an ad hoc network formed among the unmanned aircraft in the three-dimensional space for data transfer. Most of the research on FANET application has focused on the use of the camera sensor mounted on the unmanned aircraft to collect data from the ground, and process and delivery of the data for a specific purpose. However, the research on the fusion of WBAN and FANET that collects the data of the human body and passes through the FANET has not been studied much until now. Therefore, in this study, we study the data transmission system that collects the human body data of people working in the areas that are vulnerable to communication difficulties and passes the collected data through the FANET. In particular we analyze the possible methods to transfer the emergency data of the body in the fusion network of WBAN and FANET and provide a data transfer model that can be transmitted most efficiently.
