  • In the integrated wired/wireless network which consists of the Internet and moving networks, multiple wireless links are used to connect a fixed host(FH) in the Internet to a mobile host(MH) in the moving network. For use in such an environment, we propose a scheme to overcome the TCP performance degradation due to the packet losses over the wireless links without losing the end-to-end TCP semantics. The proposed scheme in each mobile router(MR) allows to obtain the information regarding packet losses over the upstream wireless links based on the received packet sequence number and the ACK number. This information is delivered to the upstream router, which enables the upstream access router(AR) or MR to quickly retransmit the lost packets. The proposed scheme has the feature to quickly recover the packet losses incurred over the upstream wireless links and the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated through simulation. It is shown that the significant performance gain can be obtained using the proposed scheme compared with the snoop mechanism which maintains end-to-end TCP semantics and does not require any additional features at the source and/or destination nodes.

  • Recently, as the use of wireless communication devices has increased, the wireless network usage has increased, and a wired network and a wireless network have been mixed to form a network. Existing TCP algorithms are designed for wired networks. Therefore, in the modern network environment, packet loss can not be accurately distinguished and improper congestion control is performed, resulting in degradation of TCP performance. In this paper, we propose SLDA (Support Vector Machine based Loss Discrimination Algorithm) which can accurately classify the packet loss environment to improve TCP performance and evaluate its performance.

  • With the original Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) design, which is particularly targeted at the wired networks, a packet loss is assumed to be caused by the network congestion. In the wireless environment where the chances to lose packets due to transmission bit errors are not negligible, though, this assumption may result in unnecessary TCP performance degradation. In this paper, we propose three schemes that improve the ability to conceal the packet losses in the wireless network while limiting the degree of violating TCP end-to-end semantics to a temporary incidents. If there happens a packet loss at the wireless link and there is a chance that the loss is noticed by the sending TCP, the proposed schemes send an indirect acknowledgement. Each of the proposed schemes uses different criteria to decide whether there is a chance that the packet loss occurred in the wireless part is noticed by the sender. In order to limit the buffer overhead in the base, the indirect acknowledgements are issued only when the length of buffer is less than a certain threshold. We use simulation to compare the overhead and the performance of the proposed schemes, and to show that the proposed schemes improve the TCP performance compared to Snoop with a limited amount of buffer at the base station.

  • Recently, network component become to follow wireless and mobile network from wired network proposed that many TCP algorithm optimized in variety environment. When TCP was created, however as it was design based on wired link, wireless link made more transmission error than wired link. Transmission errors are more frequent and may be incorrectly regarded as indications of network congestion. In this paper, it conduct how effect congestion control algorithm in Mobile ad-hoc network and compare traffic of TCP-Tahoe, TCP-Reno, TCP-New-Reno and TCP-Vegas in Mobile ad-hoc environment.

  • In wired networks, packet losses mostly occur due to congestion. TCP reacts to the congestion by decreasing its congestion window, thus to reduce network utilization. In wireless networks, however, losses may occur due to the high bit-error rate of the transmission medium or due to fading and mobility. Nevertheless, TCP still reacts to packet losses according to its congestion control scheme, thus to reduce the network utilization unnecessarily. This reduction of network utilization causes the performance of TCP to decrease. In this paper, we predict packet loss by using RSS(Received Signal Strengths) on the wireless and suggest adding RSS flag bit in ACK packet of MH. By using RSS flag bit in ACK, the FH(Fixed Host) decides whether it adopt congestion control scheme or not for the maximum throughput. The result of the simulation by NS-2 shows that the proposed mechanism significantly increases sending amount and receiving amount by 40% at maximum.

  • Internet access from mobile phones over cellular networks suffer from severe bandwidth limitations and high bit error rates over wireless access links. Tailoring TCP connections to best fit the characteristics of this bottleneck link is thus very important for overall performance improvement. In this work, we propose a simple algorithm in deciding the optimal TCP segment size to maximize the utilization of the bottleneck wireless TCP connection for mobile contents server access, taking the dynamic TCP window variation into account. The proposed algorithm can be used when the product of the access rate and the propagation time is not large. With some numerical examples, it is shown that the optimal TCP segment size becomes a constant value when the TCP window size exceeds a threshold. One can set the maximum segment size of a wireless TCP connection to this optimal segment size for mobile contents server access for maximum efficiency on the expensive wireless link.

  • In this paper, the data service protocol which could support data service more efficiently between mobile host and fixed host in wire network is investigated. Wireless link has high bit error rate compared with wire link. Therefore, TCP performance for the data service is degraded in wire and wireless interworking environment. Thus, to reduce performance degradation. Interworking module withsimple protocol processing function is proposed. This, interworking module analyzes the hearder information of TCP fram. If received TCP freame is a duplicated frame, TCP frame is discared. Also, if interworking moudule receives retransmission request frame is a duplicated frame, TCP freme is discarded. Also, if interworking module receives retansmission request frame, interworking module performs retransmission procedure. According to simulation results, the proposed IWF shows better performance than traditional IWF in view of delay and throughput in the wire and wireless interworking environments.
