This study aimed to investigate the preferential brain activations involed in the set size during random number generation (RNG). The BNG condition gave more increased activations in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), inferior parietal lobule (IPL), and superior temporal gyrus (STG) than the simple counting condition, which was a control rendition. When the activations were compared by the small set size condition versus the large set size condition, broad areas covering tempore-occipital network, ACC, and postcentral gyrus were more highly activated in the small set size condition than in the large set size condition, while responses of areas including medial frontal gyrus, superior parietal lobule, and lingual gyrus were more increased in the large set size condition than in the small set size condition. The capacity hypothesis of working memory fails to explain the results. On the contrary, strategy selection hypothesis seems to explain the current observations properly.

This paper is about increasing transfer efficiency of wireless power transmission. The new method is proposed to detect the alignment of transmitter and receiver of wireless charger and so smart phone can display the position of wireless charging receiver on its LCD panel for the maximum charging efficiency. The previous method is only to show the transfer efficiency, but this method is to show not only the efficiency but also coordinates of receiver. The apparatus of the wireless charger is based on WPC(Wireless Power Consortium) standard and has planar air coil combined with magnet shield in Tx and Rx device so that the leakage flux is minimized on condition of under hundreds of kHz operating frequency. In this paper, it's showed that relation of magnet field and distance of each coils can be linearized and position information of Tx and Rx device is calculated thru trigonometry. Through the experiment, the obstacles of linearity are discovered and also showed that it can be optimized. and so the presented method is suitable for alignment detection method of Tx and Rx device in WPC wireless charger.
The positioning system based on wireless AP collects AP information distributed in the real world, stores it into database, and measures the position objects by comparing with searched AP information. The existing fingerprinting method is a probabilistic modeling method that acquires much of the data collected from one location upon database composition, and stores the average of the data for the sake of use it in positioning objects. Using the average value, however, may cause the probability of errors Such errors are fatal weaknesses for services based on the accurate position. This paper described the characteristics and problems of the previously used wireless AP positioning system, and proposed a method of using the AP DB and an MSS mechanism for outdoor positioning in order to solve the aforementioned problems. And the results obtained from experimental tests showed that the proposed method achieved very low error rate(27%) compared with the existing method.

The VLC system undertakes both missions of illumination and wireless communication. It is difficult to design a VLC system with optimal performance due to the trade-offs between power consumption and channel quality. In this paper, the VLC system design problem is solved by using multi-objective optimization method. For optimization, the multi-objective function is formulated with respect to power consumption, received power, and SNR under the constraints on the system variables. Through the multi-objective optimization, it is possible to obtain the solutions that satisfies both minimum power consumption and maximum channel quality.

Researches on indoor localization using the wireless sensor network have been actively carried out to be used for indoor area where GPS signal is not received. Computationally efficient WCL(Weighted Centroid Localization) algorithm is shown to perform relatively well. However, to get the best performance for WCL all the anchor nodes must send signal with power to cover 96% of the network. The fact that outside the transmission range of the fixed nodes drastic localization error occurs results in large mean error and deviation. Due to these problems the WCL algorithm is not easily applied for use in the real indoor environment. In this paper we propose SRS(Succesive Region Setting) algorithm which sequentially reduces the estimated location area using the signal strength from the anchor nodes. The proposed algorithm does not show significant performance degradation corresponding to transmission range of the anchor nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed SRS algorithm has mean localization error 5 times lower than that of the WCL under free space propagation environment.

In this paper, the electromagnetic immunity of electronic medical equipments was tested by employing a standard test method for medical equipments. In addition, the electromagnetic interference to the medical equipments caused by four different types of mobile phones such as portable transceiver, analog, digital, and PCS cellular phones, have been studied. In this study, 16 medical equipments of 11 different types were investigated. There are a patient monitor, an infusion pump, a neonatal incubator and so on. In the case of the EMS test, the interferences were detected for seven medical equipments of four different types(53.3%) such as the patient monitor. For the two portable transceivers, 12 medical equipments of eight different models (75%) were affected. All medical equipments were satisfied with electromagnetic immunity by analog, digital and PCS cellular phones. The experiment results show that the malfunction of the electronic medical equipments is dependent on the frequency range and the electric field strength of the mobile phones.

Wireless mesh network extends the limited coverage of conventional wireless service from one-hop access point to wider area. It is recognized as an important issue to provide seamless handoff in the wide coverage of wireless mesh network. A long handoff delay may cause high packet loss and disconnection of service, degrading the network performance. The handoff delay is mainly introduced from the channel scanning process obtaining information to make handoff decision and the unnecessary handoffs due to inaccurate handoff decision. In this paper, we propose the handoff algorithm based on one-way trip time (OTT) to expedite the handoff procedure. As compared to the handoff algorithm based on the receiving signal power, the proposed algorithm takes advantage of OTT to obtain the necessary handoff information in a relatively shorter time and reduce the unnecessary handoffs. The performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated through the simulations. It is verified that the proposed handoff algorithm can effectively enhance the handoff accuracy, and therefore reduce the handoff delay and unnecessary handoffs.

In this paper, we propose an efficient location tracking scheme using wireless signals for various situations in marine environment that requires location information for many reasons such as lifesaving, accident prevention, and facility management. Our proposed location tracking scheme not only monitors user's location, but also minimizes the risk under the user's limited battery power budget. The position of a user can be obtained at base stations from the strengths of the received signals from the user. In this case, it may require to prevent the user from getting out of the predetermined safe area. For each location in the safe area, we define a risk function, which is influenced by many factors such as location accuracy, depth, flow rate, and geometry. Our proposed scheme is based on finger printing technique and aims at minimizing the average risk of each user in the safe area.
We evaluate the degradation of receiver sensitivity induced by direct and indirect exposure to solar irradiance in free-space optical communication systems. For this purpose, we calculate the variances of numerous noise components arising from solar irradiance, and then estimate the receiver sensitivity penalties for intensity-modulation/direct-detection and coherent systems. The results show that the penalties are less than 1.3 dB when indirect sunlight impinges on the detector, regardless of the system. However, the sensitivity penalties are estimated to be larger than 30 dB when the sunlight is directly incident upon the receiver. These penalties are barely reduced if we insert an optical polarizer, or if we adjust the bandwidth of an optical filter at the receiver to be as narrow as the signal's bandwidth.

The number of industry wireless networks based on IEEE 802.11 WLAN technology deployed in large outdoor work sites, such as freight container terminal, is increasing these days. Wider service coverage, frequent movements of stations and high requirement on service reliability are main characteristics of these networks compared to the conventional IEEE 802.11 networks used in home, office and school. While the importance of these networks Bets higher, we can hardly find previous studies including concrete analysis on these networks based on actual experiments. We carried out several field experiments at a freight container terminal to analyze its IEEE 802.11 network and found out some problematic situations, such as over 50% retransmission rates and frequent disruption of communication link while a station is moving. We explain why these problematic situations happen and suggest some solutions, such as application of mesh technology, smart handoff based on location and movement pattern and adjustment of signal strength and channel allocation. Methods and tools used in the experiments are also detailed in the paper which may be helpful for similar future studies.
