Effect of Colloidal Silica on the Photochromic Properties of Hard Coating Films Prepared by Sol-Gel Method (Colloidal Silica가 Sol-Gel 하드 코팅 막의 광 변색 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid coating solutions were prepared starting from colloidal silica, lanthanum nitrate and ${\gamma}$-glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane by the sol-gel method. Also, spiropyran-doped hard coating solutions were prepared by mixing the spiropyran solution, obtained after dissolving spiropyran dye into tetrahydrofuran solvent, with the organic-inorgnic hybrid coating solutions. The spiropyran-doped hard coating solutions were applied as a thin layer to polycarbonate sheets, and their photochromic properties were investigated. The effect of amount of colloidal silica added into the coating solutions was investigated on the photochromic properties of coating films. Both decoloration rate and pencil hardness of the coating films were increased with increasing the amounts of colloidal silica.

Distribution and Cyclings of Nutrients in Phragmites communis Communities of a Coastal Salt Marsh (해안염습지 갈대 군락의 무기영양소 순환과 분배)

  • The aboveground production, nutrient distribution and nutrient cyclings were compared between two Phragmites communis communities growing in the different salt contents of soil in a coastal salt marsh. Inorganic nutrient contents of soil for plant growth were greater at the low salt stand than at the high salt stand except for sodium(Na). Maximum aboveground biomass of the plant at the low and the high salt stands were 2,533 and 1,719 g dw/$m^2$, respectively, in August. Seasonal changes of nutrient content of biomass in dry weight decreased with growth except for Na. Nutrient contents in biomass per unit land area increased continuously as biomass increases, although the amount of potassium(K) reached the maximum content in July and thereafter decreased. Vertical distributions of total nitrogen(T-N) and phosphorus(P) increased with plant height, but Na showed the reverse trend. That of K was similar to the patterns for T-N and P in the leaves, and to the pattern of Na in the stems. The Na was greatly accumulated in underground biomass but transported scarcely to aboveground. At the low and the high salt stands, the ratios of the inorganic nutrients contained in the plant were 100 : 66 for T-N, 100 : 61 for P, 100 : 62 for K and 100 : 97 for Na. the ratios of the amounts of nutrients retrieved to soil were 100 : 242 for T-N, 100 : 408 for P, 100 : 127 for K and 100 : 269 for Na, respectively. Turnover times of the T-N, P, K and Na in the communities were 56, 1, 15 and 174 years at the low salt stand, and 75, 2, 24 and 323 years at the high salt stand, respectively. In nutrient cyclings, all of the nutrients retrieving to soil were less than uptake by plant. Among the nutrient, especially P is expected to be exhausted from soil, sooner or later, because of the harvest by men.

  • In seawater deposition condition, the corrosion and chemical attack of grouts are similar to those of concrete structure. Used in domestic MSG (Micro Silica Grouting) mixtured large amounts of silicate materials containing as cement powder is $8,000cm^2/g$ of the specific surface area or more due to the high hydration activity and high-strength, high durability, and features, $C_3A$ content of less than 5% to meet the standards chemical attack of seawater was evaluated as a cement material. Therefore, in this paper, with excellent seawater attack resistant MSG in combination with rapid hardening mineral was used, those of seawater characteristics were evaluated experimentally. Typically, sodium-silicate minerals or rapid hardening cements are used in domestic. About the homogel specimens with combination of MSG and rapid hardening agents for compressive strength, weight and length change characteristics were evaluated experimentally, and so we could present the excellent seawater resistant grouts combination.

Optimal Nutritional Requirements of Carrot Hairy Roots (당근 모상근의 최적 영양 요구성)

  • The physiological characteristics of carrot hairy roots and suspension cells were examined based on their nutritional requirements. Inorganic nutrient (phosphorous and ammonium) requirements of carrot hairy roots were similar to those of suspension cells. Optimal sucrose concentration for the growth of hairy roods (7%) was different from that of suspension cells (3%). Since suspension cells were move easily affected by the environmental condition, e.g., osmotic stress, than hairy roofs which made the suitable growth condition for cells, it can be understood that optimal sucrose concentration for the growth of hairy roots was higher than that for the growth of the suspension cells. To investigate the roles of sucrose on the growth of hairy roots, the effects of sucrose on the fresh weight and dry weight was analysed by the addition of mannitol as an osmolicum. Sucrose acts also as an energy source for hairy roots rather than as an osmotic regulator, since the increase of dry weight was higher than that of fresh weight at the given sucrose concentration.

The Optimal Culture Condition for the Collagenolytic Protease Production from Vibrio vulnificus CYK279H (Vibrio vulnificus CYK 279H에서 Collagenolytic Protease 생산을 위한 최적배양조건)

  • A marine bacterium for producing an collagenolytic protease was isolated from the southern sea of Korea and identified as Vibrio vulnificus and named as Vibrio vulnificus CYK279H. This strain producing an collagenolytic protease was showed high activity toward collagen and gelatin as substrate. The optimum initial pH, NaCl, and temperature for cell growth and protease production was 7.5, 2.0% and 25$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Optimization for collagenolytic protease production was composed of 0.3% D-galactose, 0.6% yeast extract, 4.0% gelatin, 0.2% (NH$_4$)$_2$SO$_4$, and 0.2 mM ferric citrate in artificial sea water. The maximum protease production was required gelatin and yeast extract. The collagenolytic protease production by Vibrio vulnificus CYK279H reached a maximum of 73 unit/l after the cultivation for 18 h under the optimized medium.

  • Hydrofluoric acid (HF), a typical inorganic acid, has been used in the industry for its various usage and classified as the toxic compound, because it can cause the pneumonia and pulmonary edema when it was exposed to respiratory organs. The official environmental analytical method for fluorine and its compound in waste has not been developed. For this reason, we have faced some problem to treat the contaminated wastes by the HF leakage from industrial process. In this study, prepared for analytical method for combustible waste (crop, trees, etc.) generated from HF leaking accident and to be applied as the official analytical method for fluorine contaminated waste when the fluorine and its compound will be regulated as a hazardous material by the waste management law later.

  • 대부분의 국내 다목적 댐은 유역면적이 넓고 강우기 집중강우로 인하여 유입되는 입자성 물질이 상당히 많은 편이며, 영양염의 증가로 인하여 저수지내부에서 발생되는 입자성 물질도 많다. 이로 인하여 호소에는 외부에서 유입된 무기$\cdot$유기성 입자와 내부 생성된 유기성 물질들이 장기간 축적되어 저수지 용량이 줄어든다. 본 연구에서는 저수지 퇴적물 상태를 탐사하는 효율적인 조사기법을 제시하고자 한다. 퇴적물 탐사기법에는 탄성파탐사 등을 이용하는 간접적인 방법과 코아를 이용하는 직접적인 방법, 퇴적층 동위원소 분석 기법 등이 있으며, 이러한 기법에 대한 기본원리 및 특성, 효용성 등을 평가하고 현장에 적합한 방법을 실제 적용하였다. 퇴적물 분포를 조사하기 위하여 먼저 다중빔(MBES)을 이용한 정밀 지형조사를 실시하였으며 이를 통하여 호저지형의 특징을 간접적으로 평가할 수 있었다. 직접적인 조사방법으로 gravity corer를 사용하여 몇 개의 지점을 sampling하였으며, 잠수부가 직접 핸드코아링를 실시하여 퇴적층을 측정하였다. 16지점에서 실시한Gravity core 결과 세 곳의 조사 정점에서 최대 70cm 두께의 퇴적층이 중력식 시추기에 의해 획득되었으며 다른 정점에서는 50cm, 20cm가 시추되었고 그 나머지 지점에서는 퇴적물이 채취되지 않았다. 이는 퇴적층이 얇아 코아가 쓰러지거나 시료채취가 되지 않은 것으로 판단되었다. 잠수부가 hand corer를 이용한 시료 채취시에 채취된 시료의 퇴적층은 각 지점별로 덕치리 25cm, 경계지점 25cm, 우산리 지점 45cm로 조사되었다. 납-210(반감기 22.3년)을 이용하여 최근에 형성된 주암댐 호수저 퇴적물 중 퇴적작용 이후 교란을 받지 않은 지역의 시추 시료를 대상으로 퇴적속도를 구하였다. 주암호에서 취한 코아퇴적물 시료는 현장에서 냉동하여 실험실에서 약 2cm 간격으로 절단하여 절단체 별로 동위원소 분석을 실시하였다. $^{210}Pb$의 농도는 grand-daughter인 $^{210}Po$를 측정함 후 감마분석에 의하여 구하였다. CF:CS 연령모델을 적용한 결과 깊이에 따른 supported $^{210}Pb$와 퇴적 속도는 0.91cm/year 인 것으로 산정 되었다.

  • In this research, a new expectation in enhancing the PES (polyethersulfone) polymer phase inversion membrane performances with nanoparticles is proposed by using ZnO. This paper investigated the synthesis of PES phase inversion membranes including ZnO nanoparticles and evaluates the performance of these mixed matrix membranes. The PES-ZnO mixed matrix membranes were fabricated by phase inversion method using the PES-ZnO-NMP(N-methyl-1-pyrrolidone) casting solutions with low ZnO nanoparticles content of 0.375 wt%. The influence of ZnO nanoparticles on the characteristics of PES-ZnO mixed matrix membranes was investigated with scanning electron microscope observations of membrane cross-sections, contact angle measurements, tensile strength measurements, pure water flux measurements and ultrafiltration experiments of BSA solution. Those results showed that the performance advancements in comparison with the pure PES membrane without ZnO in terms of increasing hydrophilicity as well as reducing membrane fouling by adding ZnO nanoparticles even in low concentration.

Antimicrobial Activity of Culture Filtrates from Pseudomonas aeruginosa KLP-2 Isolated from Cooling Tower-Water against Legionella pneumophila (냉각탑수에서 분리한 Pseudomonas aeruginosa KLP-2 배양여액의 Legionella Pneumophila에 대한 항균활성)

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa KLP-2 possessing antimicro- bial activity against Legionella pneumophila was isolated from cooling tower-waters. The culture filtrates of P. aeruginosa KLP-2 showed antimicrobial activity against L. pneumophila Vibro cholerae non-Ol. Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis and staphylococcus aureus. The culture filtrates of P. aeruginosa KLP-2 showed the highest anti-microbial activity against. L pneumophila among micoorganisms tested in this study. The optimal conditions of temperature, pH carbon source and nitogen source to obtain maximal antimicrobial activity from culture filtrates of P. aeruginosa KLP-2 were determined to be 35$^{\circ}C$ pH 7.0 % of glycerol and 0.6% of proteose peptone respec- tively. The antimicrobial activity of culture filtrates from P. seruginosa KLP-2 was highest against L. pneumophila when cultivated with shaking for 24 h and without shaking for 4 day at 35$^{\circ}C$.

  • Effects of aybusculayr mycorrhizal fungus (aMF), Glomus manihot, on plant growth and nutrient uptake on pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) seedlings were evaluated in the nursery experiment. Five different strains of pepper, Chungok, Shingang, Manitta, Gonggongchil, and Shintaeyang, were used in this study. Total fresh weight, nutrient (nitrogen, phosphate and potassium) uptake were increased in all strains inoculated with G. manihot alone and G. manihot and rock phosphate over control at 2 weeks after seeding. Plant weight and phosphate uptake in plants treated with AMF were significantly higher (P< 0.05) than those of control at 6 weeks after seeding. The treatment with G. manihot and rock phosphate gave better plant performance than the treatment with G. manihot alone at 6 weeks after seeding. The lengths of pathogenic symptom on pepper by Phytophthora capsici were reduced significantly by the inoculation of G. manihot spores, Therefore, it would be expected that AMF can be used as the biocontrol agent on pathogens in pepper.
