This experiment was conducted to determine the mineral absorption character and develop the optimum composition of nutrient solution for dill(Anethum graveolens L.) in hydroponics. Dill(Anethum graveolens L.) plants were grown in nutrient film technique(NFT) supplied with 1/4, 1/2, and 1 strength of the nutrient solution developed by National Research Station in Japan(HRS). Plants grown in 1/2 strength showed the best growth in plant height, fresh weight, and dry weight compared with those grown in 1/4 or 1 strength. In 1/2 strength solution, pH and EC changed little and proper nutrient contents were observed in the leaves as compared to plant nutrient diagnosis standard. Based on these results, optimum macronutrients were composed by nutrient- water absorption rate(n/w) with 1/2 strength: NO$_2$―N 8.85, NH$_4$―N 0.55, P 2.1, K 6.2, Ca 2.8, and Mg 1.7 me L$^{-1}$ To examine the suitability of the nutrient solution developed(SCU) , dill plants were grown in NFT supplied with two different kinds of solution and concentration. 1/2, 1, 3/2 and 25 of SCU and 1/2S of HRS. Changes of pH and EC were not distinct in 1S, but a significant change of pH was shown in low concentrations-HRS 1/2S and SCU 1/2S. Shoot fresh and dry weight were much higher in the plants grown in SCU IS as compared with HRS 1/2S. There were no significant differences in growth of plants grown in SCU IS, 3/2S, and 25. In addition, nutrient contents in the leaves grown by SCU 1S were in proper levels as compared with plant nutrient diagnosis standard. SCU 1S developed in this experiment was found to be optimum for dill in hydroponics.
Dry weight, and mineral content in leaves, stems, and roots of the ginseng plant (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) were investigated. The highest T/R ratio, 0.52, was observed in a four year old plant due to a vigorous growth of the plant at this age. Also the dry weight increase was rather higher in the younger root than the older one. Mineral content of the plant was rather higher in the younger root than the older one. Potassium content in leaves and stems was higher than those of nitrogen and phosphorus. Generally, the leaves contained more iron and manganese than any other micronutrients. The iron content amounted to $1,000{\sim}2,000ppm$ in leaves. Zinc content was higher in stems and leaves than roots especially in stems of the younger roots. Total amount of the up-taken N, $P_2O_5$, and $K_2O$ per 10a in six years was 10.2kg, 2.3kg and 14.9kg respectively, indicating the considerable abounts of $K_2O$ was absorbed.
To study the effect of cold water irrigation at the reproductive growth stage of rice plants on several growth characters related to source and sink and nutrient uptake, the present experiment was carried out under the different conditions of water temperature and water depth. Deep irrigation with normal temperature water increased culm length, panicle length and panicle exsertion but with cold water resulted adversely. Most sensi-tive response in 5 cm water-depth appeared at reduction division stage and in 20 cm depth at panicle formation stage. Secondary branches and spikelets were increased in number by deep irrigation with normal temperature water, but decreased and degenerated by deep irrigation with cold water at panicle formation stage resulting in high spikelet sterility and low grain filling. Deep irrigation with normal temperature water increased the contents of total nitrogen, phosphate, potassium and silicate in leaf blades, branches and chaff. However, cold water irrigation reduced the uptake of phosphate, potassium and silicate except nitrogen particularly in deep irrigation. Ratios of phosphate, potassium and silicate to total nitrogen content were decreased by cold water irrigation. Branches seemed to have higher requirements for phosphate, potassium and silicate than leaf blades and chaff. Silicate-to-total nitrogen ratio in leaf blades, branches and chaff had significant correlations with yield showing closer relationship between yield and the ratio of silicate to total nitrogen in branches in particu-lar.
This study was carried out to examine the mycorrhizal development, growth, and nutrient uptake of Quercus serrate seedlings while they were grown for 120 days in a pot medium with and without Pisolithus tinctorius, and also with applications of nitrogen levels. The results were summarized as follows : 1) Inoculated seedlings showed ectomycorrhizal formation of 61. 75%. 2) In the root development, the best nitrogen level was $300{\mu}g/ml$ for inoculated seedlings, and the number of short roots, the number of primary lateral roots and total length of lateral roots were 34.3, 30.7, and 17.2% greater, respectively, than noninoculated seedlings. 3) Growth of shoot, leaf area, total dry weight, and volume of inoculated seedlings were increased 26.9, 52.3, 31.7, and 85.7% greater respectively, than noninoculated seedlings. 4) Inoculated seedlings were more enhanced in the uptake of N, P, K, and Ca than noninoculated seedlings, and the enhanced uptake was best shown at $300{\mu}g$ N/ml treatment.
This experiment was conducted to study about influenced inorganic element contents of flag leaf and chaff with different nitrogen and silicate application in Jinan (sea level 303m). The recommended rate of fertilizer application above N 15kg/10a was poor for dry production increment in cold in July elevation and was demanded increment of silicate. In the elevation of cold in July high rates of nitrogen application produced more incomplete grain and a reduced cold tolerance. These effects were due to over-content of soluble nitrogen within flag leaf and disturbance of uptaking potassium and silicate. On the other hand, the application of silicate could increase yield by promoting resistance to cold- damage. The application of increasing level of nitrogen resulted in increasing the contents of total nitrogen and phosphate in both sterile and fertile glumes. The contents of potassium and calcium were the highest at the level of nitrogen 10 - 15kg/10a, but magnessium was rather high at low nitrogen levels. It is interesting that at any level of nitrogen, over 6% higher silicate contents were noted in the fertile chaff than in the sterile chaff. Application of increasing level of silicate fertilizer decreased total nitrogen contents, but increased the contents of phosphate, potassium. and silicate in the chaff. Increasing rate of silicate content by increasing silicate addition was remarkably higher in the fertile chaff than in the sterile chaff.
This experiment was done to evaluate the effects of green manure cropping in green house soil on the changes of soil nutrients and soil microorganisms. The biomass of green manure crop was the highest in ryegrass and nitrogen absorption was the highest in hairy vetch. After cropping, soil phosphate content was the lowest in ryegrass, however, biomass C was the highest of all the green manures. Nitrogen uptake of plant and nitrogen content of the soil after the experiment showed a negative correlation. Total N content of soil was increased in hairy vetch plot, but decreasing tendency showed in the ryegrass and common crabgrass plots. In this results are summarized that green manure cropping greatly reduced salt accumulation in green house.

This pot experiment was conducted to find out the forage productivity and contents of mineral nutrients in an orchardgrass sward affected by the compost lime, and phosphorus applications on the newly reclaimed and arable pasture soils. This 2nd part was concerned with the effect of lime application(L$_{0}$=control, L$_1$=279, L$_2$=54g CaCO$_3$/pot). The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. There were considerable differences between the newly reclaimed and arable pasture soils in the soil chemical properties as follows in general; poor/common in the newly reclaimed soil longrightarrow and common/good in the arable pasture soil in terms of soil fertility standard. 2. It was recognized that the lime application was resulted in somewhat decrease of the concentrations of available P$_2$O$_{5}$ and increase of P$_2$O$_{5}$ absorbtion coefficient in the newly reclaimed soil, whereas these negative effects were positively enhanced by both lime and compost applications. The concentrations of exchangeable Ca and mg in both soils were increased by lime application. 3. The vigour at early growth stage of orchardgrass was better in the arable pasture soil than newly reclaimed soil. It was worsened by the heavy lime application(L$_2$), but this negative effect was positively enhanced by both lime and compost application. 4. Compared with the non-lime application, the forage yields of L$_1$ treatment were increased in both soils by 15~18%. whereas it of L$_2$ treatment was similar or lower than it of L$_1$. 5. The concentrations of Ca, mg, and P in orchardgrass were relatively higher in the arable pasture soil than the newly reclaimed soil, whereas there it was no difference in the K concentration. It was recognized that the concentrations of mg and Ca in orchardgrass were higher in the L$_1$ treatment than the Lo treatment in both soils, whereas there were no difference in it between L$_1$ and L$_2$ treatments.ments.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of organic agricultural materials, chitosan and wood vinegar, on the growth and yield of red pepper and soil microflora. In the chitosan treatments, the density of actinomycetes in soils increased, while the density of fungi decreased. Compared with the conventional cultivation, the stem diameter of red pepper was greater in the chitosan or wood vinegar experimental plots at 50 days after transplanting, though there was no difference in chlorophyll content among treatments. The incidence of disease and insect was higher in the treatments of organic agricultural materials than the conventional cultivation, regardless of application frequency. Contents of cations such as Ca and K in leaves and fruits increased by chitosan treatment. In all experimental plots, fruit yield decreased because of diseases and insects. But in chitosan treatment plot with 10 times of application, characteristics of fruits were superior to others and the yield index of red pepper was the highest as 92.4% as compared to the conventional cultivation.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of light intensity and electrical conductivity (EC) of nutrient solution during short day treatment in an ebb and flow systems on the growth and nutrient uptake of potted Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Rako' and the nutrient accumulation of growing medium. Nutrient concentrations in the growing medium were also analyzed to investigate the accumulation rates of macro-nutrients such as T-N, P, K, Ca, and Mg, respectively. To achieve the objectives, plants were fed with a nutrient solution with 1.2, 1.8, or $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ under three daily photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) of 4.26, 5.51, or $9.75mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$. Both light intensity and EC of nutrient solution significantly influenced the crop growth. The elevation of PPFs resulted in the increase of plant growth. For each light condition, plant growth, such as dry and fresh weight and leaf area, was the highest when the electrical conductivity of nutrient solution was controlled to $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. However, growth was acceptable in the EC ranges from 1.8 to $2.4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. Both light intensity and EC of nutrient solution significantly influenced the uptake of nutrients in the solution tanks and the accumulation of nutrients in the growing medium. As the EC of nutrient solution was elevated, the absorption rates of $NO_3^-$, $PO_4^{-3}$, $K^+$, and $Mg^{2+}$ by crops and accumulation of those in growing medium increased, but the light intensity did not significantly influence the absorption rates. Based on the above results, the regression models were suggested for anticipating the macro-nutrient accumulations in growing medium.
Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum M. cv. ‘Momotarou’) and hot pepper seedlings (Capsicum annuum L. cv. 'Nockkwang')were grown under the 24h photopeliod (12 hrs light period: 12 hrs dark period) and 6 h photoperiod (3 hrs light period: 3hrs dark period). As a result of this experiment, the following details were observed. Plant height, leaf area, total dry weight, and leaf chlorophyll content decreased in case of tomato seedlings when they were given 6 h photoperiod. But the same effect was not observed in case of hot pepper seedlings. The photoperiod, however, did not produce any significant effect on the uptake of N, P, K, Mg and Ca ions in their nutrient solutions with the exception of their Fe. On thc 10th day of treatment, leaf chlorosis started to become visible in tomato seedlings and at the same time the uptake of Fe went down when the 6h photoperiod was applied to both tomato and hot pepper scedlings. In addition to this phenomenon, the sucrose content in leaf increased in case of tomato plants which were treated with 6 h photoperiod; on the other hand, their glucose content was observed to have decreased.
