The use of resin composites has continued to increase over the last several years. In spite of their growing popularity, composites continue to exhibit a number of undesirable characteristics. One of the major deficiencies of composite restorative resins is their inadequate resistance to wear. Of the multitude of factors that have been associated with wear, subsurface degradation within the restoration is considered to be one. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of four commercial composite resins in an alkaline solution. This solution with a high concentration of hydroxyl ions is a convenient medium for accelerated degradation of silane coupling and filler particles. The brands studies were Definite($Degussa-H\ddot{u}ls$ AG, Germany), Prodigy(Kerr, USA), Pyramid(Bisco, USA) and Synergy(Coltene, Swiss). Preweighed discs of each brand were exposed to 0.1N NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$. After 14 days they were removed, neutralized with HCl, washed with water and dried. Resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of following parameters : (a) mass loss(%)-determined from pre-and post-exposed specimen weights : (b) Si loss(ppm)-obtained from ICP-AE analysis of solution exposed to specimens; and (c) degradation $depth({\mu}m)$-measured microscopically (SEM) from polished circular sections of exposed specimens. The results were follows: 1. Mass loss of Synergy was $1.24{\pm}0.002%$, it was the highest, there was no significant difference among the materials. 2. The degree of degradation layer depth of Synergy was $107.83{\pm}2.52{\mu}m$, it was the highest, there was no significant difference among any other materials than Synergy. 3. There was no difference among the four materials in Si loss. 4. The correlation coefficient between mass loss and degradation depth was relatively high(r=0.06, p<0.05). 5. There was no coefficient correlation between Si loss and mass loss, the degree of degradation layer depth and Si loss. 6. When observed with SEM, destruction of bonding is observed between resin matrix and filler.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality characteristics of functional cookies made with potato peels (cortex layer) containing high amounts of glycoalkaloid. Cookies were processed by mixing ratios of 10, 15 and $20\%$ potato peel relatively to flour. The spread ratio of the cookies was increased with increasing potato peel addition. Texture measurement for the cookies on substituting $10\%$ of flour for potato peel showed a decreased hardness, but the cohesiveness and springiness were increased compared to the control and other ratios. The glycoalkaloid contents of the cookies on substituting 10, 15 and $20\%$ of the flour forpotato peel were 6.27, 9.40 and 12.54mg, respectively, which according to the USAD guidelines are safe amounts for the human body, and also enough for making functional cookies. In the sensory evaluations, the cookies with $10\%$ of the flour substituted for potato peel had the highest scores in flavor, taste, appearance and texture.
Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is a plasticizer known as one of endocrine disruptors. The present study was carried out to investigate the alterations of function and ultrastructure in rat testes after oral intubation of DEHP in dosages of 1g/kg/day, 2 g/kg/day or 3 g/kg/day in 0.5 ml of corn oil for 15 days. DEHP reduced the growth of body and testes, inhibited apermatogenesis and induced structural changes on various cell types of the rat testis. Leydig cells, Sertoli cells and the developing germ cells seemed to be impaired their differentiations in terms of the structural changes of cell organelles. The increase of heterochromatin in amount were common features in all 3 cell types. In addition, the Leydig cells were characterized by the swelling of smooth endoplasmic reticulum and perinuclear space, the increases in number and size of Iysosomes. The Sertoli cells became irregular in nuclear envelope and the number of Iysosomes and vacuoles seemed to be increased. There were some indications of necrosis of the germ cells, such as vacuolized nucleus and segregated nucleolus. And also, DEHP lowered the level of testosterone in experimental rat serum. DEHP suppressed apermatogenesis decreasing developing germ cells and these effects of DEHP on the rat testis were dose dependent. The detrimental effect of DEHP on apermatogenesis and ultrastructure of rat testes seems to be derived from the decreased level of testosterone by Leydig cells, followed by the abnomalities of Sertoli cells and the germ cells.
The purpose of this study was to find the optimal swelling method and condition for seacucumber to improve its taste and texture to accomodate the rapid increase of consumption. Another purpose was to try to determine an easy way to soak dried sea-cucumber under different conditions, and identify the influence of swelling time on the texture of sea-cucumber, in order to reduce preparation time and provide basic data for easy handling. After boiling or steaming for six different periods including 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes the texture of the sea-cucumbers were compared, For the additive test, the sea-cucumbers were boiling for 30 minutes period with 4 different additives and the textures were compared, Since the texture is an important characteristic of sea-cucumber, there are many variables that affect this property including the, drying and preservation methods. This study provides basic understanding of the influence of the heating method, time and temperature on the swelling of sea-cucumber for handy use at processing sites.
Manganese nodules have been found in the shallow water depth of the Arctic Ocean as well as in the abyssal plains of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, but detailed study for them were rarely investigated. Manganese nodules, collected from the East Siberian Sea through the Arctic Expedition using Araon ice braking vessel, have a high potential for Mn mineral resources because they have high Mn content with high Mn/Fe ratio. This study investigated the external form, size and weight, internal texture for the non-spherical manganese nodule, which has about 7 % of total nodule from the East Siberian Sea. This study also researched the relative Mn-oxide mineral composition using the peak area ratio of X-ray diffraction pattern and their chemical composition. All data obtained from non-spherical nodules were compared with the spherical ones. Ellipsoidal, platy and irregular types are common among 5 groups of non-spherical manganese nodule based on the external form, and major axis and weight have positive relationship. All non-spherical manganese nodules have core mainly composed of mud sediments. The average Mn oxide mineral contents in nodules are birnessite, buserite and todorokite in descending order. Although mineral composition does not show any correlation with the external form, kind of core or internal structure, todorokite and buserite contents tend to increase and birnessite content decrease from the surface to the core in the nodule. Non-spherical manganese nodules have higher Mn content and Mn/Fe ratio than those from the shallow water depth of the Arctic Sea and even in the deep-sea of the Pacific and Indian Ocean. Although non-spherical nodule is larger and heavier, and has lower Mn content and Mn/Fe ratio than spherical nodule, there are not any differences in mineral composition and internal structure between them. Almost all manganese nodules collected from the East Siberian Sea are attributed to diagenetic process, because they are higher than 5 in Mn/Fe ratio.

This study was performed to investigate anti-oxidant of red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract, main ingredient of mara source. Anti-obesity effects of red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract were investigated with mice fed high fat diet for 8 weeks. Sixty mice were classified to 6 groups of ND (normal diet), HFD (high fat diet), RP (high fat diet+red pepper (0.1 g/60 kg)), CP (high fat diet+Chinese pepper (0.1 g/60 kg)), RCP (high fat diet+red pepper : Chinese pepper=1:1 (0.1 g/60 kg)), HCA (high fat diet+HCA (0.1 g/60 kg)) experiments. This research showed that final weight, weight gain, food efficiency ratio, and river weight were decreased by the addition of red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract comparing to those of HFD group. The plasma triglyceride and LDL cholesterol concentration of red pepper ethanol extract and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract group was lower than that of high fat diet group. HDL-cholesterol concentration of red pepper ethanol extract and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract group was higher than those of high fat diet group. These results suggested that red pepper and Zanthoxylum schinifolium ethanol extract might be useful for obesity control and good source of functional materials.

In this study, optimum extraction conditions for phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge ash(SSA) were investigated. For this purpose, an experiment was conducted to determine optimal recovery conditions for Ca-P type phosphorus by using calcium component in the recycled aggregate residue. The phosphorus content of sewage sludge ash was confirmed to be 5.0 %. When $H_2SO_4$ was used as an extract, concentration of 1 N $H_2SO_4$, L/S ratio of 10, and extraction time of 30 min were found to be the optimal extraction conditions. Phosphorus was extracted by using optimal extraction conditions, and then the heavy metals eluted with phosphorus were removed using 1~20 g of cation exchange resin. In 20 g of cation exchange resin, Fe 71.3%, Cu 82.4%, Zn 79.9%, and Cr 15% were removed. After that, the mixing ratio of the calcium extract obtained from the recycled aggregate residue (RAR) was changed to 1:1, 1:5, 1:10. The pH of the SSA to RAR mixture was adjusted to 2, 4, 8 and 12 by the addition of 5 N NaOH to the mixture of 1:5, and the phosphorus was recovered as Ca-P type precipitate. The optimum pH was 8. When recycled aggregate residues were used, the weight of calcium phosphate increased, but the amount of wastewater generated also increased. Therefore, it was concluded that the use of recycled aggregate residue was not economically feasible.
In this study, we tried to obtain the optimal conditions to reduce odors generated from pig wastewater using magnesia (MgO) through in-situ test after producing a reactor for removing odors. For this purpose, the filling amount of magnesia, the injection amount of pig wastewater, the aeration method, the aeration amount and the aeration time were considered. The field experiment was conducted at Cheongwoon Livestock Farm, which has a pig wastewater reservoir. As the amount of magnesia added to the weight of wastewater (500 kg) increases, the amount of ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) generated tended to gradually decrease. As a result of the test, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in the pig wastewater decreased up to 65% and 77%, respectively, for 2 days aeration after 0.8% of magnesia was added to the reaction tank. The initial pH of the pig wastewater in the reactor was 8.2, and the pH was found to be 9.2 when magnesia was added up to 0.8%. In the light of this trend, it can be known that magnesia gradually increases the pH in the pig wastewater and makes it weakly alkaline. As the pH increases, part of the ammonia gas present in the pig wastewater vaporizes into the air and the remaining part is removed by precipitation after chemical bonding with dissolved magnesium ions and phosphate ions. In order to remove the odor of pig wastewater and turn it into compost, most of the existing livestock farms go through a six-month aeration process using microorganisms. In contrast, the current study proved the effect of removing odors from pig wastewater within 2 days through chemical reactions that do not affect microbial activity.

Standard Zircaloy-4 sheets, charged with 230-250ppm hydrogen by the gas-charging method and homogenized at $400^{\circ}C$ for 72hrs in a vacuum, were corroded in pure water and aqueous LiOH solutions using static autoclaves at $350^{\circ}C$. Their corrosion behaviors were characterized by measuring their weight gains with the corrosion time and observing their microstructures using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The elemental depth profiles for hydrogen and lithium were measured using a secondary ion mass spectrometry(S1MS) to confirm their distributions at the oxidelmetal interface. The normal Zircaloy-4 specimens corroded abruptly and heavily at the concentration of Li ions more than 30ppm in the aqueous solution. This is due to accelerations by the rapid oxidation of many Zr- hydrides formed by the large amount of absorbed hydrogen, resulting from the increased substitution of $Li^{+}$ ions with $Zr^{4+}$-sites in the oxide as the Li ion concentration increased. The specimens that had been charged with amounts of hydrogen greater than its solubility corroded early with a more rapid acceleration than normal specimens, regardless of the corrosion solutions. At longer corrosion times. however, normal specimens showed a rather accelerated corrosion rate compared to the hydrogen-charged specimens. These slower corrosion rates of the hydrogen-charged specimens at the longer corrosion times would be due to the pre-existent Zr-hydride in the matrix, which causes the hydrogen pick- up into the specimen to be depressed, when the oxide with an appropriate thickness formed.
The study was performed to investigate the degrees of gelatinization at various processing steps during the preparation of Dangmyuns using sweet potato, potato, corn and tapioca starches, and also determined the rehydration of the freeze dried sweet potato Dangmyun. The degrees of gelatinization after extrusion cooking showed higher value than other processing steps. The degrees of gelatinization after extrusion cooking were 63.5% in sweet potato, 80.0% in potato, 82.3% in corn, and 86.5% in tapioca Dangmyuns. The degree of gelatinization in Dangmyuns after extrusion cooking step decreased as the processing steps, such as cold storage, freezing, thawing, and sun drying, progressed. L values of color in Dangmyuns decreased in the order of corn>tapioca>potato>sweet potato Dangmyuns. The cooking loss decreased in the order of tapioca>corn>potato>sweet potato Dangmyuns. The percentage of weight gain was the highest in sweet potato Dangmyun followed by corn, potato, and tapioca Dangmyuns. The water absorption rate constant was the highest in sweet potato Dangmyun followed by corn, potato, and tapioca Dangmyuns. In the rehydration of freeze dried Dangmyuns, freeze dried sweet potato Dangmyun showed better than the others. An increase from 60% to 70% of the added amount of water in the mixing step resulted in an increase of the degrees of gelatinization after extrusion cooking from $63.4{\sim}70.7%$ to $73.8{\sim}75.0%$. An increase of the added water in the mixing step and a decrease of diameter in the extrusion cooking step slightly improved the rehydration in the boiled water of freeze dried sweet potato Dangmyun.
