  • The feasibility of substituting a composite mold for an aluminum mold in the fabrication of a small ship propeller was investigated. A small three-blade aluminum propeller was used as a plug for manufacturing the composite mold. A GRPG composite mold and propeller were made from an unsaturated polyester resin, Epovia gelcoat, and woven and mat glass fibers using the compression and vacuum method at room temperature. The hardness and surface roughness and the strength and deformation of the compression and suction molds were experimentally determined. The results were compared with the ISO 484/2 standard and some aluminum alloy materials. The results showed that the deformation of the mold satisfied the tolerance of the thickness of the blade. Some characteristics of the GRPG composite mold were better than those of the aluminum alloy mold (surface smoothness, weight, performance, and cost), and some characteristics were similar (detachment ability and life-cycle). Therefore, the composite mold is considered suitable for the fabrication of a small composite ship propeller.

  • The carbon fiber reinforced plastic manufacturing process has a problem in that a dimensional error occurs due to thermal deformation such as residual stress, spring-in, and warpage. The main causes of thermal deformation are various, including the shape of the product, the chemical shrinkage, thermal expansion of the resin, and the mold effect according to the material and surface condition of the mold. In this study, a viscoelastic model was applied to the plate model to predict the thermal deformation. The effects of chemical shrinkage and thermal expansion of the resin, which are the main causes of thermal deformation, were analyzed, and the analysis technique of the 3-D viscoelastic model with and without mold was also studied. Then, the L-shaped mold effect was analyzed using the verified 3D viscoelastic model analysis technique. The results show that different residual deformation occurs depending on the surface condition even when the same mold is used.

  • The efect of A1 addition and sintering condition on mutization behavior between alumina and silica in alumina-based shell mold was investigated. A1 addition and high sintering temperature increased the degree of mullitization between alumina/silica but decreased the room temperature strentgh of the shell molds. It was identified that the sintered strength of the shell molds was in range of 2.0~2.6kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$. Al addition suppressed deflection of the shell molds at high temperature. Especially, no deflection was observed in the specimen which was sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1hr with 2.5wt% Al. The specimen sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs with no Al addition also displayed no deflection.

  • Effect of sintering condition in mechanical properties of ZrSiO\ulcorner shell molds was investigated. Number of microcrack in primary layer of the mold was maximized after preheating at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1.5 hours. Yield strength and specific surface area of the mold were inversely proportion to sintering temperature and time. After hot deformation test at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours, molds were deformed opposite to the loading direction and backup layers were cracked along the interface between stucco and zircon slurry. Reverse deformation of the molds during hot deformation test was considered to be resulted from the difference of thermal expansion coefficient between alumina stucco and zircon slurry in primary coat, and size difference between zircon stucco and zircon slurry in backup coat.

  • The urethane based on prototype mold is very useful for making prototype. Especially, the method of stereolithography mold was turned out to be rapid and accurate 3-dimensional modeling data. Urethane resin (TSR-755) has heat resistant and is good for make hundreds of prototypes. In this study, we compared with various designed cooling channel and analyzed of cooling effect and deformation using commercial code Simpoe-Mold for injection mold. As a result, efficiently arranged cooling channel could make 19% of shrinkage to reduce and 46% cooling time to reduce.

  • Deformation of a mold is measured and analyzed in alignment and curing processes of UV-Imprint Lithography. We are focused on mold deformation caused by a UV resin, which is laminated between a mold and a target glass-panel. The UV resin is viscous in case of liquid state, and the resin will be solidified when being exposed by the ultra-violet light. The viscosity of the resin causes shear force on the mold during the alignment process. Moreover, the shrinkage during phase change from liquid to solid may cause residual stress on the mold. The experiments for measuring temperature and strain are made during alignment and curing process. Strain-gages and thermocouples are used for measuring the strain and variation of temperature on several points of the mold, respectively. The deformation of mold is also simulated and analyzed. The simulation results are compared with the experiments. Finally, sources of alignment errors in large area UV-nanoimprint lithography are discussed.

  • Fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) is applied to fabricate the main structures of composite boats. Most of them are made from molds. These products deform after releasing from the mold and they also deform in high temperature environment. Therefore, experimental investigation and evaluation of deformation of laminated composite structures under various manufacturing and working conditions are necessary. The specimens of L-shape and curveshape were made from unsaturated polyester resin and fiberglass material. Input factors (independent variables) are percentage of hardener and manufacturing temperature and four levels of working temperature and output factor is the deformation which is measured on these specimens. From the results, it was observed that the higher the hardener rate and temperature, the lower the deformation. When the working temperature increased, the specimens showed great variations for the initial deformation values. Besides, the values of deformation or input factors could be predicted by regression equations.

  • This paper describes the FFT and coefficient analysis of vibration signals for preventive diagnosis of a mold transformer at normal and abnormal state. Varying applied voltage, loading current and temperature as control variables for he experiment, measurement variables such as magnitude of vibration signals, frequency spectrum and time series coefficient were analyzed. The vibration signals by variation of control variables were measured by acceleration sensor adhered on the surface of winding and core, and measurement variables were calculated using dat acquisition system. After analyzing the normal state, the structural distortion was also simulated. The vibration signals at abnormal state were measured by the same control variables variation as the normal state. As a result, vibration signals between normal and abnormal state could be distinguished by comparison of the perpendicular and horizontal vibration signal.

  • Glass/resin/glass laminate structures are used in the automobile, biological, and display industries. The sandwich structures are used in the micro/nanoimprint process to fabricate a variety of functional components and devices in fields such as display, optics, MEMS, and bioindustry. In the process, micrometer- or nanometer-scale patterns are transferred onto the substrate using UV curing resins. The demodling process has an important impact on productivity. In this study, we investigated the fracture behavior of glass/resin/glass laminates fabricated via UV curing. We performed measurements of the adhesion force and the interfacial energy between the mold and resin materials using the four-point flexural test. The bending-test measurements and the load-displacement curves of the laminates indicate that the fracture behavior is influenced by the interfacial energy between the mold and resin and the resin thickness.
