A Study on Edge Detection Algorithm using Local Mask and Morphological Operation (모폴로지 연산과 국부 마스크를 이용한 에지 검출 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • In the modern society, according to the advancement in digital image processing technology, edge detection is being utilized in various application sectors such as smart device and medical, etc. In existing edge detection methods, there are Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and Laplacian, etc, which uses the mask. These previous methods are easy to implement but shows somewhat insufficient results. Therefore, in order to compensate the problems of existing methods, in this paper, an algorithm that detects the edge using the local mask and morphological operation was proposed and the detection performance was compared against the previous methods.

  • 본 논문은 안경착용 얼굴영상을 위한 실시간 눈 인식 알고리즘을 제안한다. 학습 알고리즘에 기반한 기본의 눈 인식 방법은 안경을 착용한 얼굴영상이 입력으로 주어질 경우 안경의 다양한 크기와 색깔, 형태로 인해 알고리즘의 학습 효율이 크게 떨어져 낮은 눈 인식 성능을 갖게 된다. 제안하는 방법은 모폴로지 연산을 통해 얼굴영상에서 안경이 포함된 부분을 검출하여, 안경으로 인한 눈 인식 알고리즘의 성능저하를 막는다. 성능평가를 위해 제안하는 방법을 Viola & Jones의 눈 인식 학습 기반 눈 인식 알고리즘에 적용하였으며 Spacek의 얼굴영상 데이터베이스를 실험 영상으로 사용하였다. 실험 결과, 제안하는 방법은 기존 눈 인식 알고리즘의 처리속도를 15fps (frames per second)에서 14.2fps로 하락시키면서 인식률을 75%에서 96.3%로 향상하였다.

The Reduction Method of Facial Blemishes using Morphological Operation (모폴로지 연산을 이용한 얼굴 잡티 제거 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a method about reducing facial blemishes using Morphological Operation. First, we detect skin region using pixel data of RGB's each channel image. we create histogram of skin region R, G, B channel and save 3 pixel values that are high frequency pixel value in each channel. After than, we find facial blemishes using Black-hat operation. The pixel value of facial blemishes changes average of its pixel value, 8-neighborhood pixel value and high frequency pixel values. And the facial blemishes pixel is blurred with median filter. The result of this test with facial pictures that have facial blemishes, we prove that this system that correct the face skin using reduction facial Blemishes is more efficient method than correct the face skin just using lighting up.

  • 임의 영상에서 얼굴 영역을 검출하고 얼굴 특징점 정보를 획득하는 기술은 얼굴 인식 및 표정 인식 시스템에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 논문은 색도 정보와 Top-hat 연산을 이용함으로써 얼굴의 유효 특징점을 효과적으로 검출할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 얼굴 영역 검출, 눈/눈썹 특징추출, 입술 특징추출의 세 과정으로 나눈다. 얼굴 영역은 $YC_{b}C_{r}$을 이용하여 피부색 영역을 추출한 후 모폴로지 연산과 분할을 통해 획득하고, 눈/눈썹 특징점은 BWCD(Black & White Color Distribution) 변환과 Top-hat 연산을 이용하며. 입술 특징점은 눈/눈썹과의 지정학적 상관관계와 입술 색상분포를 이용하는 방법을 사용한다. 실험을 수행한 결과. 제안한 방법이 다양한 영상에 대해서도 효과적으로 얼굴의 유효 특징점을 검출할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Multi-scale Image Segmentation Using MSER and its Application (MSER을 이용한 다중 스케일 영상 분할과 응용)

  • Multi-scale image segmentation is important in many applications such as image stylization and medical diagnosis. This paper proposes a novel segmentation algorithm based on MSER(maximally stable extremal region) which captures multi-scale structure and is stable and efficient. The algorithm collects MSERs and then partitions the image plane by redrawing MSERs in specific order. To denoise and smooth the region boundaries, hierarchical morphological operations are developed. To illustrate effectiveness of the algorithm's multi-scale structure, effects of various types of LOD control are shown for image stylization. The proposed technique achieves this without time-consuming multi-level Gaussian smoothing. The comparisons of segmentation quality and timing efficiency with mean shift-based Edison system are presented.

A Morphology Technique-Based Boundary Detection in a Two-Dimensional QR Code (2차원 QR코드에서 모폴로지 기반의 경계선 검출 방법)

  • The two-dimensional QR code has advantages such as directional nature, enough data storage capacity, ability of error correction, and ability of data restoration. There are two major issues like speed and correctiveness of recognition in the two-dimensional QR code. Therefore, this paper proposes a morphology-based algorithm of detecting the interest region of a barcode. Our research contents can be summarized as follows. First, the interest region of a barcode image was detected by close operations in morphology. Second, after that, the boundary of the barcode are detected by intersecting four cross line outside in a code. Three, the projected image is then rectified into a two-dimensional barcode in a square shape by the reverse-perspective transform. In result, it shows that our detection and recognition rates for the barcode image is also 97.20% and 94.80%, respectively and that outperforms than previous methods in various illumination and distorted image environments.

  • 번호판 인식 시스템은 일반적으로 한 차선에 한 카메라를 사용한다. 만약 2개의 차로를 동시에 촬영하도록 카메라를 설치한다면 시스템 구축 비용이 많이 감소할 것이다. 본 논문은 이러한 시스템의 구축에 필요한 기본적인 방법으로써 이미지에서 번호판이 2개 이상 존재할 경우에도 그 위치를 모두 검출할 수 있는 방법에 대하여 제안한다. 번호판 후보 영역 추출은 모폴로지 연산을 통해 검출하고 각 후보 영역은 이진화후 제안한 검증 방법을 통해 후보 영역을 제거하고 번호판인 후보 영역에 대하여 정확한 번호판 영역을 검출한다. 제안한 검출 방법은 일반 번호판과 영업용 번호판 모두 검출할수 있다.

A Scale Invariant Object Detection Algorithm Using Wavelet Transform in Sea Environment (해양 환경에서 웨이블렛 변환을 이용한 크기 변화에 무관한 물표 탐지 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect scale invariant object from IR image obtained in the sea environment. We create horizontal edge (HL), vertical edge (LH), diagonal edge (HH) of images through 2-D discrete Haar wavelet transform (DHWT) technique after noise reduction using morphology operations. Considering the sea environment, Gaussian blurring to the horizontal and vertical edge images at each level of wavelet is performed and then saliency map is generated by multiplying the blurred horizontal and vertical edges and combining into one image. Then we extract object candidate region by performing a binarization to saliency map. A small area in the object candidate region are removed to produce final result. Experiment results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

Color Image Segmentation Based on Edge Salience Map and Region Merging (경계 중요도 맵 및 영역 병합에 기반한 칼라 영상 분할)

  • In this paper, an image segmentation method which is based on edge salience map and region merging is presented. The edge salience map is calculated by combining a texture edge map with a color edge map. The texture edge map is computed over multiple spatial orientations and frequencies by using Gabor filter. A color edge is computed over the H component of the HSI color model. Then the Watershed transformation technique is applied to the edge salience map to and homogeneous regions where the dissimilarity of color and texture distribution is relatively low. The Watershed transformation tends to over-segment images. To merge the over-segmented regions, first of all, morphological operation is applied to the edge salience map to enhance a contrast of it and also to find mark regions. Then the region characteristics, a Gabor texture vector and a mean color, in the segmented regions is defined and regions that have the similar characteristics, are merged. Experimental results have demonstrated the superiority in segmentation results for various images.

  • In this paper, the stroke-based text extraction algorithm for digital video is proposed. The proposed algorithm consists of four stages such as text detection, text localization, text segmentation and geometric verification. The text detection stage ascertains that a given frame in a video sequence contains text. This procedure is accomplished by morphological operations for the pixels with higher possibility of being stroke-based text, which is called as seed points. For the text localization stage, morphological operations for the edges including seed points ate adopted followed by horizontal and vortical projections. Text segmentation stage is to classify projected areas into text and background regions according to their intensity distribution. Finally, in the geometric verification stage, the segmented area are verified by using prior knowledge of video text characteristics.
