A Character Animation Tool Based on Motion Mapping (모션 매핑 기반의 캐릭터 애니메이션 개발 도구)

  • In this paper, we present an animation toolkit based on motion mapping technique in a graphics user interface that can represent data structures necessary for generating character motions. The motion mapping means that an animation sequence generated once can be mapped to another object directly according a data structure in the graphics user interface. Users can generate animation sequences interactively using a mouse. These are obtained automatically by modifying motion data structures interactively. Compared with other conventional tools, the toolkit has different features that two hierarchical structures necessary for representing modeling and animation data are managed independently each other, and that animations generated can be applied to any other characters by connecting the two hierarchical structures in the user interface.

Motion Retargetting Simplification for H-Anim Characters (H-Anim 캐릭터의 모션 리타겟팅 단순화)

  • There is a need for a system independent human data format that doesn't depend on a specific graphics tool or program to use interoperable human data in a network environment. To achieve this, the Web3D Consortium and ISO/IEC JTC1 WG6 developed the international draft standard ISO/IEC 19774 Humanoid Animation(H-Anim). H-Anim defines the data structure for an articulated human figure, but it does not yet define the data for human motion generation. This paper discusses a method of obtaining compatibility and independence of motion data between application programs, and describes a method of simplifying motion retargetting necessary for motion definition of H-Anim characters. In addition, it describes a method of generating H-Anim character animation using arbitrary 3D character models and arbitrary motion capture data without any inter-relations, and its implementation results.

  • Currently, there are many software tools that can generate 3D human figure models and animations based on the advancement of computer graphics technology. However, we still have problems in interoperability of human data models in different applications because common data models do not exist. To address this issue, the Web3D Consortium and the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC24 WG6 have developed the H-Anim standard. However, H-Anim does not include human motion data formats although it defines the structure of a human figure. This research is intended to obtain interoperable human animation by defining the data for human motions in H- Anim figures. In this paper, we describe a syntactic method to define motion data for the H-Anim figure and its implementation. In addition, we describe a method of specifying motion parameters necessary for generating animations by using an arbitrary character model data set created by a general graphics tool.

  • To enhance the educational effect of Multi-Joint Robot have to easily develop motion through the control software. The traditional way of development technique for multi-joint robot is educated with very complicated implementation, but our motion creation tool can be possible to do the creative activity for controling robot movements with ease. This paper mentions to develop the motion creation tool for easily and quickly programming the motion control of multi-joint robot on the educational program. With this tool we easily and exactly provide the education of robot program. In this paper, our suggested tool could not only evade the traditional way of a complicated control program using programming languages but also control easier the robot than the GUI(Graphic User Interface) programming centered on the user's convenience. Additionally, the robot motion's implementation is possible applied with microprocessor experimental equipment educationally to practical use.

Control of a Three-Dimensional Character Animation Based on H-Anim (H-Anim 기반의 3차원 캐릭터 애니메이션 제어)

  • In this paper we describe the method of controlling the animation of 3D characters according to ISO/IEC 19774 (H-Anim) specification, which has been released by Wed3D Consortium and ISO/IEC SC24 WG6. The animation structure of the H-Anim character can be defined and modified in our H-Anim editor program. Our H-Anim animator generates the character's motion automatically according to the input of motion parameters at the character's joints interactively. This paper is focused on the development of a motion generation tool for human-like characters defined by H-Anim structures.

  • 다양한 스타일의 인간 동작을 쉽고 빠르게 생성하는 일은 캐릭터 애니메이션에서 매우 중요한 문제이다 실제로 이러한 애니메이션을 만드는데 있어서 가장 고품질의 결과를 얻을 수 있는 방법은, 전문 애니메이터가 3차원 애니메이션 제작 도구를 사용하여 직접 만드는 것이다. 하지만 일반 사용자가 이와 비슷한 애니메이션을 만드는 것은 어려운 일이다. 이 논문에서는 누구나 쉽게, 그리고 일정 품질 이상으로 3차원 캐릭터 애니메이션을 제작할 수 있는 시스템을 제안한다. 이를 위해서 스케치기반 인터페이스와 모션 데이터베이스를 이용한다. 스케치기반 인터페이스는 일반 사용자가 어렵게 느낄 수 있는, 키 프레임을 쉽고 빠르게 지정할 수 있도록 도와준다. 모션 데이터베이스는 이러한 키 프레임을 설정을 돕고, 애니메이션 제작에 필요한 키 프레임 수를 줄인다. 이 방법으로 누구나 원하는 애니메이션을 쉽고 빠르게 생성할 수 있다.

Realistic Keyboard Typing Motion Generation Based on Physics Simulation (물리 시뮬레이션에 기반한 사실적인 키보드 타이핑 모션 생성)

  • Human fingers are essential parts of the body that perform complex and detailed motion. Expression of natural finger motion is one of the most important issues in character animation research. Especially, keyboard typing animation is hard to create through the existing animation pipeline because the keyboard typing typically requires a high level of dexterous motion that involves the movement of various joints in a natural way. In this paper, we suggest a method for the generation of realistic keyboard typing motion based on physics simulation. To generate typing motion properly using physics-based simulation, the hand and the keyboard models should be positioned in an allowed range of simulation space, and the typing has to occur at a precise key location according to the input signal. Based on the observation, we incorporate natural tendency that accompanies actual keyboard typing. For example, we found out that the positions of the hands and fingers always assume the default pose, and the idle fingers tend to minimize their motion. We handle these various constraints in one solver to achieve the results of real-time natural keyboard typing simulation. These results can be employed in various animation and virtual reality applications.

  • As game and character animation industries are growing, techniques for reproducing realistic character behaviors have been required in various fields. Therefore, intensive researches have been performed in order to find various methods for realistic character animation. The most common approaches to character animation involves tedious user input method, simulation with physical laws based on dynamics, and measurement of actors' behaviors with input devices such as motion capture system. These approaches have their own advantages, but they all have common disadvantage in character control. In order to provide users with convenient control, the realistic animation must be generated with high-level parameters, and the modification should also be made with high-level parameters. In this paper we propose techniques for developing an automated character animation tool which operates with high-level parameters, and introduce techniques for developing actual games by utilizing this tool.

  • 가상현실 시뮬레이터는 교육과 지식의 전달을 위한 도구로 발전하고 있으며, 과학교육 및 문화체험을 위한 첨단과학전시시스템의 수요가 증가하고 있다. 동역학적 계산을 기반으로 하는 기존의 가상현실 시뮬레이터는 컨텐츠의 변경이 어려운 단점이 있으며, 효과적인 지식전달 및 흥미 유발을 위해서는 운동감뿐만 아니라 다감각을 동원한 체감 시스템이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 체감형 전시 시스템에 적합한 운동감 생성 방법과, 다감각 동원 가상현실효과 시스템을 설계하고 통합하였다. 제안된 방법은 영상의 시점변화를 기반으로 한 운동감 생성과, 미리 저장된 모션 라이브러리를 이용한 운동감 효과를 동시에 적용할 수 있으며, 관객의 상호작용에 의한 운동감 효과를 쉽게 추가할 수 있다. 관객의 다양한 감각을 이용한 가상현실 효과를 위하여 체감형 전시 시스템에 적합한 다양한 다감각 효과의 적용 방안을 모색하고, 효율적인 다감각 효과를 선정하여 실제 시스템에 적용하였다. 이를 통하여 체감형 전시를 위한 가상현실 효과 시스템의 기본 구조를 정립하였다.

Basket ball motion recognition using a 3-axis accelerometer sensor of smart phone (스마트폰의 3축 가속도 센서를 이용한 농구 자세 인식)

  • 본 논문에서는 농구 경기에서의 대표적 자세 중 Standing shoot, Jump shoot, Pass, Dribble, Lay-up shoot, 총 5가지 자세를 인식하기 위해 각 자세와 3축 가속도 값과의 상관관계를 보여주고 있다. 스마트폰에 내장되어 있는 가속도 센서로부터 데이터를 생성해주는 어플리케이션인 Sensor log를 활용하여 얻은 3축 가속도 값으로 수직, 수평축과 3축 가속도의 크기를 구해 Instance로 사용하였다. 위 데이터는 대표적인 데이터 마이닝 도구인 Weka tool을 이용하여 각 모션과 데이터 값의 상관관계를 확인하였고, 실험 결과 10-fold에서 평균 59.8%를 보였으나 Training set과 Test set의 결과 80.8%를 보였다.
