  • In this paper, the static and dynamic behavior of partly wrinkled membrane was studied. Membrane finite elements were used in the analysis and the wrinkling in the element was accounted for by a penalty-parameter material modeling which was implemented as a user subroutine to ABAQUS. The wrinkle algorithm was applied to a corner-loaded square membrane to investigate the effect of wrinkling on the static and dynamic behavior.

  • This paper deals with residual stresses induced at the viscoelastic adhesive layer between the semiconductor chip and the leadframe during adhesion process. The adhesive layer has been assumed to be“thermorheologically simple”. The time-domain boundary element method(BEM) has been employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. Numerical results show that very large stress gradients are present at the interface corner and such singularity might lead to local yielding or edge delamination.

  • In extracting contours from elevation matrix, the most important problem is to solve the degenerate case where four cross point arise in a grid. This paper describes a technique which performs the checking of degenerate case and determination of next point simultaneously. It requires minimum number of array indexing. Also this paper proposes a technique which reduces the number of array indexing by using LOWER/HIGHER information of a cross point designated according to height difference of grid vertices. In addition, we describe a data structure which is proper for representing cross points and tracing them.

  • A fast convergent solution to the scattering problem of a transverse electric (TE) plan wave by a periodic strip grating with a dielectric slab is considered. The present method follows from an expansion of the equivalent surface magnetic current placed over the shorted slot according to the equivalence principle in a series of Chebyshev polynomials satisfying the appropriate edge condition. To examine the accuracy and convergence of the present method, the numerical results are calculated for the reflection and transmission coefficients and compared with other results available in the literature.

  • The objective of the present study is to analyze material flow in the metal forming processes by using computer simulation and experiment with model material, plasticine. A UBET program is developed to analyze the bulk flow behaviour of various metal forming problems. The elemental strain-hardening effect is considered in an incremental manner and the element system is automatically regenerated at every deforming step in the program. The material flow behavior in closed-die forging process with rib-web type cavity are analyzed by UBET and elastic-plastic finite element method, and verified by experiments with plasticine. There were good agreements between simulation and experiment. The effect of corner rounding on material flow behavior is investigated in the analysis of backward extrusion with square die. Flat punch indentation process is simulated by UBET, and the results are compared with that of elastic-plastic finite element method.

  • In this paper, the E-polarized electromagnetic scattering problems by a resistive strip grating with tapered resistivity on 3 dielectric layers are analyzed to find out the effects for the tapered resistivity of resistive strip and the relative permittivity and thickness of 3 die- lectric layers by applying the Fourier-Galerkin moment methods. The induced surface current density is expanded in a series of Jacobi-polynomial ${P^{(\chi,\beta)}}_p$(.) of the order $\alpha$= 0 and $\beta$=1 as a kind of orthogonal polyomians, and the tapered resistivity assumes to vary linearly from 0 at one edge to finite resistivity at the other edge. The normalized reflected and transmitted powers are obtained by varying the tapered resistivity and the relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layers. The sharp variation points are observed when the higher order modes are transferred between propagating and evanescent modes, and in general the local minimum positions occur at less grating period for the more relative permittivity of dielectric layers. It should be noted that the patterns of the normalized reflected and transmitted powers for the tapered resistivity are very much different from those of the uniform resistivity and perfectly conducting cases. The proposed method of this paper cna solve the scattering problems for the tapered resistive, uniform resistive, and PEC strip cases.

  • Non-manifold topological operations such as Euler and Boolean operations provide a versatile environment for modeling domains. The implementation of these operations raises geometrical issues that need to be addressed to ensure the topological validity of the underlying model, and they uses the glue operation which provides a basic method to modify the topology of non-manifold models when vertices, edges and faces are contacting each other. Topological information such as adjacency relationships should be inferred when gluing non-manifold models. Two methods of reasoning can be employed to find the topological information : topological reasoning and geometrical reasoning. The topological method can infer the adjacency relationships by using stored topological information. On the other hand, the geometrical method can find topological ambiguities by considering the geometrical shape at the local area of gluing when the topological relations were not stored. This paper describes the geometrical reasoning method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new antialiasing method using filtering technique which is base on morphological pixel structure Aliasing occurs along the edge of lines and polygons. This undesirable effect happens because there are not enough pixels available on a typical monitor to properly display mathematically smooth lines and polygon edges. Aliasing can be very distracting. In a typical graphic scene, aliasing artifact will be visible along the edges of all objects that greatly diminish of realism. The proposed antialiasing method attempts to smooth extreme jagged contour lines and edges by properly handling pixel's structure, surface type and adjusting the pixel color according to the amount of pixel coverage. Next, we use filtering technique considering morphological pixel structure. Experimental results have shown that the propose algorithm achieves better performance in reducing noise for antialiasing. The method will be widely applied to basic antialiasing technique for computer graphic applications.

  • In this paper, the solutions of TM (transverse magnetic) scattering problems by perfectly conducting strip grating on two dielectric layers are analyzed by applying the FGMM (Fourier Galerkin moment method) as a numerical method. For the TM scattering problem, the induced surface current density is expected to the very high value at both edges of the strip, then the induced surface current density on the strip is expanded in a series of the multiplication of the functions of appropriate edge boundary condition and the Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. The numerical results are obtained for the magnitude of induced current density, the normalized reflected power and transmitted power. The numerical results using proposed functions were improved the convergence faster than existing exponential functions, and the numerical results shown the good agreement compared to those of the existing papers.
