Usability Test to Improve the News Applications of the Major Broadcasting Companies :Focus on the MBC and SBS (지상파 방송사의 뉴스 앱 개선을 위한 사용성 평가 :MBC와 SBS를 중심으로)

  • This study conducted usability test to users in 20s in order to find problems for improving news apps of the major broadcasting companies. Efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction were evaluated by mobile news content type. Also there is including analysis of the news topics (hard news, soft news) and broadcasters (MBC, SBS). As a result, same problems were found in common items according to mobile news content types. And in the news topic, there was a difference in the news values and news attributes that need to be improved. This study gives practical implications to the news producers to improve the contents of news apps.

  • This study analysed news consumers' perception toward the use of mobile devices and examined their preference on news contents. News audience in the mobile age hoped that news producers make news contents through communication with audience. They showed a negative stance against the attitude that news producers underestimate the audience' intellectual level. Audience preferred novel news formats and services adapted to the mobile environments. In terms of the role of the press, they preferred interpretive and investigative journalism rather than superficial and sensual journalism. Therefore, news companies should consider audience' news consuming attitudes in their producing and delivering news. They also should seek for utilizing the use of the mobile media more aggressively than ever before.

Statistical analysis of mobile internet news users' attributes affecting on opinion formation for social major issues (모바일 인터넷 뉴스 이용자의 속성이 정치, 경제, 사회적 주요 현안에 대한 의견 형성에 미치는 영향에 대한 통계적 분석)

  • The proliferation of smart devices (such as smart phones and tablet PCs) has led to a marked increase in the use of mobile-based internet. As a result, the influence of the mobile internet has become important to make opinions on social issues. This study explores the effects of mobile internet news users' characteristics on formation of opinions about major political, economic and social issues. We used the data from the media audience awareness survey by the Korean Press Foundation in 2016 and 2017 in this analysis. The characteristics of the news users are gender, age, education, income, news usage days, news usage hours, media application usage days, news gathering application usage days, portal usage days, and media official website usage days. These characteristics are known as possible explanatory variables for the mobile internet news users. Multiple logistic regressions were done with interpretation to know which covariates affect on formation of major opinion.

Millennial Generation's Mobile News Consumption and the Impact of Social Media (밀레니얼세대의 모바일 뉴스소비와 소셜미디어의 영향)

  • This paper examined how the millennial generation consumes mobile news through social networking sites with regards to user patterns, preference topics and news values, and whether news topics and news values may influence their overall mobile SNS news consumption and interactivity. The findings show that more than 2/3 of respondents consumed mobile SNS news at least once everyday for 30minutes to one-hour. Male millennials tended to use Facebook and Kakao-talk more than female. While the portal site was the most accessed channel for consuming mobile news, SNS was the second, more than the combined use of national daily papers, TV, and internet newspapers. The respondents' demographic characteristics and news topics also affect the form and degree of news interactivity. With regards to their preferences and prioritization of news values, millennials tend to perceive 'impact' and 'usefulness' as being most important, despite the differences of their demographic characteristics. They also preferred those news values most. There were significant differences in terms of preferred news topics according to the demographics' characteristics.

Overlapping-based Smart Advertisement Technique for Mobile News Articles (모바일 뉴스 기사를 위한 중첩 기반의 스마트 광고 기법)

  • Mobile news users want news articles without advertising, meanwhile the news providers require advertisement displays in several types to attain advertising revenue. In this paper, we classified the types of advertisements on mobile news articles into fixed article type which is fixed on some areas of articles, fixed screen type which is fixed on mobile screens, and a combination type of them. In addition, we proposed a smart solution based on overlapping method which effectively organize advertisements to not distract the readers. The proposed method is similar to fixed article type and overlapping technique of advertisements on news article's photo or virtual area. The performance evaluation result shows that the proposed method provides more spaces for news articles effectively than the existing methods. Although only some areas of advertisements may be blocked according to the number or size of advertisements, the effect is not critical.

  • This research proposes a personalized mobile web contents creation method that uses web news channel contents-based analysis. It promptly acquires data through the RSS and RSS-linked web pages which have been supplied by the existing web sites for a news search. And then It applies a personalization method using analysis in contents filtering and generation. The proposed method will make creating mobile web contents easier while lowering wireless contents production costs. Moreover, It can be improved a user satisfaction for contents filtering and access with using analysis that fits in with a matter of user's specific interest.

  • 최근 Device 의 대중화로 모바일 폰 사용자는 언제 어디서라도 정보서비스 및 멀티미디어 동영상 서비스를 쉽게 접할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만, 작은 화면과 불편한 User Interface 를 가진 모바일 Device 의 한계와 양적인 컨텐츠의 증가로 인하여 사용자가 원하는 정보를 Access 하기에는 너무 많은 시간과 비용이 소요되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자의 Accessibility 욕구를 충족하고 시간과 비용을 절감하기 위한 방법으로서 무선 인터넷 환경에서의 추천 시스템을 기반으로 방대한 분량의 뉴스 컨텐츠 가운데 개인화 된 뉴스를 선별, 제공해 주는 지능형 추천 시스템을 설계 구현하고자 한다. 본 논문은 인공 지능 분야 중 에이전트의 추천 역할과 기능면에서 Collaborative Filtering 방법이 갖고 있는 계산 속도 문제에 대한 대안으로서, 유사한 선호도의 사용자를 특성에 따라 분류하기 위해 군집분석을 이용했으며, 각 군집별로 뉴스 카테고리를 Weighting 한 후, 뉴스 컨텐츠를 Scoring, Listing하여 사용자가 읽은 뉴스에 대한 평가를 기록하고 이틀 각 군집별로 반영하는 방법을 수행하였다. 추가로 뉴스 컨텐츠의 사용자 만족도를 평가하기 위하여 뉴스를 처음부터 끝까지 읽은 완독률을 측정기준으로 제시하고 일반적인 무선 인터넷 환경하의 뉴스 메뉴체계와 비교하여 설계된 시스템의 성능에 대한 유효성을 검증하였다.

  • 본 논문은 지역에 관심이 많은 사용자들이 실시간으로 모바일 웹페이지 형태의 뉴스를 제공 받을 수 있는 시스템을 설계하고 이를 제작하였다. 사용자는 실시간으로 본인이 위치한 지역을 대상으로 종합되어지는 뉴스를 모바일 웹페이지 형태의 오브젝트로 제공받는다. 본 연구를 통해 지역 관심도 향상 및 지역 개발 촉진 및 관광시설 피드백 활성화 효과의 기대가 가능하다.

  • Although wireless devices are the most suitable device for ubiquitous environment, they have restrictive capacities when using internet services than desktop environments. Therefore this research proposes a wireless internet service method that uses contents-based personalization. The existing websites can easily and promptly access desired news articles and other data through RSS-linked web contents and by the personalization method. The proposed method will make using wireless internet easier while lowering contents production costs. Moreover, personalized mobile web news contents that satisfy the preferences of users can be serviced.

An Analysis of the Middle-aged Adults' Mobile Information Behavior Focused on their Demographic Characteristics (중·장년층의 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 모바일 정보이용행태 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the middle-aged adults' mobile information behavior focused on their demographic characteristics. To achieve the aim of this study data were collected from 50 to 64 years old middle-aged adults who live in different size of cities and towns in Korea using self-designed questionnaire through online and offline survey. Gender, academic background, income level, size of residential zone, physical condition, and occupation were adopted as demographic characteristics, and type of mobile contents use, hour of mobile use, ability of mobile use, persistency of mobile use, and usability of mobile were used as the mobile information behavior in this study. Total of 191 valid data were analysed using SPSS Ver. 21. The results of this empirical study revealed that there exist a significant difference between some of their demographical characteristics (e.g., academic backgrounds, income level, and occupation) and mobile information behaviors particularly in their contents use.
