Evaluation on Stiffness of Mortar-filled Sleeve Splice Using Estimation Method of Failure Mode (파괴모드 추정방법을 이용한 모르타르 충전식 슬리브 철근이음의 강성 평가)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the stiffness of mortar-filled sleeve bar splice using estimation method of failure mode in the sleeve reinforcement splice. To attain this goal, we analyzed the test results of 261 actual-sized mortar-filled sleeve splice specimens. The study results showed that the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve bar splice made an effective estimate of the stiffness in this bar splice with the exception of specimens with SD500 bars and smooth pipe sleeve. Especially, of the specimens with cast sleeve or uneven pipe sleeve in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, specimens over 98% with SD400 bars and all specimens with SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in monotonic loading. In addition, of the specimens in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, all specimens with SD400 bars and SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in cyclic loading.

  • In order to make a more reasonable evaluation on the stiffness of the high-strength mortar-filled sleeve bar splices under cyclic loading, we investigated and analyzed the existing experiment data of 106 full-sized reinforcing bar splices with test variables such as compressive strength of mortar, development length of reinforcement and sleeve type, etc. The following were found: 1) If mortar and the reinforcement development length with $f_{g^*}$(L/d) of more than 340 is used, the cast iron sleeve bar splices for SD350 and SD400 will have the stiffness of higher than A class of the AIJ code. 2) If mortar and the reinforcement development length with $f_{g^*}$(L/d) of more than 400 is used, the cast iron sleeve splices and pipe sleeve splices for SD500 will have the stiffness of higher than A class of the AIJ code.

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate the structural performance of mortar-filled ductile cast iron sleeve splice developed for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar under cyclic loading. The test variables adopted in this study are the development length of bar, compressive strength of mortar, bar size, sleeve types and others. In this research, it is showed that the mortar-filled sleeve splice for SD500 high-strength bar satisfied the structural performance required in ACI, AIJ code as well as domestic code. Also the results of experimental research presented in this paper provided basic engineering data for developing a reasonable design method of mortar-filled sleeve splice for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the stiffness of the mechanical sleeve reinforcement splices filling high-strength mortar under monotonic loading. For this objective, we analyzed and compared the previous test data of 189 actual-sized mortar-filled sleeve bar splices specimens, including the reinforcing bar splices prepared and tested by the author. The paper results indicated that the minimum values of compressive strength of mortar($f_g$) multiplied by the ratio of reinforcement development length to bar diameter(L/d) were suggested for holding the stiffness of the mortar-filled sleeve reinforcement splices required in AIJ code.

Confining Effect of Mortar Grouted Splice Sleeve on Reinforcing Bar (모르타르 충전식 철근이음과 구속효과)

  • The grouted splice steeve has been applied widely due to its superior construction efficiency, such as the unnecessity of post concrete and the large allowable limit to the arrangement of reinforcing bars. However, studies on grout-filled splice steeve still have not been sufficiently peformed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the confining effect of mortar grouted splice sleeve on reinforcing bar, known to strengthen the bond capacity between grout mortar and reinforcing bar. To accomplish this objective, totally 6 full-sized specimens were made and tested under monotonic loading. Each specimens were equipped with strain gauges at the 12 location of sleeve and reinforcing bar. The experimental variables adopted in this study are embedment length and size of reinforcing bars. Following conclusions are obtained; 1) Under ultimate strength condition, the confining pressure of grouted splice sleeve calculated from measured tangential and axial strain of the sleeve is over $200{\sim}300kgf/{cm}^2$ at any location of sleeve and improved with reduction in embedment length of reinforcing bar. 2) Untrauer and Henry's equation which describe bond strength of mortar as a function of its compressive strength and confining pressure, predicted the measured bond capacity of this test within the 5% limits.

Structural Performance of High Strength Grout-Pilled Splice Sleeve System (고강도 모르타르 충전식 철근이음의 구조성능에 관한 실험연구)

  • Among many connection methods of reinforcing bar, the grout-filled splice sleeve system is very effective method of precast concrete construction due to its superior construction efficiency, such as large allowable limit to arrangement of reinforcing bars, good application of large sized reinforcing bars. In this study, totally 20 full-sited specimens were made and tested under monotonic and cyclic loading in order to extend the usage range of grout-filled splice sleeve system. The experimental variables adopted in this study are size of reinforcing bars embedded in upper and lower part of sleeve and compressive strength of filled mortar etc. After test was performed, the results were compared and analyzed with respect to previous test of author. Following main conclusions are obtained : 1) The structural performance of splice sleeve system is improved with increasing compressive strength of filled mortar. And also it was verified that the splice sleeve system with over 700 kgf/㎠ mortar compressive strength and over 6.54 development length of reinforcing bar retains the structural performance of over A class(AIJ Criteria). 2) In the case of using different size of reinforcing bars embedded in upper and lower part of sleeve, the result show that splice sleeve matching with large sized reinforcing bar must be used. And also up to 2 level smaller size of reinforcing bar compared to large reinforcing bar embedded in sleeve can be used.

Analytical and Experimental Studies on Splice Sleeves for SD500 Rebars (SD500 철근용 충전식 슬리브 철근이음에 대한 해석 및 실험적 연구)

  • Splice sleeves for HD25 and HD32 rebars with yield strength 500 MPa were studied experimentally and analytically. The shapes of sleeve was examined with nonlinear finite element analyses. A total of 18 specimens were tested with test variables of rebar types, sleeve lengths, mortar compressive strengths, and rebar development lengths. Three identical specimens per each variable were tested in order to prevent any test errors. After tests, numerical studies with a nonlinear finite element method were conducted to evaluate the test results. Experimental studies with 18 specimens showed that the sleeves of this study satisfies the code requirement. It was found that the strength of mortar and the bar development length within the sleeves did not affect to the load-carrying capacity of sleeves.
