The Clinical Effect of Sandplay Therapy on Adolescent Behavior and Emotion - Through Minesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (모래놀이치료가 청소년의 행동, 정서에 미치는 임상효과 - 다면적 인성검사를 중심으로)

  • The sand play therapy showed a clinical treatment effect to such children with lots of problem behaviors at the previous studies. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effect to emotional and behavioral problems with 20 adolescents after 10 weeks group sand play therapy. After sand play therapy, the subjects showed a significant effect such that the MMPI depression scale score, somatic symptoms complaints, social discomfort, psychomotor retardation, somatic dysfunction, affection desire, bizarre sensation experience, shyness/self-consciousness were decreased from baseline to 10 weeks of the study. We suspected that the sand play caused to clinical effect to physical problems as well as emotional problems of the adolescents with school maladaptation.

Design and Implementation of Psychological Diagnosis Expert System based on the SandTray (모래 상자 놀이 기반 심리 진단 전문가 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper aims to design a system for psychological diagnosis in sandbox play by applying rule based expert system. Sandbox play is one of play therapy and it is a technique that can be combined with psychological diagnosis and treatment using sand and various kinds of figures. In this technique, we focus on psychological diagnostic factors and try to implement a system that automatically diagnoses psychological types when input values are given. Therefore, six kinds of language objects are set and the rules are created according to the types of figures, arrangement of figures, and production time in the sand box used as a reference element in the diagnosis method. In this system, it is assumed that the client recognizes the finished sandbox as a sensor device. Then, when the recognized state enters the input value, the rules based on the language object are ignited in order. Through this, the client is diagnosed with one of 26 types of psychology. As a result, the diagnostic process is simplified and automated. Accordingly, a more detailed psychological diagnosis and treatments are provided.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CHARACTERISTICS IN RORSCHACH RESPONSE AND SANDPLAY BETWEEN ADHD AND NORMAL CHILDREN (ADHD 아동과 정상아동의 Rorschach반응 및 모래놀이치료 내용 비교)

  • Objectives : Present study compared the characteristics in Rorschach responses and Sandplay between ADHD and normal children group. Method : ADHD (excluded inattention type & emotional problem) group and normal group was composed of 10 children respectively. All of them were controlled by Intelligence Quotation. Rorschach responses were scored by Exner system and compared by t-test. For sandplay work, the time was measured and photo was taken. Results : 1) ADHD group showed that the reaction time in Rorschach was significantly fast and they easily failed to recall the responses. The statical significances are 3r+ (2)/R, X-%, Xu%, (2), AG, Afr, SCZI, Wsum 6, FD, Zd, Blends, a. 2) ADHD group showed that the reaction time in Sandplay was significantly fast, they used low materials (total numbers of toy, vehicles) and the work was less coordinated. Conclusion : This results suggest that ADHD children are apt to react, think and coordinate impulsively. Also, Sandplay could be used fur diagnostic method as Rorschach test.

A Case Study of Sandplay Therapy in a College Student with Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (외상 후 스트레스 장애 증상을 보이는 대학생의 모래놀이치료 사례연구)

  • A college student who exhibited several post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms was used as a case study in order to investigate the therapeutic effects of sandplay therapy for PTSD sufferers. In total, 27 sessions of the sandplay treatment program were used to conduct psychological tests before and after the sessions. Any changes in the manner of expressions on the sand box during the treatment, and the results of pre and post psychological tests on aspects of depression, anxiety and interrelationships were analyzed. Overall results showed that the subject exhibited progressive behavioral improvement and signs of recovery. Psychological tests revealed reduced levels of depression and anxiety, and improved interrelationship scores. In conclusion, sandplay therapy does exhibit positive benefits as an effective treatment modality for PTSD in adolescents and young adults.

Child Sandplay Therapy for Ego Development, a Case-Study (우울한 모를 둔 여아의 자아 발달을 위한 모래놀이치료 사례연구)

  • This research was based on a case study of a child who experienced difficulties in ego development due to her mother's compulsive and depressed behavior. Twenty-four therapeutic play sessions, including 16 sessions involving sandplay, were conducted. Based on discussions by Neumann and Kalff, the child's early psychic development and ego development were observed during these sandplay. As part af this investigation, I conducted counseling sessions in the sandbox where the atmosphere was free and safe. The sessions were based on mother-child unity with the therapist. As a result, the child exhibited restoration of mother-child unity and showed the journey of constellation of self and ego development. The results of this research indicate the effectiveness of sandplay in accelerating ego development.
