  • This paper presents the improvement of start-up characteristic of sensorless controlled IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) with SMO(Sliding Mode Observer). It is difficult to utilize the rotor position information at starting point for the back EMF estimation based sensorless control. For this reason, open loop control is normally used during start-up period. However, changing from open loop to closed loop control might bring a problem on the transient characteristics for difference load conditions. To solve this problem, we add another rotor angle controller. Simulation results and experimental results are presented to verify proposed method.

  • Position tracking control of a link of a slave manipulator which needed to track the corresponding link of a master manipulator was addressed in this paper. Since driving torque from motor is transmitted through a set of flexible cable to link, the motion control system is modeled by a two-mass model connected with elastic coupling which has finite stiffness. Relative vibration of two-mass resonant system is a serious problem to operate manipulator. This paper proposed sliding mode control to reduce resonant vibration and fine position tracking control. Also, a pseudo-sliding mode control which uses a saturation function instead of a signum function was discussed and showed that the pseudo-sliding mode control can improve disturbance regulation performance as well as guarantees fine command tracking without chattering which is an inherent drawback of basic sliding mode control. In addition, a disturbance observer based sliding mode control has been suggested to improve disturbance regulation performance. The feasibility of the proposed control design was verified along with some simulation results.

  • In this paper, SAR payload operation mode design method, results and performance analysis results are suggested. To SAR payload design, pramary parameter should be identified and designed. It is designed considering the small satellite of less than 100kg operated in low earth orbit. Also, an antenna structure for small size and light weight is proposed. Performance analysis is performed by applying the design values.

  • This paper presents a RLS based adaptive sliding mode observer (A-SMO) for unknown fault reconstruction in longitudinal autonomous driving. Securing the functional safety of autonomous vehicles from unexpected faults of sensors is essential for avoidance of fatal accidents. Because the magnitude and type of the faults cannot be known exactly, the RLS based A-SMO for unknown acceleration fault reconstruction has been designed with relationship function in this study. It is assumed that longitudinal acceleration of preceding vehicle can be obtained by using the V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communication. The kinematic model that represents relative relation between subject and preceding vehicles has been used for fault reconstruction. In order to reconstruct fault signal in acceleration, the magnitude of the injection term has been adjusted by adaptation rule designed based on MIT rule. The proposed A-SMO in this study was developed in Matlab/Simulink environment. Performance evaluation has been conducted using the commercial software (CarMaker) with car-following scenario and evaluation results show that maximum reconstruction error ratios exist within range of ±10%.

  • The sliding mode controller has characteristics that ensure stability and robustness against system uncertainty and disturbance. However, chattering occurs in the control inputs to compensate for system uncertainties and ensure that the system operates efficiently on the sliding surface. When the disturbance is large, using a sliding mode controller requires a large control gain value, which also increases chattering and reduces performance. Therefore, in this study, a nonlinear disturbance observer was used to compensate for external disturbances such as currents and waves and uncertainty in the control system for autonomous underwater vehicles. Accordingly, a robust controller can be implemented while reducing the control gain. The disturbance observer serves to ensure that the behavior of the actual system is closer to the nominal model by compensating for uncertainties between the actual system model and the nominal model during the control process. Therefore, the simulation results show that the performance and robustness of the autonomous underwater vehicle controller are improved by introducing a disturbance observer.

  • This paper proposes the robust high-gain observer based SOC estimatro for uncertain RC model of Li-Ion batteries. In general, RC battery model has inevitable uncertainties and it cause some negative effect to estimate the accurate SOC of Li-Ion batteries. The proposed estimator overcomes such weakness with two techniques; high-gain observer design technique and sliding mode control technique. A high-gain observer provides the robustness against model uncertainties to the proposed estimator. A sliding mode control technique helps the proposed estimator by reducing the side effect of adopting a high-gain observer such as peaking phenomenon and perturbation. The performance of the proposed estimator is verified by some simulation.

  • Propagation of the guided waves in a steam generator (SG) tube was investigated. Dispersion curves and the incident angles corresponding to the specific modes were calculated for the SG tube. The modes of guided wave were identified by time-frequency diagrams obtained by short time Fourier transform. Group velocities were also determined from the time-frequency diagrams obtained at the different separations of transducers. In experiment. distinct mode conversion was not observed when the guided ultrasound passed curved region of the S/G tube. The optimum mode of guided wave for the inspection of SG tube was suggested and verified by experiments.

  • Stimulated Brillouin scattering theory is described in an optical fiber. Frequency change with an optical heterodyne method is analyzed between reference signal of a source and stimulated Brillouin scattering signal in an optical fiber. By coupling a source with a few axial modes and an optical fiber ring resonator, Brillouin scattering is studied with a spectrum analyzer. Using reference beating signal of a source, we have reduced the Brillouin beating frequency from 13 GHz range to below GHz. Experimentally, we can see the Brillouin beating frequency from 13 GHz range to below GHz with a dispersion shifted fiber (1.32 GHz), Ti-doped fiber (900 MHz) and single mode optical fiber (870 MHz). MHz).

  • The effects of external continuous wave optical injection on spectral comb of a 10 GHz harmonically mode-locked semiconductor fiber ring laser have been studied. Greater than 40 dB spectral deeps in the spectral comb and greater than 30 dB reduction of supermode beating noise are achieved by injecting coherent light with ~ 100 KHz spectral width. To examine the possibility of using a low-cost seed source, we replace the seed source by a DFB laser with ~ 10 MHz spectral width. It shows similar spectral deeps, however supermode beating noise enhancement, rather than reduction, is observed.
