  • In the Hadoop-based Big Data analysis model, the data movement between the legacy system and the analysis system is difficult to avoid. To overcome this problem, a unified Big Data file system is introduced so that a unified platform can support the legacy service as well as the analysis service. However, major challenges in avoiding the performance degradation problem due to the interference of two services remain. In order to solve this problem, we first performed a real-life simulation and observed resource utilization, workload characteristics and I/O balanced level. Based on this analysis, two solutions were proposed both for the system level and for the technical level. In the system level, we divide I/O path into the legacy I/O path and the analysis I/O path. In the technical level, we introduce an aggressive prefetch method for analysis service which requires the sequential read. Also, we introduce experimental results that shows the outstanding performance gain comparing the previous system.

  • The Bio-Inspired system is a computing model that emulates the objects in ecosystem which are evolving themselves and cooperate each other to perform some tasks. Since it could be used to solved the complex problems that have been very difficult to resolve with previous algorithms, there have been a lot of researches to develop an application based on the Bio-Inspired system. However, since this computing model requires the process of evolving and cooperating with a lot of objects and this process takes a lot of times, it has been very hard to develop an application based on this computing model. This paper presents a parallel simulator for a Bio-Inspired system that is designed and implemented with OMNeT++ on PC clusters, and proves its usefulness by showing its simulation performance for a couple of applications. In the proposed parallel simulator, the functions required in the ERS platform for evolving and cooperating between objects (called Ecogent) are mapped onto the functions of OMNeT++, and they are simulated on PC clusters simultaneously to reduce the total simulation time. The simulation results could be monitored with a GUI In realtime, and they are also recorded into DBMS for systematic analyses afterward. This paper shows the usefulness of the proposed system by analyzing its performances for simulating various applications based on Bio-Inspired system on PC clusters with 4 PCs.

  • The mean temperature equation is a key factor in calculating GPS meteorological information. A local mean temperature equation should be used to improve accuracy of GPS PWV (Precipitable Water Vapor). In this paper, four local mean temperature equations, HP, $HP_M,\;HPt_Y,\;and\;HPt_M$ from Ha & Park (2008) were used to analyze the effects of local models in determining GPS PWV. Four different sets of GPS PWVs were compared with radiosonde PWV to validate the accuracies of local models. GPS PWVs of four local models have similar trends compared against radiosonde PWV. The bias and RMS error were the same level: the bias is ${\sim}3mm$ and the RMS is ${\sim}3.6mm$ after the bias was removed. Especially, with $HPt_Y\;and\;HPt_M$ models one can obtain accurate PWVs even without surface temperature measurements. And we investigated dry bias of radiosonde measurements depending on sensor types and observation time at Sokcho weather station. After the radiosonde sensor equipment was changed from RS80-15L to GRS DFM-06, dry bias of radiosonde PWV decreased about 18.2% during daytime (KST 09:00), and 16.1% during nighttime (KST 21:00).

  • The personal workspace consists of user- specified computing environment such as user profile, applications and their configurations, and user data. Mobile computing devices (i.e., cellular phones, PDAs, laptop computers, and Ultra Mobile PC) are getting smaller and lighter to provide personal work-space ubiquitously. However, various personal work-space mobility solutions (c.f. VMWare Pocket ACE[1], Mojopac[2], u-PC[3], etc.) are appeared with the advance of virtualization technology and portable storage technology. The personal workspace can be loaded at public PC using above solutions. Especially, we proposed a framework called ubiquitous personal computing environment (u-PC) that supports mobility of personal workspace based on wireless iSCSI network storage in our previous work. However, previous u-PC could support limited applications, because it uses IRP (I/O Request Packet) forwarding technique at filter driver level on Windows operating system. In this paper, we implement OS-level virtualization technology using system call hooking on Windows operating system. It supports personal workspace mobility and covers previous u-PC limitation. Also, it overcomes personal workspace loading overhead that is limitation of other solutions (i.e., VMWare Pocket ACE, Mojopac, etc). We implement a prototype consisting of Windows XP-based host PC and Linux-based mobile device connected via WiNET protocol of UWB. We leverage several use~case models of our framework for proving its usability.

  • Nowadays, wireless packet data services are provided over cdma2000 1x/1xEV-DO mobile communication network and Portable Internet are being standardized for users demanding higher data rate services. Portable Internet can provide high data rate services, but its service coverage is relatively small. If Portable Internet may be integrated with cdma2000 mobile networks, users are able to choose the best service according to service areas and get seamless services while they are moving around. At the same time, it is cost-effective for operators to construct and maintain the integrated network. For the purpose of effectively integrating Portable Internet into cdma2000 networks, we propose an integration scheme including network architecture, protocol architecture, functions in network elements, interfaces between them, and call-flow procedures. The integration scheme proposed in this paper adopts a tightly-coupled architecture for unified authentication/accounting and seamless services. In addition, the scheme can be implemented without modifying the existing cdma2000 mobile communication networks. It is also simple to develop the dual-mode mobile station. Through the simulation results based on the performance model for handoffs between cdma2000 and Portable Internet, it has teen validated that the proposed scheme diminishes packet losses compared with the loosely-coupled architecture.

  • Cables are installed for tens of thousands of connections between various pieces of equipment to operate and control a commercial ship. The correct shortest-route data is necessary since these are complicated cable installations. Therefore, an overfill interval commonly exists in the shortest paths for cables as estimated by Dijkstra's algorithm, even if this algorithm is generally used. It is difficult for an electrical engineer to find the overfill interval in 3D cable models because the occupancy rate data exist in a data sheet unlinked to three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD). The purpose of this study is to suggest a visualization method that displays the cable path and overfill interval in 3D CAD. This method also provides various color visualizations for different overfill ranges to easily determine the overfill interval. This method can reduce cable-installation man-hours from 7,000 to 5,600 thanks to a decreased re-installation rate, because the cable length calculation's accuracy is raised through fast and accurate reviews based on 3D cable visualization. As a result, material costs can also be reduced.

  • This paper proposes a novel TSK fuzzy modeling algorithm. Various approaches to fuzzy modeling when noise or outliers exist in the data have been presented but they are approaches to degrade effects of outliers or large noise by using loss function in the cost function mainly. The proposed algorithm is the modified version of noise clustering algorithm, and it adopts the method that does not use loss function, but method to cluster noise in a class. Noise clustering is a prototype-based clustering algorithm and it has no capability to regress. It conducts clustering of data first, and then conducts fuzzy regression. There are many algorithms to obtain parameters of premise and consequent part simultaneously, but they need to adapt the parameters obtained for more accurate approximation. In this paper, fuzzy regression is conducted with clustering by modifying noise clustering algorithm. We propose the algorithm that parameters of the premise part and the consequent part are obtained simultaneously, and the parameters obtained are not needed to adapt. We verify the proposed algorithm through simple examples and evaluate the test results compared with existing algorithms. The proposed algorithm shows robust performance against noise and it is easy to implement.

  • Line density index(LDI) was developed to quantify a densely isothermal line rate as standard index in the ocean environment. Theoretical background on the LDI development process restricting index range 0 to 100 was described. And validation test was done for the LDI application condition that total line length is not greater than 1/10 of unit area. NOAA SST(Sea Surface Temperature) data were used for the experimental application of LDI in the South Sea of Korea. Using GIS, $0.1^{\circ}C$ isothermal lines were linearized as vector data form SST raster data, and unit area were built as polygon data. For the LDI calculation, spatial overlapping(line in polygon) was implemented. To analyze the effect of unit area size for the LDI distribution, two cases of unit area size were designed and descriptive statistics was calculated including performing normality test. The results showed no change of LDI's essential characteristics such as mean and normality except for the range of value, variance and standard deviation. Accordingly, it was found that complex structure of thermal front and even smaller scale of front width than unit area size could influence on the LDI distribution. Also, correlation analysis performed between LDI and difference of temperature(${\Delta}T^{\circ}C$), and horizontal thermal gradient(${\Delta}T^{\circ}C/km$) on the front was obtained from linear regression model. This obtained value was compared with the results from previous researches. Newly developed LDI can be used to compare the thermal front regions changing spatio-temporally in the ocean environment using absolute index value. It is considered to be significant to analyze the relationship between thermal front and marine environment or front and marine organisms in a quantitative approach described in this study.

  • This paper proposes a fully-utilized block-based 2D DWT architecture, which consists of four 1D DWT filters with two-channel QMF PR Lattice structure. For 100% hardware utilization, we propose a new method which processes four input values at the same time. On the contrary to the image-based 2D DWT which requires large memories, we propose a block-based 2D DWT so that we only need 2MN-3N of storages, where M and N stand for filter lengths and width of the image respectively. Furthermore, the proposed architecture processes in horizontal and vertical directions simultaneously so that it computes the DWT for an $N{\times}N$ image within a period of $N^2(1-2^{-2J})/3$. Compared to existing approaches, the proposed architecture shows 100% of hardware utilization and high throughput rate. However, the proposed architecture may suffer from the long critical path delay due to the cascaded lattices in 1D DWT filters. This problem can be mitigated by applying the pipeline technique with maximum four level. The proposed architecture has been designed with VerilogHDL and synthesized using DongbuAnam $0.18{\mu}m$ standard cell.

  • This paper presented a hybrid ternary encoding scheme using 3-valued logic. It can adapt to the delay-insensitive(DI) model. We designed an asynchronous wrapper for the hybrid ternary encoding scheme to communicate with various asynchronous encoding schemes. It reduced about 50% of transmission lines and power consumption compared with the conventional 1-of-4 and ternary encoding scheme. The proposed wrappers were designed and simulated using the $0.18-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology. As a result, the asynchronous wrapper operated over 2 GHz communicating with a system bus. Moreover, the power dissipation of the system bus adapted the hybrid ternary encoding logic decreases 65%, 43%, and 36% of the dual-rail, 1-of-4, and ternary encoding scheme, respectively. The proposed data encoding scheme and the wrapper circuit can be useful for asynchronous high-speed and low-power asynchronous interface.
