  • The vehicle structure of Automated People Mover(APM) made of aluminum honeycomb sandwich with WR580INF4000 glass-fabric epoxy laminate facesheets was evaluated by structural test and finite element analysis. The test of the vehicle structure was conducted according to JIS E 7105. The structural integrity of vehicle structure was evaluated by stress, deflection and natural frequency obtained from dial-gauge and acceleration sensor. And the proposed finite element models were compared with the results of structural test. The results of finite element analysis showed good agreement with those of structural test. Also, in order to improve the stiffness of vehicle structure, the modified underframe model with reinforced side sill was proposed in design stage. The composite vehicle structures with modified underframe model had the improved structural stiffness about 44%.

  • Object-oriented database systems have been proposed as an effective solution for providing the data management facilities of complex applications. Proving this claim and the investigation of related issues such as query processing have been hampered by the absence of a formal object-oriented query model. In this paper, we not only define a query model based on aggregation inheritance but also develop semantic rewriting rules which are applied to equivalence preserving rewrite rules in algebraic expression of a query. Analyzing semantically the query model, the query model can be optimized to logically object-oriented query processing. And algebra expresstions of a query can be optimized by applying equivalence preserving rewrite rules.

  • An improved model for predicting the reinforced concrete element behavior under dynamic strain rates was developed using the layer modeling technique. The developed strain rate sensitive model for axial/flexural analysis of reinforced concrete elements was uses to predict the test results, performed at different loading rates, and the predictions were reasonable. The developed analysis technique was used to study the loading rate sensitivity of reinforced concrete beams and columns with different geometry and material properties. Two design formulas for computing the loading rate dependent axial and flexural strengths of reinforced concrete sections were also suggested.

  • The problem on cyclic plate load tests was analyzed by finite element method using an anisotropic hardening constitutive model. The constitutive model was coded to user subroutine in ABAQUS. Using the result of the analysis, Young's moduli corresponding to various strain levels were evaluated by a back calculation method and were very similar to those of input. On the basis of the back calculation method plate loading tests were verified. As a result, deformation moduli could be evaluated practically from cyclic plate load tests with respect site conditions.

  • As window programming and internet programming are more required, requirement of the training on the object-oriented programming and the object oriented software development are growing. But, it is not easy to learn new brand methodologies or techniques. In this paper, we tried to apply software reuse to object modeling education for effective learning of new programming and modeling method. In this paper, we present analogical matching techniques for the reuse of object models and patterns in object modeling education. Analogy-based matching is better than keyword-based retrieval for model reuse. Reuse can help to reduce the learning curve of object modeling. Also, by applying analogical reasoning, the performance of retrieval is better than keyword-based retrieval.

  • In this paper a computational method for a homogenized peridynamics description of unidirectional fiber-reinforced composites is presented. For these materials, dynamic brittle fracture and damage are simulated with the proposed peridynamic model. Compared with observations from dynamic experiments by Coker et al.(2001), the peridynamic computational model can reproduce various characteristics of dynamic fracture and supersonic or intersonic crack growth in asymmetrically loaded unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite plates. Also we analyze the same model in the symmetric loading condition and figure out that the asymmetric loading leads to a much higher propagation speed. Consistent results have been reported in the experiments.

  • In this paper, the finite element models for composite lattice structures were verified through natural frequency test. Finite element models of composite lattice structure were generated using beam, shell and solid element. Natural frequencies were measured using impact test method under free-boundary condition. The natural frequencies of finite element analysis for shell and solid element showed a good agreement with experimental results. But beam element did not show a good agreement with experimental results, because beam element could not consider the degradation of mechanical properties of non-intersection parts for composite lattice structure.

  • In this paper, prediction of progressive interlaminar fracture in curved composite laminates under mode I loading was described. The prediction of progressive interlaminar fracture in curved composite laminates was conducted using cohesive zone model(CZM) in ABAQUS V6.13. Interlaminar fracture toughness used as input parameters in CZM was obtained through mode I, mode II and mixed mode I/II tests. The behaviors of progressive interlaminar fracture for curved composite laminates showed a good agreement between experimental and numerical results.

  • A mathematical model of vapor explosion propagation is presented. The model predict two-dimensional, transient flow fields and energies of the four fluid phases of melt drop, fragmented debris, liquid coolant and vapor coolant by solving a set of governing equations with the relevant constitutive relations. These relations include melt fragmentation, coolant-phase-change, and heat and momentum exchange models. To allow thermodynamic non-equilibrium between the coolant liquid and vapor, an equation of state for oater is uniquely formulated. A multiphase code, TRACER, has been developed based on this mathematical formulation. A set of base calculations for tin/water explosions show that the model predicts the explosion propagation speed and peak pressure in a reasonable degree although the quantitative agreement relies strongly on the parameters in the constitutive relations. A set of calculations for sensitivity studies on these parameters have identified the important initial conditions and relations. These are melt fragmentation rate, momentum exchange function, heat transfer function and coolant phase change model as well as local vapor fractions and fuel fractions.

  • This paper predicted deformation due to thermal residual stress in composites using finite element analysis. Temperature cycle, Model shape, Laminate angle, Stacking sequence, chemical shrinkage of resin, and thermal expansion are affect composite deformation. Compare the results of the analytical model with the actual model of the same shape. This paper suggests that the analytical results can be applied to actual Model.
