  • In this paper, we studied a system that detects and analyzes the pathological features of diabetic retinopathy using Mask R-CNN and a Random Forest classifier. Those are one of the deep learning techniques and automatically diagnoses diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy can be diagnosed through fundus images taken with special equipment. Brightness, color tone, and contrast may vary depending on the device. Research and development of an automatic diagnosis system using artificial intelligence to help ophthalmologists make medical judgments possible. This system detects pathological features such as microvascular perfusion and retinal hemorrhage using the Mask R-CNN technique. It also diagnoses normal and abnormal conditions of the eye by using a Random Forest classifier after pre-processing. In order to improve the detection performance of the Mask R-CNN algorithm, image augmentation was performed and learning procedure was conducted. Dice similarity coefficients and mean accuracy were used as evaluation indicators to measure detection accuracy. The Faster R-CNN method was used as a control group, and the detection performance of the Mask R-CNN method through this study showed an average of 90% accuracy through Dice coefficients. In the case of mean accuracy it showed 91% accuracy. When diabetic retinopathy was diagnosed by learning a Random Forest classifier based on the detected pathological symptoms, the accuracy was 99%.

  • This thesis investigates the relationship of the 18th century European landscape painting and the scientific (optical) instruments like Camera obscura and Camera lucida. Based on the fact that some landscape painters, 'veduta painters', at that times might have used or surely used these optical instruments in their sketches/drawings, it explores the reasons for using them and their working process with them, and analyses the advantages/disadvantages here as well as the aesthetic problems in the cases of the Italian painter Antonio Canaletto (or Canal, 1697-1768), the British topographic artist Thomas Sandby (1721-98) and the British chemist/optician Willian Henry Fox Talbot (1800-77). Advantages of using Camera obscura/lucida are rapidity in drawing, truthful representation of nature/reality and 'accurate' fulfilling of perspectival structures. But partly 'inaccurate' or simplified depictions as disadvantages can be traced in drawings/sketches made by using these instruments. Another problem lie in the subordination of the artistic work to the technical devices, but for artists still remain the creative working process in painting like coloring, tone and chiaroscuro etc. Therefore, it can be maintained that the optical instruments have played a role of the subsidiary tool as an aid to painting.

  • These studies were carried out to develop a system for non -destructive and continuous measurement of fresh weight and to analyse the growth response of leaf lettuce under the different nutrient solution and light condition with this system. The developed measurement system was consisted of four load cells and a microcomputer. The output from the system was highly positive correlation with the plant fresh weight above the surface of the hydroponic solution. The top fresh weight of plant could be measured within the error $\pm$ 1.0g in the range of 0 - 2000g. The top fresh weight of leaf lettuce increased 44 times at 18th day after transferring to the nutrient solution, and the maximum growth rate was observed at 13th day after transferring. The growth rate was 10.7- 29.6% per day during 18 days. Optimum concentration of the nutrient solution for the growth of lettuce was 1.4 - 2.2 mS/cm of EC level. When the light condition was changed from dark to light, the fresh weight was temporarily decreased, but the fresh weight increased under the opposite condition. Top fresh weight of leaf lettuce in the darkness normally increased within 12 hours after darkness treatment, and then slowly increased until 78 hours under continuous dark condition. After that times, the fresh weight began to decrease.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the chemical composition of smalt pigments used in 10 large Buddhist paintings in the Joseon Dynasty using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and to clarify the material and characteristics by observing morphological characteristics using polarized light microscopy and a scanning electron microscope. Through chemical composition analysis, the smalt of all 10 large Buddhist paintings is judged to be potash glass using SiO2 as a former and K2O as a flux. In addition to the components related to cobalt ore used as a colorant, the paintings were found to contain high levels of As2O3, BaO, and PbO. The smalt particles did not have specific forms, and were blue in color, with various chromaticity. In some particles, conchoidal fracture, spherical bubbles, and impurities were observed. Through backscattered electron images, it was found that the smalt from paintings produced in the early 18th century AD had a high level of As, but the smalt from paintings produced from the mid-18th century AD onwards exhibited various contrast differences from particle to particle, and there was smalt with high levels of As, Ba, and Pb. Through the above results, the large Buddhist paintings in the Joseon Dynasty are divided into three smalt types. Type A is a type with high As2O3, type B is a type with high BaO, and type C is a type with high PbO. Looking at the three types of smalt pigments by the period of production, although some in-between periods were not detected, type A was confirmed to have been used from 1705 to 1808, while type B and type C were shown to have appeared in 1750 and used until 1808. This reveals that only one type of smalt was used until the early 18th century AD, and from the middle of the 18th century AD, several types of smalt were mixed and used in one large Buddhist painting. Studies such as this research are expected to provide insights into the characteristics of the smalt pigments used to produce large Buddhist paintings at the time.

  • The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of drying, curing and freezing on the quality of beef. Three types of dried (without salt = $T_1$, with salt = $T_2$ and salt + spices = $T_3$); three types of cured (salt curing = $T_4$, sugar curing = $T_5$ and brine curing = $T_6$) and three types of frozen beef ($0^{\circ}C=T_7^{\circ}C$, $-10^{\circ}C=T_8$ and $-20^{\circ}C=T_9$) were analyzed at different time intervals up to the period of 180 d. Parameters studied were protein, fat, ash, color and cooking loss of beef. All the chemical constituents (protein, fat and ash) were decreased gradually up to 120 d. The decreasing trend was observed rapid after 120 d up to 180 d of preservation. Highest protein loss was found in $T_7$ (11.1 %) and the lowest protein loss was found in $T_6$ (3.85%) in 180 d preservation and significant (p < 0.01) differences were observed among the different preservation methods. Highest fat loss was observed in $T_6$ (7.62%) and the lowest fat loss was observed in $T_2$ (3.18%) and the differences were also significant (p < 0.05) among different methods during the experimental period. Spices dried beef showed a brighter color than others and cured beef showed brown color and the intensity of color was reduced gradually with the increasing of storage period. $T_9$ showed the lowest cooking loss among 3 treatments of frozen beef and the differences also significant (p < 0.01) up to 180 d. It might be stated that sugar curing ($T_5$) and spices drying ($T_3$) would be the useful technique of meat preservation in rural areas and freezing ($T_9$) would be used in large scale preservation at urban areas.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth color changes of resin bonding sites and their adjacent sites on orthodontic bracket bonding. Sixty extracted sound premolars were used and the tooth color was recorded according to the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color system using a spectrophotometer. The tooth colors of the twenty premolars were measured and compared before bracket bonding and after removal. On a further twenty premolars, the tooth color was measured before and after only primer application. In the change of $L^*$ values, according to the bracket bonding and primer application, the lightness was decreased, and in the change of $a^*\;and\;b^*$ values, the color was changed into a more yellowish color The color differences $({\Delta}E^*)$ were calculated from the $L^*a^*b^*$ values and compared with the standard value of clinical detection $({\Delta}E^*=3.7)$. The color differences between before the bracket bonding and after removal noted exceeded the standard value and those of between before and after the primer application were not larger than the standard value. Toothbrushing was performed after application of the primer to evaluate the color changes according to the primer abrasion. As a control, toothbrushing was performed on the last twenty premolars. The color differences noted were larger than the standard value after toothbrushing. Also, to evaluate the color changes of the tooth which is exposed to sun irradiation after bracket removal, additional photoaging was performed and the color was measured for all teeth. The additional color differences after photoaging were smaller than the standard value. The above results suggest that the tooth color changes after fixed orthodontic treatment.

  • Spatial resolution is still one of the most important parameters for evaluating image quality. In this study, we propose an approach to evaluate spatial resolution and MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) using bar target and Siemens star chart as a part of quality evaluation for UAV images. To this end, images were taken with a fixed-wing eBee(Canon IXUS) at the flight height of 130m and 260m, and with a rotary-wing GD-800(SONY NEX-5N) at flight height of 130m, with a Phantom 4 pro(FC 6310) at flight height of 90m, respectively. Spatial resolution was measured on orthoimages produced from this data. Results show that the resolution measured on the Siemens star and bar target was accurately degraded in proportion to the flight height regardless of the cameras. In the words, the spatial resolution of images taken at the same altitude of 130m with the eBee(Canon IXUS) and the GD-800(SONY NEX-5N) equipped with different cameras was the same as 4.1cm, and that of the eBee(Canon IXUS) at 260m was 8.0cm. In addition, the resolution measured on the Siemens star was about 1~2cm lower than that of the bar target at every flight height. The general tendency was also found to be proportional to the flight height in the measurement of the ${\sigma}_{MTF}$ from MTF, which simultaneously represents the resolution and contrast information of the image. However, at the same altitude of 130m, the ${\sigma}_{MTF}$ of the GD-800(SONY NEX-5N) is 0.36 and the eBee(Canon IXUS) is 0.59, which shows that the GD-800(SONY NEX-5N) has better camera performance. It is expected that study results will contribute to the analysis of spatial resolution of UAV images and to improve the reliability of quality.

  • Maeul-making, which is to restore inherent characteristics of maeul as a living community has been proceeded by local communities themselves since the 1990s when political democracy and local government in Korean society has been progressed in full-scale. Although New Maeul Movement has been done in the 1970s before and after, it is different from maeul-making because it was focused mainly on improving physical environments of rural communities and initiated by government. The development of maeul community archives in Korea has been related closely to such a maeul-making since the 1990s. Maeul-based community archives, maeul community archives had been begun to build as part of maeul-making and grass-root movement by the 2000s. Initiated by self-motivated communities, maeul community archives were carried out through cooperations between civic activists and residents in maeul communities and voluntary professional archivists from outside. Although records about the maeul community has been collected by mainstream cultural institutions such as public archives, museum, local historical association, and local cultural center, it was at this time to collect records of the maeul community by self-motivated local residents. This tendency of 'independent' maeul community archives, however, is currently entering upon a new phase with the city of Seoul's project (2012) to support making a maeul community, that is, the governance phase based on private-government partnership. At this point of time, it is important for maeul community archives to be built on privately-led governance model that guarantees their autonomy and at the same time bring government's knowhow and supports into them, as opposed to the way captured or driven unilaterally by government. This article explores the growth of maeul community archives and collections in Korean society through a range of self-motivated bodies; the interaction with government; and as a result of those interactions, the creation of maeul community archives based on governance. To introduce and explicate the motivations behind maeul archiving endeavors, this article will first sketch something of the historical, social, and political context in which 'maeul' communities have arisen, collapsed, and restored. It will then examine in more detail some specific examples of maeul community archives as grass-root movement of maeul community. The third section will attempt to identify the governance model of maeul community archives under the auspices of the city of Seoul and its limitations. Finally through these activities, it will suggest the ways in which maeul community archives commit themselves to their duty of grass-root movement of community and at the same time, secure sustainability, that is, concrete ways of privately initiated governance model.
