The Effects of Calcinated Calcium Solution Washing and Heat Treatment on the Storage Quality and Microbial Growth of Fresh-cut Broccoli (신선편이 브로콜리의 품질과 미생물 성장에 영향을 주는 소성칼슘 용액 세척 및 열처리 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of calcinated calcium (CC) alone or combination with heat treatment on storage quality and microbial growth in fresh-cut broccoli. Fresh broccoli samples were cut into small pieces and washed in normal tap water (TW), $50{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ chlorinated water (pH 6.5), $1.5g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ CC, heat treatment in TW at $45^{\circ}C$, and CC dissolved in TW at $45^{\circ}C$ for 2 minutes separately. Samples were then packaged in $50{\mu}m$ polyethylene bags and stored at $5^{\circ}C$. Results revealed that like $50{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ chlorine, washing in CC at normal water temperature was effective in reducing microbial population in fresh-cut broccoli samples. Washing with CC combined with heat treatment increased an electrical conductivity of fresh-cut broccoli. Combined heat treatments with TW and CC reduced aerobic plate count on fresh-cut broccoli, only in initial period of storage. But, later on heat treatment induced injury of fresh-cut broccoli resulting more microbial population compared to non heat treatment. However, samples treated with CC alone had good quality with low off-odor at the end of storage. Results suggest that CC, an environment-friendly sanitizer could be an alternative to chlorinated water for washing of fresh-cut broccoli without affecting sensorial quality.

  • 1. Objectives and Importance. Many silkworms have been damaged by nuclear polyhedrosis virus diseases thoughout the country every year causing a decease in cocoon production by approximately ten per cent per year. The damage caused by the infections virus has occured in spite of complete disinfection. In this respect, it is well known it is impossible, at the present time, to protect the silkworm from these virus infections through chemical and physical control methods. Therefore, this author has attempted to solve this urgent problem from the view point of heredity and breeding, discovering the different resistances and heritabilities among 120 stains collected from throughout the country, and selecting the ones with highest resistance for the basic materials in the silkworm breeding. 2. Results of work 1) The strains with strong resistance to the nuclear polyhedrosis virus diseases are N$_4$, N$\sub$15/, N$\sub$48/, C$\sub$55/ and Em. the log ED$\sub$50/ values of them vary between 0.799 and 1.611. The susceptible strains are N$\sub$20/, C$\sub$62/, N$\sub$76/, N$\sub$79/ and C$\sub$108/, the log ED$\sub$50/ values of them vary between 5.159 and 7.258. (Reference Table 4) The Japanese strain with a log ED$\sub$50/, value of 3.770 is the strongest, followed by the Chinese strain with a log ED$\sub$50/ value of 3.564. The weakest is the European strain with a log ED$\sub$50/ value of 3.3381. The direction coefficient of the regression equation of the susceptibility varies between 0.1 and 0.6, the uniformness of the resistance of the preserved strains of this country is comparatively low. The hereditary henomena of the resistance of each strain and the conerete method of its application for silkworm breeding main the subjects for later studies. 2) The content of water and ash in silkworm has not been correlated with the capability for resistance to the virus diseases(Reference. Table 8). but it is very significantly correlated with mortality rate (in common reaning). In the case of the silkworms which have just completed the fourth moulting the content of water and ash is not related to the mortality rate. In the case of the silkworms which have just completed the third moulting, however, the water( +0.326) and ash (+0.362) registered a high significance. The ash content in the first ($\div$0.520) and second ($\div$0.386) moults is highly significant but water content in both cases is not significant (Reference Table 7). 3) The No. 205 strain proved to be the best in character among the various F$_1$ hybrids. No. 204 was very good in strength but a little lower in cocoon character than the control. No. 212 was a little low in coccon character and mortality was average, but the cocoon harvest was the best among all the varieties offered for (Reference Table 9). 4), In short, the above mentioned strains which are known to have strong resistance to the virus disease are expected to provide basic data for breeding strong varieties. Growth Efficiency, Carcass Quality Characteristics and Profitability of 'High'-Market Weight Pigs ('고체중' 출하돈의 성장효율, 도체 품질 특성 및 수익성)

  • Domestically, finishing pigs are marketed at 110 kg on an average. However, it is thought to be feasible to increase the market weight to 120kg or greater without decreasing the carcass quality, because most domestic pigs for pork production have descended from lean-type lineages. The present study was undertaken to investigate the growth efficiency and profitability of ‘high’-market wt pigs and the physicochemical characteristics and consumers' acceptability of the high-wt carcass. A total of 96 (Yorkshire × Landrace) × Duroc-crossbred gilts and barrows were fed a finisher diet ad laibtum in 16 pens beginning from 90-kg BW, after which the animals were slaughtered at 110kg (control) or ‘high’ market wt (135 and 125kg in gilts & barrows, respectively) and their carcasses were analyzed. Average daily gain and gain:feed did not differ between the two sex or market wt groups, whereas average daily feed intake was greater in the barrow and high market wt groups than in the gilt and 110-kg market wt groups, respectively(P<0.01). Backfat thickness of the high-market wt gilts and barrows corrected for 135 and 125-kg live wt, which were 23.7 and 22.5 mm, respectively, were greater (P<0.01) than their corresponding 110-kg counterparts(19.7 & 21.1 mm). Percentages of the trimmed primal cuts per total trimmed lean (w/w), except for that of loin, differed statistically (P<0.05) between two sex or market wt groups, but their numerical differences were rather small. Crude protein content of the loin was greater in the high vs. 110-kg market group (P<0.01), but crude fat and moisture contents and other physicochemical characteristics including the color of this primal cut were not different between the two sexes or market weights. Aroma, marbling and overall acceptability scores were greater in the high vs. 110-kg market wt group in sensory evaluation for fresh loin (P<0.01); however, overall acceptabilities for cooked loin, belly and ham were not different between the two market wt groups. Marginal profits of the 135- and 125-kg high-market wt gilt and barrow relative to their corresponding 110-kg ones were approximately -35,000 and 3,500 wons per head under the current carcass grading standard and price. However, if it had not been for the upper wt limits for the A- and B-grade carcasses, marginal profits of the high market wt gilt and barrow would have amounted to 22,000 and 11,000 wons per head, respectively. In summary, 120~125-kg market pigs are likely to meet the consumers' preference better than the 110-kg ones and also bring a profit equal to or slightly greater than that of the latter even under the current carcass grading standard. Moreover, if only the upper wt limits of the A- & B-grade carcasses were removed or increased to accommodate the high-wt carcass, the optimum market weights for the gilt and barrow would fall upon their target weights of the present study, i.e. 135 and 125 kg, respectively.

Performance Evaluation of Radiochromic Films and Dosimetry CheckTM for Patient-specific QA in Helical Tomotherapy (나선형 토모테라피 방사선치료의 환자별 품질관리를 위한 라디오크로믹 필름 및 Dosimetry CheckTM의 성능평가)

  • Purpose: The radiochromic film (Gafchromic EBT3, Ashland Advanced Materials, USA) and 3-dimensional analysis system dosimetry checkTM (DC, MathResolutions, USA) were evaluated for patient-specific quality assurance (QA) of helical tomotherapy. Materials and Methods: Depending on the tumors' positions, three types of targets, which are the abdominal tumor (130.6㎤), retroperitoneal tumor (849.0㎤), and the whole abdominal metastasis tumor (3131.0㎤) applied to the humanoid phantom (Anderson Rando Phantom, USA). We established a total of 12 comparative treatment plans by the four geometric conditions of the beam irradiation, which are the different field widths (FW) of 2.5-cm, 5.0-cm, and pitches of 0.287, 0.43. Ionization measurements (1D) with EBT3 by inserting the cheese phantom (2D) were compared to DC measurements of the 3D dose reconstruction on CT images from beam fluence log information. For the clinical feasibility evaluation of the DC, dose reconstruction has been performed using the same cheese phantom with the EBT3 method. Recalculated dose distributions revealed the dose error information during the actual irradiation on the same CT images quantitatively compared to the treatment plan. The Thread effect, which might appear in the Helical Tomotherapy, was analyzed by ripple amplitude (%). We also performed gamma index analysis (DD: 3mm/ DTA: 3%, pass threshold limit: 95%) for pattern check of the dose distribution. Results: Ripple amplitude measurement resulted in the highest average of 23.1% in the peritoneum tumor. In the radiochromic film analysis, the absolute dose was on average 0.9±0.4%, and gamma index analysis was on average 96.4±2.2% (Passing rate: >95%), which could be limited to the large target sizes such as the whole abdominal metastasis tumor. In the DC analysis with the humanoid phantom for FW of 5.0-cm, the three regions' average was 91.8±6.4% in the 2D and 3D plan. The three planes (axial, coronal, and sagittal) and dose profile could be analyzed with the entire peritoneum tumor and the whole abdominal metastasis target, with planned dose distributions. The dose errors based on the dose-volume histogram in the DC evaluations increased depending on FW and pitch. Conclusion: The DC method could implement a dose error analysis on the 3D patient image data by the measured beam fluence log information only without any dosimetry tools for patient-specific quality assurance. Also, there may be no limit to apply for the tumor location and size; therefore, the DC could be useful in patient-specific QAl during the treatment of Helical Tomotherapy of large and irregular tumors.

Changes of Components in Salt-Fermented Anchovy, Engraulis Japonicus Sauce during Fermentation (숙성기간에 따른 멸치액젓의 성분변화)

  • To investigate changes of components in salt-fermented anchovy, Engraulis japonims sauce during fermentation, various chemical properties were examined at $1.5{\~}3$ months interval during 18 months fermentation. Moisture content and pH were decreased slightly, but the contents of VBN and crude protein, total and amino nitrogen, hydrolytic degree and absorbance at 453 nm were increased gradually during fermentation. On the other hand, ash content and salinity showed almost no change. Hk and uric acid were the most abundant in ATP related compounds, ranging from $80.1{\%}\;to\;92.7{\%}$ in salt-fermented anchovy sauce during the fermentation, After 18 months of fermentation the sauce was rich in free amino acids, such as glutamic acid, leucine, alanine, lysine, isoleucine, valine in that order.

  • In this study, we observed differences in the fruit body genesis in with seasonal changes. The mushrooms generated different spines even when under same environmental conditions in equivalent growth chambers during different seasons. The growth chamber conditions were set at $18^{\circ}$, 1000 ppm CO and 95% humidity for uniform primordium formation. Following this, the humidity was reduced to 85% during growth and development. The characteristics of the fruit body were measured: yield (weight), length (size), hardness, and chromaticity. Each measure was relatively compared owing standard data for. We investigated the environmental factors to assess the cause of variation in fruit body. Change in temperature and humidity were especially focused on, apart from climate that can affect mushroom growth. It was observed that temperature and humidity both influence fruit body growth. Not the absolute value of the elevation, there was a change of climate which the temperature is lowered and lowered the humidity can be assumed that the changes in the environmental conditions inside the growth chamber the mushroom growth.

The Study about the Preservation of the Paper of Mulberry (상지(桑紙)의 보존성(保存性)에 관한 연구)

  • This study is about the paper of Mulberry(桑紙). The paper which was usually applied to the ancient bookpaper and documents. But there is a rare record about it today. So the paper was made from the Mulberry(뽕나무) bast fiber using traditional handcraft method. and Paper Mulberry(닥나무) by traditional method. And tested by physical and optical methods in comparisons with Paper Mulberry(닥나무). The ratio of length/width of Mulberry fiber was 475, and its lignin content was lower than the Paper Mulberry. The Mulberry paper had similar forming properties and physical strength to the Paper Mulberry fiber. Therefore, the Mulberry fiber seem to be a good paper fiber for traditional paper. For the aging test, in the thermal acceleration treatment for 72 hours and 144 hours at the temperature of $105^{\circ}C$ incubator, the Mulberry paper was more deteriorative than the Paper Mulberry. In the ultraviolet acceleration treatment for 100 hours and 200 hours the Mulberry paper was less interior to the Paper Mullberry, in the increase of treatment time. And the Mulberry paper was approved to be a good traditional paper in appearance. Furthumore, in considing the sample of bred Mulberry species grown today, its paper is thought to be superio to the paper of Paper Mulberry in symptom of senility in natural ultraviolet light.

Preparation of Functional Beverage by Using Dandelion (Taraxacum mongolicum H.) Extracts and Its Functional Components (민들레(Taraxacum mongolicum H.) 추출액을 이용한 기능성 음료 개발 및 기능성 성분)

  • The objective of this study is to prepare functional beverages with dandelion (Taraxacum mongolicum H.) extracts. As a result of sensory evaluation, 10% water extracts of dandelion containing beverage, which was the highest value of overall preference, was chosen for further examinations. Moisture content of developed beverage was $99.6{\pm}0.5%$ and sugar content decreased from 0.8 to $0.7^{\circ}Brix$ whereas pH increased from 3.4 to 3.7 by addition of 10% dandelion extracts. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents of beverage were $295.8{\pm}5.8mg/L$ and $122.8{\pm}18.4mg/L$, respectively. The developed beverage showed higher DPPH radical scavenging activity of $98.2{\pm}0.6%$ than the beverage without extract. Moreover, concentration of silibinin in the T. mongolicum H. beverage was $0.3{\pm}0.04mg/L$.

  • 최근들어 반도체 및 디스플레이 소자의 구조가 복잡해짐에 따라 다층 박막 증착에 대한 중요성이 날로 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 다층 박막을 효율적으로 증착하기 위해 회전이 가능한 육각건을 개발하였고, 이를 이용하여 에너지 절약형 단열 유리 증착 공정을 구현 하였다. 개발된 회전형 육각건은 기존 플래너형 스퍼터링 건의 확장형으로서 최대 6개의 물질을 하나의 챔버에서 증착이 가능하도록 구성되었다. 기존 공정의 경우 서로 다른 물질 증착을 위해서는 각각의 챔버가 필요한 반면, 회전형 육각건을 이용할 경우 하나의 챔버에서 공정을 진행할 수 있어 원가 절감이 가능하다. Fig. 1은 개발된 회전형 육각건의 모식도로서, 스퍼터링 타겟이 장착 가능한 건과, 회전부로 구성되어 있다. 이를 이용하여 투명전극-금속-투명전극-금속-절연체로 구성되어 있는 에너지 절약형 단열 유리용 다층 박막 증착 공정을 개발하였다. 이때 알루미늄이 도핑된 ZnO (AZO)는 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터로, 금속 박막은 DC 스퍼터, $SiO_2$ 및 SiN과 같은 절연 박막은 $O_2$$N_2$ 분위기에서 반응성 RF 스퍼터로 각각 증착하였다. Base pressure는 $10^{-7}$ torr였으며, 증착 시 공정 압력은 1~3 mTorr로 조정하였다. 증착 균일도 향상을 위해 20 rpm의 속도로 기판을 회전시켰다. Fig. 2(a)는 ZnO-Ag-ZnO 구조로 이루어진 다층 박막의 단면을 관찰한 투과전자 현미경 사진으로 각 층간의 계면이 뚜렷하게 나타남을 확인할 수 있으며, 각 층간의 intermixing 현상이 발생하지 않음을 확인 가능하다. 이를 보완하기 위해 Fig. 2(b)에서 보는 바와 같이 XPS를 이용하여 depth profile을 측정하였다. 각 층에서 서로 다른 물질이 발견되는 현상, 즉 교차 오염이 발생함에 따라 나타나는 intermixing 없이 거의 순수한 형태의 ZnO, Ag 박막 성분이 검출되었다. 이는 6개의 서로 다른 물질이 장착된 회전형 육각건을 이용하여 고 품질의 다층 박막 증착이 가능함을 제시하는 결과이다. 증착된 다층 박막의 균일도는 3.8%, 가시광선 영역에서 80% 이상의 투과도, 면저항 값은 3 ${\Omega}/{\Box}$ 이하를 보임으로서 에너지 절약형 단열 유리로서의 사양을 만족시키는 결과를 제시하였다.

  • With the development of fast construction mode in shipbuilding market, the demand on accuracy management of hull is becoming higher and higher in shipbuilding industry. In order to enhance production efficiency and reduce manufacturing cycle time in shipbuilding industry, it is important for shipyards to have the accuracy of ship components evaluated efficiently during the whole manufacturing cycle time. In accurate shipbuilding process, block accuracy is the key part, which has significant meaning in shortening the period of shipbuilding process, decreasing cost and improving the quality of ship. The key of block accuracy control is to create a integrate block accuracy controlling system, which makes great sense in implementing comprehensive accuracy controlling, increasing block accuracy, standardization of proceeding of accuracy controlling, realizing "zero-defect transferring" and advancing non-allowance shipbuilding. Generally, managers of accuracy control measure the vital points at section surface of block by using the heavy total station, which is inconvenient and time-consuming for measurement of vital points. In this paper, a new measurement method based on point clouds technique has been proposed. This method is to measure the 3D coordinates values of vital points at section surface of block by using 3D scanner, and then compare the measured point with design point based on ICP algorithm which has an allowable error check process that makes sure that whether or not the error between design point and measured point is within the margin of error.
