The purpose of this study is to confirm the effect of reducing the surface dose around the radiation field in breast cancer radiotherapy using the Field-in-Field (FIF) technique. X-ray was exposed from a linear accelerator (Linac) was used for irradiation, and the surface dose was measured with a glass dosimeter. The source-to-surface distance (SSD) was 90 cm, the field size is 10 × 10 cm2, and the X-ray energy was 6 MV and 10 MV, respectively. The surface dose of the FIF was compared with the dose measured in the physical wedge (PW) and dynamic wedge (DW). Wedge angles of 15° and 30° were used in the PW and DW, respectively. Surface dose was measured at 1 cm, 3 cm, and 5 cm from the center of the field size, respectively. According to the results, FIF showed lower surface dose compared to PW and DW regardless of the energy of the X-ray beam, wedge angle, and dose measurement point. Since FIF could reduce the radiation dose in periphery of the field size in breast cancer treatment, it is expected to be able to reduce the secondary damage caused by the radiation beam as well as to obtain a uniform dose distribution on the target.

A development of a software on radar target signature analysis is presented in this paper The target signature includes Radar Cross Section(RCS) prediction, Range Profile(RP) processing and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar(ISAR) processing. Physical Optics(PO) is the basic calculation method for RCS prediction and Geometrical Optics(GO) is used for ray tracing in the field calculation of multiple reflection. For RP and ISAR, Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and Matrix Pencil(MP) method were implemented for post-processing. Those results are integrated into two separate softwares named as Radar Target Signature Generator(RTSG) and Radar Target Signature Analyser(RTSA). Several test results show good performances in radar signature prediction and analysis.

In the case of a small UUV operating an active synthetic aperture sonar, various velocity disturbances may occur on the path due to the influence of external underwater environment, and this causes phase errors in coherent synthetic aperture processing, which has a large influence on the detected image. In this paper, when a periodic sinusoidal velocity disturbance is generated in the traveling direction, the phase generated by the round trip slope range at each position is estimated the cross correlation coefficient for multiple received signals and compensated the position variation in the overlapped DPC by the average value within the maximum allowable width. Through simulations, it has been confirmed that the images degraded by the velocity disturbance amplitude and fluctuating frequency of the UUV are removed from the false targets and the performance of azimuth resolution is improved by the proposed phase compensation method.

This paper presents a ground-to-air bistatic radar system and its implementation algorithm, which resembles an SAR(synthetic aperture radar) reconstruction algorithm. Via cooperative working between a standoff transmitting radar and an array of ground based receiving radars, it detects and images moving targets under clutter in the air. In the proposed system, the whole receiving antenna aperture is synthesized by physical ground based radars, and thus, unlike conventional SAR, it does not require long illumination time of the target area. The reconstruction algorithm uses planewave approximation based polar format processing, which alleviates the requirement of positioning the receiving radars, which can cause grating lobes if not chosen properly. We derive a reconstruction algorithm including clutter suppression and discuss implementation issues, such as the resolution of a reconstructed image and the method of compensation for the irregularity of the receiving radars' positions. A simulation that validates the proposed algorithm is also shown.

In this paper, we propose a rotational motion compensation(RMC) for bistatic inverse synthetic aperture radar(Bi-ISAR) imaging. For this purpose, geometry-error, caused by changes of bistatic-angle, is removed using known position information of a transmitter, a receiver, and target trajectories. Next, RMC is performed to compensate non-uniform rotational motion error by reformatting radar signal in terms of a newly defined slow time variable that converts non-uniform rotational motion into uniform one. Simulation results using an aircraft model composed of ideal point scatterers validate the efficacy of the proposed Bi-ISAR RMC method.

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is widely used because of high resolution imaging capability in all weather and day/night condition. In this paper development of Spotlight SAR simulator is proposed for image quality analysis. Proposed SAR simulator is based on the SAR system design parameters so that SAR image performance can be expected which is essential throughout the full system development procedure from the initial concept design stage to the final in-flight calibration and validation stage. The raw data of ideal point target is first generated by taking account of the flight and imaging geometry and the various SAR system design parameters, and the Spotlight image formation algorithm is implemented in order to obtain the point target response. Finally the image quality of the generated raw data is analyzed in terms of spatial resolution, peak to sidelobe ratio and integrated sidelobe ratio.

In the field of automatic target recognition(ATR) with synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery, it is usually impractical to obtain SAR target images covering a full range of aspect views. When the database consists of SAR target images with limited angular diversity, it can lead to performance degradation of the SAR-ATR system. To address this problem, this paper proposes a deep learning-based method where channel attention modules(CAMs) are inserted to a convolutional neural network(CNN). Motivated by the idea of the squeeze-and-excitation(SE) network, the CAM is considered to help improve recognition performance by selectively emphasizing discriminative features and suppressing ones with less information. After testing various CAM types included in the ResNet18-type base network, the SE CAM and its modified forms are applied to SAR target recognition using MSTAR dataset with different reduction ratios in order to validate recognition performance improvement under the limited angular diversity condition.

The advent of deep learning-based algorithms has facilitated researches on target detection from synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery. While most of them concentrate on detection tasks for ships with open SAR ship datasets and for aircraft from SAR scenes of airports, there is relatively scarce researches on the detection of SAR ground vehicle targets where several adverse factors such as high false alarm rates, low signal-to-clutter ratios, and multiple targets in close proximity are predicted to degrade the performances. In this paper, a dataset of ground vehicle targets acquired from TerraSAR-X(TSX) satellite SAR images is presented. Then, both detection and instance segmentation are simultaneously carried out on this dataset based on the deep learning-based Mask R-CNN. Finally, this paper shows the future research directions to further improve the performances of detecting the SAR ground vehicle targets.
Purpose: In order to enhance the quality of IMRT as employed in Korea, we developed a remote monitoring system. The feasibility of the system was evaluated by conducting a pilot study. Materials and Methods: The remote monitoring system consisted of a head and neck phantom and a user manual. The phantom contains a target and three OARs (organs at risk) that can be detected on CT images. TLD capsules were inserted at the center of the target and at the OARs. Two film slits for GafchromicEBT film were located on the axial and saggital planes. The user manual contained an IMRT planning guide and instructions for IMRT planning and the delivery process. After the manual and phantom were sent to four institutions, IMRT was planed and delivered. Predicted doses were compared with measured doses. Dose distribution along the two straight lines that intersected at the center of the axial film was measured and compared with the profiles predicted by the plan. Results: The measurements at the target agreed with the predicted dose within a 3% deviation. Doses at the OARs that represented the thyroid glands showed larger deviations (minimum 3.3% and maximum 19.8%). The deviation at OARs that represented the spiral cord was $0.7{\sim}1.4%$. The percentage of dose distributions that showed more than a 5% of deviation on the lines was $7{\sim}27%$ and $7{\sim}14%$ along the horizontal and vertical lines, respectively. Conculsion: Remote monitoring of IMRT using the developed system was feasible. With remote monitoring, the deviation at the target is expected to be small while the deviation at the OARs can be very large. Therefore, a method that is able to investigate the cause of a large deviation needs to be developed. In addition, a more clinically relevant measure for the two-dimensional dose comparison and pass/fail criteria need to be further developed.
In order to obtain high resolution images, a focusing ultrasonic transducer operated in very high frequency (VHF) range was fabricated and its characteristics were evaluated. A 9-${\mu}m$ thick PVDF film with only one metalized surface for electric ground was adhered to a CCP (Copper-clad polyimide) film by using epoxy. It was pressed by a metal ball to form a concave surface and its rear side was filled with the epoxy. The radius of curvature and the f-number of the fabricated transducer are 7.5 mm and 1.7, respectively. The pulse-echo measurement results from a target located at the focal point showed that the frequency bandwidth was 35.0 MHz and the insertion loss near the peak frequency of approximately 40 MHz was about 60 dB. Those values agreed well with the simulation results by the KLM equivalent circuit analysis including the effect of the epoxy bonding layer. When the image of thin copper lines by the 35 MHz transducer of the UBM (Ultrasonic Backscattering Microscope) system was compared with the image by the transducer fabricated in this study, the fabricated transducer was observed that the axial resolution was improved although the lateral resolution was degraded.
