Despite that moderate hyperthermia can exert various antitumor activities such as direct cytotoxic effects on tumor cells, effects on tumor vasculatures and immunological effects, hyperthermia has been usually combined with radiotherapy or chemotherapy due to its limited efficacy in cancer treatment, showing some positive clinical benefits with generally well-tolerated side effects. Since heat shock responses itself can interfere with the anti-tumor effects of hyperthermia, not all of these studies might have demonstrated positive clinical outcomes in cancer patients. Therefore, the negative anti-tumor effect of hyperthermia should be reduced to enhance the effectiveness of hyperthermia. Although the responses to heat stress of tumor tissues containing vessels, immune cells, connective tissues as well as cancer cells, are very complicated, it is needed to study in the near future if some clinically available drugs, which can modulate heat stress responses, can improve the efficacy of hyperthermia in patients with cancer. In this review, the effect of clinical hyperthermia centered on non-invasive external hyperthermia using radiofrequency at moderate temperature will be discussed, since it is the state-of-the-art technology in the current clinical practice of hyperthermia, and a moderate operational temperature is used to increase the therapeutic effectiveness of conventional therapy without additional toxicity to normal tissues.

농림부는 지난 8월 3일 가축전염병 가운데 양.염소에 대한 정의를 농가를 포함한 모든 국민이 이해하기 쉽게 정비하고, 가축의 소유자 또는 관리자에게도 가축전염병의 신고의무를 부과하며, 병성감정 실시결과 인수공통전염병으로 확인된 경우 이를 질병관리본부장에게 통보하도록 하여 인체감염을 예방할 수 있도록 하고, 가축방역에 필요한 조치명령 항목에 면역요법을 추가하는 등 현행 제도의 운영상 나타난 일부 미비점을 개선.보완하여 개정법률을 공포하였다. 이 법은 6개월이 경과한 날부터 시행되며 개정전문은 다음과 같다.

Despite the availability of drugs effective in producing a bacteriological cure, tuberculosis presents continuing problems in its control, especially in the developing world. An effective immunotherapy to be used with chemotherapy is urgently required. Intradermal injection of a suspenison of killed Mycobacterium vaccae switches off the tissue-necrotizing component of the Koch phenomenon, and promotes cell-mediated responses to the common, putative protective, mycobacterial antigens. These properties led to the empolyment of the suspension in immunotherapy as an adjunct to chemotherapy in the treatment of both tuberculosis and leprosy. The evidence leading to these conclusions is reviewed.

생체내 기능조절에 중요한 역할을 하는 prostaglandins(PGs)는 신경계 세포, 순환기계세포, 거삭세포, 섬유아세포 및 암세포 등 여러 부위에 널리 분포되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 PGs생체내 전구체인 arachidonic acid와 구조유사체인 eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) 및 docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)에 의한 순환기계효과를 TXA$_2$ 생합성과 관련하여 규명하고져 하였다. 또한 여러 가지 면역요법 중 암세포 살해능이 있는 lymphokine activated killer(LAK) 세포의 생성력과 생체내 면역세포 중 암세포의 일차적인 방어작용을 하는 것으로 알려진 natural killer(NK) 세포의 활성도를 PGs생성과 연관시켜 검토하므로써 암환자에 저하되어 있을 면역기구와 PGs와의 상관관계를 규명하고자 하였다.

문헌에 의하면 대상포진의 원인은 바이러스에 대한 세포성 면역이 저하될 때, 또는 악성종양 등으로 면역억제제 치료를 받아서 2차적으로 면역이 저하될 때 체내에 잠재해 있던 바이러스가 재활되어 발병하는 것으로 추정하고 있다. 본 저자도 이에 대하여 의견을 같이하고 있는데 노령층의 $60\~70$대 여자환자수가 압도적으로 많았다는 점과, $20\~39$세 사이의 청${\cdot}$장년층에서는 단1명의 대상자가 없다는 점뿐 아니라, 본 대상자중 11세의 소녀는 7세때 뇌종양 수술을 2차례에 걸쳐 실시한 후 면역제제를 계속적으로 사용하는 있는 점 등은 문헌의 발병원인과 상당히 일치하였다. <전파 양식> 비말 감염 (droplet infection)으로 전파되며, 수두와 달리 전염성이 높지 않다. <잠복기> 잠복해 있던 바이러스가 언제 재활할지 알 수 없으므로 불명이다. 그러나 본조사에서는 대상포진에 대한 병력을 가진 사람이 없었고, 발생 원인을 본인 자신도 모르고 있었다. <합병증> Ramsay Hunt의 증후에 의하면 합병증은 외이도의 수포, 안면신경마비, 혀의 2/3부분의 미각상실, 간혹 청각 및 평행장애를 일으킨다고 한다. <치료> 대상포진의 대증요법으로 calamine lotion Burrow solution의 wet dressing 진통제 및 cytosine arabinoside나 adenosine arabinoside와 같은 항히스타인제, 최근에는 Acyclovir가 많이 사용되고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

많은 항바이러스제의 개발에도 불구하고, B형간염바이러스 감염으로 인해 간 이식을 받은 환자를 대상으로 한 재발 억제 치료 시 항 B형간염바이러스 면역글로불린(Anti-hepatitis B immunoglobulin, HBIG) 치료는 아직도 가장 중요한 약물요법으로 여겨지고 있다. 본 연구진은 간 이식 환자에서의 6개월 간의 약동학 연구를 통해, HBIG의 약동학적 파라미터와 이에 대한 영향인자를 확인하였으며, 이를 이용해 용법용량 별로 유지요법 시기에 목표 농도 도달 가능성을 예측하는 시뮬레이션 tool을 개발하였다. 그 결과 95% 환자가 목표 농도 이상의 HBIG 농도를 유지하기 위한 용량은 '목표 농도 ${\times}$ 20'에 해당하는 것을 확인하였으며, 다수의 대학병원에서 통상적인 HBIG 유지 요법의 목표 농도를 최소 300 IU/L로 하고 있음을 고려할 때, 6,000 IU의 용량을 월 1회 투여하는 것이 바람직할 것으로 판단하였다.

벌에 쏘인 부위에 된장을 바르면 벌침의 독을 가라앉히는데 나름 효과가 있다. 하지만 이런 민간요법을 맹신하거나 남용하는 것은 바람직하지 않다. 더구나 면역력이 약한 아이에게는 더더욱 조심해야 한다. 엄마들의 잘못된 의료상식을 소아과 전문의들은 이렇게 지적한다.

Radiotherapy is an irreplaceable method of cancer treatment. But it has several side effects, especially damages to the hemopoietic and Immune system. Therefore radioprotectors are required to treat cancer successfully. A lot of Herbs and Herbal prescriptions are reported to have radioprotective effects. Above all, those to support the healthy energy and strengthen the body resistance are found more effective. This study was performed to evaluate the radioprotective effects of prescription Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.), which consists of 16 kinds of herbs. We investigated proliferation of murine splenocytes, secretion of colony-stimulating-factors(CSFs), immunocompetence after irradiation in-vitro, and Endogenous spleen colony assay, survival assay in-vivo. When splenocytes were cultured with Shenrong Fuzheng $Tang(S.F.T.)(500{\mu}g/ml)$, proliferation was enhanced 5.7 times compared to control cultured with medium alone(p<0.05) and, showed highest proliferation at 4th day after incubation. In order to evaluate stimulation of hemopoiesis of Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.), the supernatant of splenocytes cultured with optimal concentration of Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.) was used to measure CSFs secretion. The result showed enhanced secretion of colony-stimulating-factors (CSFs) compared to control(p<0.05). To evaluate the protective effect of lymphocytes from irradiation, proliferation of splenocytes stimulated by LPS and ConA after incubation with Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.) for 24h Prior to Irradiation$(1{\sim}3\;Gy)$ was measured. The results showed higher proliferation of Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.) treated cells than that of non-treated cells. And percentage increases of irradiated splenocytes per non-irradiated splenocytes were also higher in Shenrong Fuzheng Tang (S.F.T.)-treated cells than control. Endogenous spleen colony assay. to evaluate the protection of hemopoietic cells from irradiation, showed increased number of colonies(p=0.03) in Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.) treated murine spleen$(10.3{\pm}1.9)$ compared to non-treated murine spleen$(3.4{\pm}0.8)$. Survival time of mice irradiated with lethal dose of ${\gamma}-ray(9Gy)$ was prolonged in Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.) treated group prior to irradiation as compared to non-treated group. According to these results we can suggest that prescription Shenrong Fuzheng Tang(S.F.T.) has radioprotective effects and can be used to protect the hemopoietic and immune system from damages of anti-cancer radiotherapy.

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effects of aromatherapy on headache, stress and immune response of students with tension-type headache. Method: This study employed a two-group pre-post test study design. Data was collected from 44 subjects. Twenty-two subjects were assigned to the experimental group and received aromatherapy massage every other day for 3 weeks, but the other 22 subjects were in the control group and did not receive any intervention. Experiment had been conducted from Apr. 9 through Aug. 25, 2001 and intensity of headache, stress response (serum cortisol, life stress) and immune response(T-cell and natural killer cell ratio) were measured in the course of aromatherapy for both experimental group and control group. Data were analyzed by using $X^2$-test, t-test, Paired t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. Result: Headache scores, serum cortisol levels and life stress scores were significantly decreased in the experimental group after treatment compared to the control group. Conclusion: These findings is suggested that the aromatherapy could be an effective nursing intervention in relaxing and relieving the pain caused by tension-type headache for students.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of aroma hand massage on anxiety and immune function in patients who had gynecology surgery under local anesthesia. Methods: The research design was a nonequivalent control group with pre-and posttest design. Data were collected from June 5 to October 6, 2010. Participants included 20 patients in the aroma hand massage group, 20 patients in a hand massage group, and 20 in a control group. As an experimental treatment, hand massage was carried out following the hand massage protocol. Measures consisted of the State Trait Anxiety, Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for anxiety, vital signs (systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate), and salivary cortisol for anxiety, and immunoglobulin A for immune function. Results: Aroma hand massage and hand massage group showed lower levels in NRS for anxiety, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and pulse rate (p<.001) compared to controls. No group differences were found for state anxiety, salivary cortisol and immunoglobulin A. Conclusion: The results indicate that aroma hand massage and hand massage are effective in reducing anxiety and can be complementary alternative interventions for women having gynecology surgery under local anesthesia.
