In this study, we compared and analyzed the performance of each Convolution Neural Network (CNN) by implementing the CNN that reflected the characteristics of the cerebral structure, in order to analyze the CNN that was used for the prediction of cybersickness, and provided the performance varying depending on characteristics of the brain. Dizziness has many causes, but the most severe symptoms are considered attributable to vestibular dysfunction associated with the brain. Brain waves serve as indicators showing the state of brain activities, and tend to exhibit differences depending on external stimulation and cerebral activities. Changes in brain waves being caused by external stimuli and cerebral activities have been proved by many studies and experiments, including the thesis of Martijn E. Wokke, Tony Ro, published in 2019. Based on such correlation, we analyzed brain wave data collected from dizziness-inducing environments and implemented the dizziness predictive artificial neural network reflecting characteristics of the cerebral structure. The results of this study are expected to provide a basis for achieving optimal performance of the CNN used in the prediction of dizziness, and for predicting and preventing the occurrence of dizziness under various virtual reality (VR) environments.

Seasickness not only makes persons on board vessels to vomit but also causes vertigo, headache, sleepiness, fatigue, lethargy and other discomforts. This ailment leads to disturbance of biorhythm and decline of perception which would eventually cause reduction of situational awareness among ship's operators that leads to marine accident. This study is about the sensitivity of people onboard ships to seasickness and focused on deck or navigation officer cadets(apprentice officers) and engine officer cadets(apprentice engineers) who have no previous experiences on board. It is conducted by using motion sensor that can measure ship's X, Y, Z-axis motions and through the questionnaire survey, and evaluated each students' degree of seasickness symptoms. Through this study, in same circumstance, we have known that there are different degrees of motion sickness for wheel house worker and engine room worker, It also confirmed that seasickness have high relationship with degree of hull motion and also, with cycle of hull motion. In addition, we have confirmed that Z-axis hull movement has higher relationship with seasickness than X-axis and Y-axis hull movements. This study aims to initiate additional researches about X-axis and Y-axis of the ship's motion which it expects to greatly enhance safety of wheelhouse and engine room personnel, ship's livability and comfortable sailing.
In this paper, it is proposed that the effects of simulator sickness due to scene movement in ship handling simulator can be measured by using center of pressure (COP) and a simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ). For experiments of simulator sickness, twelve participants are exposed to scenes movement from ship handling simulator according to three steps of sea states. During experiments, COPs for subjects are measured by force plate. After exposure to scenes movement, subjects describe their sickness symptoms by answering the SSQ. Throughput analysing the results of scene movement, SSQ, and COP, the relation between the simulator sickness and COP is investigated. It is suggested that formulations for SSQ score and COP with respect to sea state are obtained by the curve fitting technique, and the longitudinal COP can be used for measuring the simulator sickness.
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationship between cybersickness symptoms and visual function and to determine whether visual perception training is effective in reducing symptoms of cybersickness. The study subjects were healthy adult males who experienced the same virtual reality program for 15 minutes. Afterwards, the VR satisfaction score and cybersickness level were measured and classified into a comfortable virtual reality program viewer group (CVR group, 20 people) and an uncomfortable virtual reality program viewer group (UVR group, 20 people). Visual function test was performed on all subjects, and the vision therapy training program was applied to the UVR group once a week for 40 minutes 12 times, and then the visual function and SSQ questionnaire were re-evaluated. Subjects with diplopia were 55% in the UVR group and 5% in the CVR group, which was significantly higher in the UVR group, there were differences in stereopsis, exophoria, near point convergence(p<.01) and vergence function(p<.001) between the two groups. After vision therapy, changes in SSQ, stereopsis, near point convergence, and vergence function of UVR user group were positively changed(p<.01). Therefore, cybersickness symptoms are related to visual function, it seems that the vision therapy can be used as a way to alleviate the symptoms of cybersickness.

When a vessel is underway in a heavy weather, passengers and crew suffer from seasickness caused by ship motions such as pitch, heave or roll, or all combined Sickness induces drowsiness, dizziness, headache, stomachache etc, in extreme conditions, they are met with a serious trouble which is physiologically unrecoverable. It results in weakening of spiritual activities or making errors from decrease of motivation, dropping off skills, poor recognition and poor judgement. In this paper, it was examined the international standards concerning the occurrence of sickness and the execution of works, also evaluated the boarding comfort by conducting several times of questionnaire on cadets boarding on the training ship HANBADA As a result, it was confirmed that the main factor of occurring the sickness was the vertical acceleration and the level was more than 0.2g. Also, it was presented the way how to reduce the sickness by changing the speed and/or course in relation to the encounter period.
Though new body movement based input system immerged in Virtual Reality (VR), VR still has a visually induced motion sickness (VIMS) problem to be accepted for users. VIMS are caused by changes in visually perceived movement that discord with vestibular system's sense of movement. Not only Head-body movements, but also hand gestures to make commands and torso movement can affect visual movement perception by enhancing immersion and its psychological product; presence. The question arises does whole body movement and hand gesture to make commands are more dominant to arousal, presence, and VIMS? To address this question, we conducted "2 (IV1; head-body movements only vs. whole body movements) * 1" between subject design experiment. The results showed that significant effect on whole body movements and arousal, marginally significant effect on presence. Eyewear usage was a moderator between hand gesture and presence relationship.
This paper presents an interactive wind system that generates artificial winds in a virtual reality (VR) environment according to online user inputs from a steering wheel and an acceleration pedal. Our system is composed of a head-mounted display (HMD) and three electric fans to make the user sense touch from the winds blowing from three different directions in a racing car VR application. To evaluate the effectiveness of the winds for reducing VR cybersickness, we employ the simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ), which is one of the most common measures for cybersickness. We conducted experiments on 13 subjects for the racing car contents first with the winds and then without them or vice versa. Our results showed that the VR contents with the artificial winds clearly reduce cybersickness while providing a positive user experience.

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of motion sickness on pupil rhythm. Sixteen volunteers of both genders (8 male, 8 female, mean age $25.67{\pm}2.43$ years) experienced VR contents in both 2D and HMD versions for 15 minutes, and their pupillary rhythms were compared. The irregular pattern of the pupillary rhythms, as demonstrated by increasing mean pupil diameter (mPD) and standard deviation of the pupil diameter (sPD), revealed motion sickness after experiencing HMD condition. The pupillary response is strongly related to the cognitive load, and the motion sickness can be interpreted as a change in the cognitive load caused by the increasing volume of visual information that must be processed and the conflict or inconsistency between different sensory modalities. The method proposed in this study could be a non-contact measurement method for the monitoring of motion sickness using a web-camera rather than previous sensor-based methods.
