  • Increasingly advanced Information Technology (IT) has changed the operator so as to create more diversified and advanced traffic information demand. To deal with the changing demand in private sector, a concept of on-demand traffic information has been rapidly introduced. However VMS, a product of the first generation of ITS, which was designed to provide the unspecified individuals during driving the car with the basic level of traffic information by the public failed to actively change itself in such a changing pattern. This study was intended to describe the VMS system (tentatively, FM-VMS) which was further developed to accommodate the needs favoring the sophisticated PDA with the public role of providing the unspecified individuals with the equal information. FM-VMS introduced in this study is the device designed to transmit the voice and message to the drivers through the radio information device mounted on a car. A core technology is, unlike FM-DARC and RDS, the Water Making technology which directly inserts the digital signal into FM frequency in use. It's been currently used for broadcasting and security purpose. A detection rate as a result of testing FM-VMS system using Water Making technology was 90% or more in voice and message within 20m from test VMS. When a public-developed VMS information could be transmitted using FM frequency to the relatively vulnerable users (vulnerable to traffic information) in voice on a real-time basis to provide the regional traffic information, and furthermore, VMS message could be received through radio liquid using FM frequency only, it would obviously bring about the innovation in ITS as well as pave the way for creating the new added value down the road.

  • Recently, because of irregular power demand, we have suffered from an electric power shortage. The necessity of the adoption of smart grid which makes effective supply of power by using the two-way communication across the grid between the customers and electric energy providers is growing more and more. If smart grid set up in our country, the third-parties which provide services to customer using the information acquired from smart grid, might be revved up. In this paper, we suggest a methodology how classify the types of family by analysing an power consumption pattern using data mining technique. To make a classifier for categorizing the household types, we need power consumption data and their family type. However, it is hard to get both of them. Therefore we develop the simulator that generates power consumption patterns of the household and classify the types of family. Also, we present a potential for application services such as customized services for a specific family or goods marketing.

  • With the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT), various sensors are being embedded in wearable devices. Consequently, these devices can continuously collect data including health data from individuals. The collected health data can be used not only for healthcare services but also for analyzing an individual's lifestyle by combining with other external data. This helps in making an individual's life more convenient and healthier. However, collecting health data may lead to privacy issues since the data is personal, and can reveal sensitive insights about the individual. Thus, in this paper, we present a method to collect an individual's health data from a smart band in a privacy-preserving manner. We leverage the local differential privacy to achieve our goal. Additionally, we propose a way to find feature points from health data. This allows for an effective trade-off between the degree of privacy and accuracy. We carry out experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach and the results show that, with the proposed method, the error rate can be reduced upto 77%.

  • The market size of wearable devices is growing rapidly every year, and manufacturers around the world are introducing products that utilize their unique characteristics to keep up with the demand. Among them, smart watches are wearable devices with a very high share in sales, and they provide a variety of services to users by using information collected in real-time. The quality of service depends on the accuracy of the data collected by the smart watch, but data measurement may not be possible depending on the situation. This paper introduces a method to restore data that a smart watch could not collect. It deals with the similarity calculation method of trajectory information measured over time for data restoration and introduces a procedure for restoring missing sections according to the similarity. To prove the performance of the proposed methodology, a comparative experiment with a machine learning algorithm was conducted. Finally, the expected effects of this study and future research directions are discussed.

  • Live commerce, a rapidly growing sector, facilitates real-time interaction between streamers and consumers about specific products. This business model aids rational purchasing decisions by offering visual demonstrations of product usage. This study aims to identify potential uncertainties faced by consumers in live commerce and propose strategies to mitigate these uncertainties for streamers and platforms. A research hypothesis was formulated based on prior studies and tested through surveys conducted on consumers aged 20 and above with live commerce experience. The study revealed that a streamer's credibility (trustworthiness, expertness, and reputation) significantly impacts purchase intention by mitigating uncertainty. The platform's return policy also interacted with product uncertainty, influencing consumer purchase intention. These findings provide a roadmap for creating a tailored service strategy for live commerce platforms, focusing on reducing uncertainty in the product purchase process.

  • Purpose: A reliable indicator of congested traffic speed is essential in providing the information of traffic flow states about motorway sections. The aim of this study is to propose an adaptive indicator of congested speed which is employed for deciding the traffic flow states for individual motorway sections using disaggregated section-based speed data. Method: Typically, the state of traffic flow is categorized into the three: uncongested, mixed, congested states. A method, presented in this study, was developed for identifying boundary speed values of road sections through categorizing the three traffic flow states with individual vehicular speed values. The boundary speed state of each road segment is determined using the speed distributions of mixed and congested traffic states. Result: Analysis results revealed that boundary speed values between mixed and congested states for road sections were similar to those of US and EU criteria (i.e., 48.28~66.0 kph). This indicates that boundary speed values could be different according to road sections. Conclusion: It is expected that the method and indicator, proposed in this study, could be efficaciously used for providing ad-hoc real-time traffic states and computing traffic congestion costs for motorway sections in the era of big data.

  • This study analyzed valid samples of 707 units collected by conducting paper and online surveys on the Korean, the Chinese, the American, and the Japanese. The result showed that a significant causal relationship exists between power distance and pull motivation as well as collectivism and push motivation, which led to a conclusion that developing travel packages that can strengthen bonding of fraternal societies through various events and attractions is effective for respondents from Asian countries. On the other hand, Americans turned out to prefer practical plans, which could provide individual's needs and preferences, for example, a self-healing package. This study, using a simple survey, may have a limitation in that it does not allow the participants to express their opinions. However, the study is meaningful that it made a theoretical contribution utilizing Hofstede's cultural dimensions index, two types of motivation, and theories of customer satisfaction and revisit intention. It also has a practical implication in that it proposes the most optimal and applicable overseas travel marketing strategy by comparing cultural traits of each country.
