  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of various stressors among dual-earner families on parenting stress and marital satisfaction. Using a survey data collected from 168 dual-earner couples, this study investigated impact of various stressors, including husband division of labor, the satisfaction of childcare arrangement, husband's support on wife's outside work, family socioeconomic status, and strains from job. The finding suggested that, after controlling background variables(length of marriage, the number of children, and family income), high husbands' support on wife's outside work and low strains about their work hours had influenced on higher parenting stress among fathers, while high strains about their work hours had related to high parenting stress among mothers. It also found that high satisfaction on childcare arrangement and low depression were the factors predicting higher marital satisfaction of mothers, and high support on their wife's outside work, low work role strain, low depression, and low parenting stress had influenced on higher marital satisfaction among fathers. Discussions and recommendations for future research were added.

  • This study was conducted to investigate whether the parental sodium intake and the sodium intake of adolescents are consistent with each other, to identify factors affecting sodium intake of adolescent children, and to measure sodium intake at home. For this study, 405 subjects in the National Health and Nutrition Survey of 2015 whose sodium intake was measured among nutritional intake were selected, excluding elementary school students, middle school students and high school students aged 7 to 18 years. The data were then matched with the father ID and the mother ID in the youth ID. The results of this study were as follows: ${\beta}=-0.187$ for male adolescents, ${\beta}=0.192$ for older adolescents, ${\beta}=0.153$ for higher adolescents, and sodium intake for adolescents. This is because the mother usually prepares meals in Korea. On the other hand, it is predicted that parents will not be able to consider the quality of their children due to the increased number of dual-income couples.

  • Most cases of child abuse in South Korea are caused by parents in the family home. Currently, these types of incidents are growing. Child abuse creates irreparable damage to a child's development and its effects are prolonged. This damage can create a maladjusted adolescent and adult criminal acts. Because of this damage and the long lasting effects on a person and society as a whole, special attention needs to be paid to this pressing issue. South Korea's rapidly changing social environment has created a variety of new family forms including dual-income families and single-parent families. With the current economic downturn and accompanying employment instability, many families exist in uneasy financial and emotional states. The children in these stressful family environments are the most vulnerable and live in risk of experiencing physical or psychological abuse from their parents. In the context of significant and often difficult social changes, this study identifies the characteristics of child abuse based on family status and parental mental health.

  • As the ratio of double-income households and parental leave use increase, there is an increasing demand for products that help when raising children alone. In particular, there is a lot of demand for baby beds that help raise children without difficulty even by themselves. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a real-time monitoring of a smart crib using a sound sensor. The proposed bed uses a sound sensor to detect the child's crying and condition, and the measured sensor output value can be checked with a mobile application. When the sound sensor output value is more than a certain value, a voice file such as a lullaby recorded with the voice of the parents is played, and if the sensor output value is less than a certain value, the playing voice file is stopped. If the sensor output value continues to exist after a certain period of time, a pop-up notification is sent to the mobile application. This allows the child to quickly calm down with a sense of stability and comfort through the recorded voices of the parents, and the parents can remotely monitor the child's condition in real time.

The subjects of this study were 1,000 parents(mothers or fathers) or caregivers whose child range in age from 0 to 5. The questionnaire was comprised of Quality of Time-Extended Daycare, Parental Satisfaction of Time-Extended Daycare, and a demographic questionnaire. The data analyses used SPSS 20.0 which employs basic statistics, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses. The results of this study indicated a correlation between parental satisfaction and program(r=$.60^{***}$), safekeeping(r=$.56^{**}$), nutritious meals and health care(r=$.63^{**}$). Specifically, nutritious meals and health care could predict Parental satisfaction of the time-extented daycare.

  • This study aimed to empirically analyze the factors that influence newlyweds' housing tenure. For this, a questionnaire survey was conducted among newlyweds living nationwide who had been married for 5 years or less and were under the age of 40. The results of the survey were empirically analyzed by applying various variables. With regard to parental financial support among the factors influencing newlyweds' housing tenure, the analysis results showed that the probability of owner occupancy was high among the households with parental financial support than among those with none, and the larger the size of the parental financial support was, the higher the probability that the newlyweds owned the house they were occupying. As for the housing loan variable, it was found that the probability of owner occupancy was high among the newlyweds with a housing loan than among those with none, and the larger the amount of the newlyweds' housing loan was, the higher the probability that they owned the house they were occupying. As opposed to what is generally recognized, however, the survey showed that the higher the ratio of dual earners is, the lower the owner occupancy probability due to the probability of job transition, etc. In addition, it was found that the probability of owner occupancy for the newlyweds living in Seoul was lower than that for the newlyweds living in other regions in South Korea. Accordingly, this study showed that appropriate levels of parental economic indicators should also be reflected in the stable housing support and loan policies for newlyweds in the context that the succession to their parents' fortunes is generalized.

  • Purpose : We aimed to determine the ideal age for initiating toilet training and investigate the factors influencing the training. Methods : The study population comprised 1,370 children aged 2-6 years, who visited the pediatric clinics in Jeonju, Iksan, and Gunsan. Their parents were given questionnaires in order to gather data about the types of diapers used, ages when toilet training was initiated and completed for each day and night, its adverse effects, and the educational level and employment and economic status of the mothers. Results : The toilet training initiation age was low for those living in the country, having an elder sibling(s), and using cloth diapers, and for those whose mothers were employed and had a low economic status. The training completion age was 22.9 months when the training was initiated before the age of 18 months; this was lower than the training completion ages of 25.9 and 31.0 months when the training was initiated at the age of 18-24 months and after 25 months, respectively. However, the required durations in these cases were 8.4, 5.6, and 3.8 months, respectively. Encopresis and refusal occurred more often when the training was initiated before the age of 18 months than when initiated after this age. Conclusion : Toilet training should begin at least after the age of 18 months considering the developmental status of infants. It is recommended for the future researchers to develop specific guidelines regarding toilet training.
