The history of ginseng cultivation in Ganghwa area (강화 지역의 인삼 재배 역사)

  • Ginseng was first addressed ever in the medical record in HyangYakGooGupBang (鄕藥救急方), the oldest Korean medical book published in Kingdom of Goryeo (918-1392) when Ganghwa was the provisional capital city at the time. It is believed that ginsengs in Ganghwa were planted and cultivated from 1100s. Intensive ginseng production in Ganghwa began when Ganghwa became the special district of the Kaesong Ginseng Union (開城人蔘組合) in 1920s, this intensive production continued till the Korean War in 1950. After the Korean War ended in 1953, ginseng production was resumed. In 1967, Ganghwa Ginseng Association (江華蔘業組合) was founded. The total acreage of ginseng harvested was nearly 200 ha in 1967 and it increased to ha 900 in 1974. By mid-1970s, Ganghwa became the largest ginseng region in Korea by total production and acreage. Most of ginseng roots cultivated in Ganghwa are six years old. Ganghwa, which was already well-known for red ginseng productions, has become even more famous for ginseng production.

  • 한국가스공사(주)에서는 수도권의 천연가스 수요에 대응하기 위하여, 사진에서 보는바와 같이, 인천송도 앞 바다 8km 지점에 위치한 30만평의 인공 섬에 1993년부터 2000년까지 10기의 지상식 LNG 저장탱크를 건설하였으며 1998년부터 8기의 지하식 탱크가 건설 중에 있다. LNG 저장탱크는 다른 토목구조물과는 달리 초저온성과 고도의 안정성을 필요로 한다. 즉, -162$^{\circ}C$의 초저온 상태를 유지해야하는 보냉 구조와 가연성 가스에 대한 충분한 수밀성 및 안정성을 기본적으로 가져야 한다. 특히 지하식 탱크는 지상식 탱크 공사비와 비슷하며 주변의 경관 및 환경에 조화시키며 안정성이 높은 것이 특징이다.(중략)

  • 현재 용인시에서는 기흥 호수공원을 2010년까지 신갈저수지 일대 118만평에 여가와 문화, 휴양시설이 연계된 대규모 유원지로 조성한다는 계획을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 신갈호소 및 유입하천의 오염실태를 조사하여 호수공원 조성 시 기초 데이터의 확충 및 현황파악을 위하여 신갈호 및 유입하천의 모니터링을 실시 하였다. 조사결과 신갈호 및 유입하천의 지점별 수질 현황은 SS, COD, T-N, T-P 등 대부분의 항목에서 호소 수질 관리기준 $IV{\sim}V$등급의 수질현황을 나타내고 있었다. 본 조사연구 결과는 앞으로 호수공원이 조성되는 신갈호를 효율적으로 관리함에 있어 중요한 근거자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 판단되며, 수질개선사업의 수행 시 설계 인자로 반영 하고자 한다.

  • 파주시는 헤이리 예술인마을과 대규모 출판단지인 파주출판도시를 성공적으로 조성하여 세계적인 명성을 얻고 있는 건축 도시이다. 특히 "국내 건축의 흐름을 보려면 파주를 가보라"는 말이 나올 정도로, 파주는 우수한 건축물을 양산하는 지역이 되고 있다. 헤이리 예술인마을은 "예술인들이 꿈꾸는 지상에서 가장 아름다운 마을"을 기치로 하여 15만평의 부지에 주거와 미술관, 박물관, 공연장들이 어우러진 자연친화적인 마을이며, 파주출판도시는 "인간성 회복을 위한 공간의 창조" 라는 주제로 출판과 건축의 만남을 시도한 실험적이고 창조적인 출판 공동체이다. 이 두 커뮤니티는 건축이 중심이 되어 파주시의 도시 브랜드 가치를 높였으며, 또한 문화 아이콘으로서의 파주시를 전국적으로 널리 홍보하는 효과를 가져왔다. 이 두 커뮤니티를 관광하기 위하여 연중 많은 외지의 관광객들과 여행객들이 방문을 하고 있으며, 건축적인 가치가 실질적인 경제적 효과를 발생시킨다는 사실을 우리에게 보여주고 있다. 본지는 건축도시로서의 파주시의 시정을 이끌고 있는 이인재 파주시장을 만나 도시발전을 위한 계획과 건축행정 등에 대한 이야기를 들어보았다.

Spatial Demand Estimation for the Knowledge-Based Industries in the Capital Region of Korea (지식기반산업의 입지수요추정)

  • There is very high preference for the firms to locate in the Capital region, the City of Seoul and its surrounding areas, which inevitably meets diverse types of regulations to prevent over-concentration in Korea. In order to suggest an urgent need to reform these regulations, the demand for knowledge-based industries is estimated. A legit model is employed to estimate the demand of relocation of the current firms based on a survey conducted in 2001. A logistic curve is used to forecast the demand of new start-ups in Korea. The lands for industrial use only are estimated as many as 2.1 million~3.9 million pyung(1 pyung=3.3$m^2$) in nation-wide. Considering affiliate facilities and infrastructures, 3.1 million~5.9 million of industrial area should be developed in Korea for next five years. Since the rents are very high and the available land is short in the southern parts of Seoul, where most knowledge-based firms locate right now. Many firms have considered relocating on any other places where there exist a plenty of lands available and cheaper rents and cheaper wage rates, but still not far away from Seoul so that they could obtain new advanced information, skilled labors, venture capitals, and high quality of producer services. The Capital region, especially Gyeonggi and Incheon, is the only place to meet those conditions in Korea.

A Basic Study on development of Recycling-Industrial Park to Promote Recycling (재활용촉진수단으로서 산업단지조성에 관한 기초연구)

  • The aim of this study is to provide basic concept for recycling-industrial park, such as necessity of recycling industry, role of park, construction scheme, etc, in metropolitan area. For this study, questionnaire survey, examination of regulations and walk over survey on industrial parks were conducted. In metropolitan area, recycling industry made incomes of 445 billion won per year and supplied work place for 44 thousand persons. Based on present status and questionnaire analysis, waste recyclers had difficulties in securing factory site, impending the term of contract, NIMBY and proper treating a lot of solid wastes and wastewater, and construction of recycling-industrial park was supposed to be a tool to overcome those problems faced to waste recyclers. By considering the availability of existing industrial park, constraints of constructing new park in metropolitan area, potential recycling amounts and low opinion of moving in to parks, it is reasonable that Inchon-kanghwa district or Seoul adjacent district is potential sites, area for recycling-industrial park are within 640 thousand Pyong, and plastic recyclers are main invited item.

  • The 'Silt Pond' is 180 hectares in size and contained ultra soft slurry-like soil varying between 3 to 20 meters in thickness. Soil improvement work in the Silt Pond commenced by installing vertical drains in the mid of 1996, following completion of sand spreading up to +4.0m CD. Prior to soil improvement work in the main area of Silt Pond, experimental tests including laboratory tests with a large diameter consolidation cell and pilot tests were carried out to investigate the deformation behavior of an extremely soft soil. Due to its high compressibility, large strain usually occurred in the initial stage of deformation does not comply with Terzaghi's one dimensional consolidation theory. Taking into consideration experimental test results, the soil improvement works were carried out in main area of Silt Pond containing ultra soft soil. This paper presents the case study on improvement of ultra-soft soil.

Citizen Participation of the Million Amenity Park (100만평문화공원 조성을 위한 주민참여활동)

  • This paper is the study on the activity of citizen participation in the movement of Million Amenity Park's creation which was proposed by citizen participation for large scale's flat park within city. This park was proposed by the Busan Green Plan, commission study in 1999. The location of Park site was finally proposed at Dunchi-do, Bonglim-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan and neighbor areas. The area of park site is approximately 500ha included the surface area of West-Nakdong River. Citizen's organization for Million Amenity Park which has 3,500 members, was established in 2001 in order to compose Million Amenity Park The development processes of this study were found to have quickening period, germination period, the 1st growing period, and the 2nd growing period, and then the results of this activity was also arranged by the researcher of this study. The movement for this park was found to have a positive activity for participating and understanding all the citizens during 7 years. And then the activities for this park were as follows: every information, fund-raising campaign, organization, purchase of park site, contribution of purchasing park site to Busan city. The results of this study, through the movement of citizen's participation such as this park movement were 1) respectively found to have the settlement in the movement of NGO, 2) the possibility of large scale's park fostering by public and civil partnership, and 3) the model presentation of frontier park in the citizen participation's types which will be able to introduce the development of city.

A Study on the Land Demand and Supply System in the Capital Region of Korea (수도권 토지수요와 공급체계 분석 연구)

  • The demand of urban land in the Capital Region will be increased by the national economic growth of Korea. However, the available land for residential, commercial, and industrial should be limited in Capital Region, and the system of land supply for the urban land doesn't work effectively in the Capital Region. This research aims to forecast land demand in Capital Region based on the analysis of number of residents as well as housing units, and to suggest desirable land supply directions based on the analysis of land supply regulations and controls. This research concludes that it is demanded $293km^2$ of residential site for the construction of 1.27 million housing units by the year of 2010, and the change of land use from agricultural to residential is very restricted so that it may not supply urban land flexibly and appropriately. Thus, it is necessary to improve not only the system of land use controls but also cooperation among public agencies for the rational operation of land supply system.
