Design and Implementation of OCR Correction Model for Numeric Digits based on a Context Sensitive and Multiple Streams (제한적 문맥 인식과 다중 스트림을 기반으로 한 숫자 정정 OCR 모델의 설계 및 구현)

  • On an automated business document processing system maintaining financial data, errors on query based retrieval of numbers are critical to overall performance and usability of the system. Automatic spelling correction methods have been emerged and have played important role in development of information retrieval system. However scope of the methods was limited to the symbols, for example alphabetic letter strings, which can be reserved in the form of trainable templates or custom dictionary. On the other hand, numbers, a sequence of digits, are not the objects that can be reserved into a dictionary but a pure markov sequence. In this paper we proposed a new OCR model for spelling correction for numbers using the multiple streams and the context based correction on top of probabilistic information retrieval framework. We implemented the proposed error correction model as a sub-module and integrated into an existing automated invoice document processing system. We also presented the comparative test results that indicated significant enhancement of overall precision of the system by our model.

Realtime Facial Expression Recognition from Video Sequences Using Optical Flow and Expression HMM (광류와 표정 HMM에 의한 동영상으로부터의 실시간 얼굴표정 인식)

  • Vision-based Human computer interaction is an emerging field of science and industry to provide natural way to communicate with human and computer. In that sense, inferring the emotional state of the person based on the facial expression recognition is an important issue. In this paper, we present a novel approach to recognize facial expression from a sequence of input images using emotional specific HMM (Hidden Markov Model) and facial motion tracking based on optical flow. Conventionally, in the HMM which consists of basic emotional states, it is considered natural that transitions between emotions are imposed to pass through neutral state. However, in this work we propose an enhanced transition framework model which consists of transitions between each emotional state without passing through neutral state in addition to a traditional transition model. For the localization of facial features from video sequence we exploit template matching and optical flow. The facial feature displacements traced by the optical flow are used for input parameters to HMM for facial expression recognition. From the experiment, we can prove that the proposed framework can effectively recognize the facial expression in real time.

Prediction of Urban Land Cover Change Using Multilayer Perceptron and Markov Chain Analysis (다층 퍼셉트론(MLP)과 마코프 체인 분석(MCA)을 이용한 도심지 피복 변화 예측)

  • The change of land covers in 2026 was prediceted based on the change of urbanization in 1996, 2006 and 2016 in Seoul and surrounding areas in this study. Landsat images were used as the basic data, and MLP (Multilayer Perceptron) and MCA (Markov Chain Analysis) were integrated for future prediction for the study area. The land cover transition potentials were calculated by setting up sub-models in MLP and the driving factors of land cover transition from 1996 to 2006 and transition probabilities were calculated using MCA to generate the land cover map of 2016. This was compared to the land cover map of 2016 from Landsat. MLP and MCA were verified and the future land covers of 2026 were predicted using the land cover map from Landsat in 2006 and 2016. As a result, it was predicted that the major land cover changes from 1996 to 2006 were from Barren Land and Grass Land to Builtup Area, and the same trend of transition will be remained for 2026. This study is meaningful in that it is applied for the first time to predict the future coating change in Seoul and surrounding areas by the MLP-MCA method.

A development of multivariate drought index using the simulated soil moisture from a GM-NHMM model (GM-NHMM 기반 토양함수 모의결과를 이용한 합성가뭄지수 개발)

  • The most drought assessments are based on a drought index, which depends on univariate variables such as precipitation and soil moisture. However, there is a limitation in representing the drought conditions with single variables due to their complexity. It has been acknowledged that a multivariate drought index can more effectively describe the complex drought state. In this context, this study propose a Copula-based drought index that can jointly consider precipitation and soil moisture. Unlike precipitation data, long-term soil moisture data is not readily available so that this study utilized a Gaussian Mixture Non-Homogeneous Hidden Markov chain Model (GM-NHMM) model to simulate the soil moisture using the observed precipitation and temperature ranging from 1973 to 2014. The GM-NHMM model showed a better performance in terms of reproducing key statistics of soil moisture, compared to a multiple regression model. Finally, a bivariate frequency analysis was performed for the drought duration and severity, and it was confirmed that the recent droughts over Jeollabuk-do in 2015 have a 20-year return period.

Embedded Software Reliability Modeling with COTS Hardware Components (COTS 하드웨어 컴포넌트 기반 임베디드 소프트웨어 신뢰성 모델링)

  • There has recently been a trend that IT industry is united with traditional industries such as military, aviation, automobile, and medical industry. Therefore, embedded software which controls hardware of the system should guarantee the high reliability, availability, and maintainability. To guarantee these properties, there are many attempts to develop the embedded software based on COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) hardware components. However, it can cause additional faults due to software/hardware interactions beside general software faults in this methodology. We called the faults, Linkage Fault. These faults have high severity that makes overall system shutdown although their occurrence frequency is extremely low. In this paper, we propose a new software reliability model which considers those linkage faults in embedded software development with COTS hardware components. We use the Bayesian Analysis and Markov Chain Monte-Cairo method to validate the model. In addition, we analyze real linkage fault data to support the results of the theoretical model.

  • In this paper a novel medium access control mechanism is investigated as a means to support real-time services. The primary goal is to provide constant-bit-rate voice call services to pairs of autonomous mobile nodes operating in ad hoc networks. Here, a time-slot reservation based MAC is considered to provide real-time voice calls and a new MAC called the time-slot reservation coordination function(TRCF) is presented. In addition to this isochronous type MAC protocol development, the proposed protocol is modeled using a Markov chain in order to predict its behavior. The performance of TRCF is analytically derived and the performance measures such as average wait time taken for a call connection and throughput are obtained.

A Study on the Model for Determining the Deceptive Status of Attackers using Markov Chain (Markov Chain을 이용한 기만환경 칩입 공격자의 기만 여부 예측 모델에 대한 연구)

  • Cyber deception technology plays a crucial role in monitoring attacker activities and detecting new types of attacks. However, along with the advancements in deception technology, the development of Anti-honeypot technology has allowed attackers who recognize the deceptive environment to either cease their activities or exploit the environment in reverse. Currently, deception technology is unable to identify or respond to such situations. In this study, we propose a predictive model using Markov chain analysis to determine the identification of attackers who infiltrate deceptive environments. The proposed model for deception status determination is the first attempt of its kind and is expected to overcome the limitations of existing deception-based attacker analysis, which does not consider attackers who identify the deceptive environment. The classification model proposed in this study demonstrated a high accuracy rate of 97.5% in identifying and categorizing attackers operating in deceptive environments. By predicting the identification of an attacker's deceptive environment, it is anticipated that this model can provide refined data for numerous studies analyzing deceptive environment intrusions.

HMM-Based Bandwidth Extension Using Baum-Welch Re-Estimation Algorithm (Baum-Welch 학습법을 이용한 HMM 기반 대역폭 확장법)

  • This paper contributes to an improvement of the statistical bandwidth extension(BWE) system based on Hidden Markov Model(HMM). First, the existing HMM training method for BWE, which is suggested originally by Jax, is analyzed in comparison with the general Baum-Welch training method. Next, based on this analysis, a new HMM-based BWE method is suggested which adopts the Baum-Welch re-estimation algorithm instead of the Jax's to train HMM model. Conclusionally speaking, the Baum-Welch re-estimation algorithm is a generalized form of the Jax's training method. It is flexible and adaptive in modeling the statistical characteristic of training data. Therefore, it generates a better model to the training data, which results in an enhanced BWE system. According to experimental results, the new method performs much better than the Jax's BWE systemin all cases. Under the given test conditions, the RMS log spectral distortion(LSD) scores were improved ranged from 0.31dB to 0.8dB, and 0.52dB in average.

A Comparison Study of Model Parameter Estimation Methods for Prognostics (건전성 예측을 위한 모델변수 추정방법의 비교)

  • Remaining useful life(RUL) prediction of a system is important in the prognostics field since it is directly linked with safety and maintenance scheduling. In the physics-based prognostics, accurately estimated model parameters can predict the remaining useful life exactly. It, however, is not a simple task to estimate the model parameters because most real system have multivariate model parameters, also they are correlated each other. This paper presents representative methods to estimate model parameters in the physics-based prognostics and discusses the difference between three methods; the particle filter method(PF), the overall Bayesian method(OBM), and the sequential Bayesian method(SBM). The three methods are based on the same theoretical background, the Bayesian estimation technique, but the methods are distinguished from each other in the sampling methods or uncertainty analysis process. Therefore, a simple physical model as an easy task and the Paris model for crack growth problem are used to discuss the difference between the three methods, and the performance of each method evaluated by using established prognostics metrics is compared.

An Automatic Korean Word Spacing System for Devices with Low Computing Power (저사양 기기를 위한 한국어 자동 띄어쓰기 시스템)

  • Most of the previous automatic word spacing systems are not suitable to use for mobile devices with relatively low computing powers because they require many system resources. We propose an automatic word spacing system that requires reasonable memory usage and simple numerical computations for mobile devices with low computing powers. The proposed system is a two step model that consists of a statistical system and a rule-based system. To reduce the memory usage, the statistical system first corrects word spacing errors by using a modified hidden Markov model based on character unigrams. Then, to increase the accuracy, the rule-based system re-corrects miscorrected word spaces by using lexical rules based on character bigrams or more. In the experiments, the proposed system showed relatively high accuracy of 94.14% in spite of small memory usage of about 1MB.
