This study investigates the friction noise characteristic in relation to the corrosion of metal by using the frictional reciprocating and pin-on-disk system. From the experiments, it is found that the corrosion of metal advances the onset time and increases the magnitude of friction noise. Further, it is observed that the effect of corrosion on friction noise stems from the alteration of tribo-surface during repetitive frictional motion. The alteration of the corrosive contact surface induces a negative friction-velocity slope, by which the corrosion of metal can generate dynamic instability faster than non-corrosion of metal.
Based on the observation that Korean speakers of English have difficulties in producing English fricatives, a perception experiment was designed to investigate whether Korean speakers also have difficulties perceiving English labial consonants including fricatives. Forty Korean college students were asked to perform a multiple-choice identification test. The consonant perception test consisted of nonce words which contained English labial consonants [p, b, f, v] in 4 different prosodic locations: initial onset position, intervocalic position before stress, intervocalic position after stress, and final coda position. The general perception pattern was that the mean accuracy rates were higher in strong position like CV and VCVV than in weak position like VC and VVCV. The difficulties in perceiving the English targets resulted mainly from bidirectional manner confusion between stop and fricative across all prosodic locations. The other types of misidentification were due to place confusion as well as voicing confusion. Place confusion was generated mostly by the target [f] in all prosodic position due to acoustic properties. Voicing confusion was heavily influenced by prosodic position. The misperception of the participants was accounted for by phonetic properties and/or the participants' native language properties.
In this paper, I propose a new method of Multi-Pulse Speech Coding(FBD-MPC: Frequency Band Division MPC) by using TSIUVC(Transition Segment Including UnVoiced Consonant) searching, extraction and approximation-synthesis method in a frequency domain. As, a result. the extraction rates of TSIUVC are 84.8%(plosive), 94.9%(fricative) and 92.3%(affricative) in female voice, 88%(plosive), 94.9%(fricative) and 92.3%(affricative) in male voice respectively. Also, I obtain a high quality approximation-synthesis waveforms within TSIUVC by using frequency information of 0.547kHz below and 2.813kHz above. I evaluate MPC by using switching information of voiced/unvoiced and FBD-MPC by using switching information of voiced/Silence/TSIUVC. As, a result, I knew that synthesis speech of FBD-MPC was better in speech quality than synthesis speech of the MPC.

This study investigated the dynamic instability of a ceramic-on-ceramic artificial hip joint system through complex eigenvalue analysis. We examined the mode-coupling mechanism through eigenvalue sensitivity analysis with the variation of system parameters. In addition, we constructed a finite element model including the negative slope of friction curve for investigating the negative-slope mechanism in the hip squeak problem. The numerical results show that the torsion-dominant mode becomes unstable due to the presence of the negative slope while the axial load is the important factor influencing the negative-slope type instability.
The purpose of this study is to investigate phonetic realization of flap [r], one of the allophones of Korean /l/. Phonetic realization of a segment is affected by not only its neighboring segments but also its prosodic position in an utterance. This study examined how various prosodic positions affect the phonetic realization of [r]. Effects of the four prosodic positions on the phonetic realization of [r] were examined: utterance initial, Intonation Phrase initial, Accentual Phrase initial, and Accentual Medial positions. Word positional effect was also examined: word initial, medial, and final positions. Acoustic and statistical analyses showed that flap [r] was realized in a variety of phonetic forms: from sonorant(the most reduced form) to short stop(the least reduced form). It was shown that generally. word-initial position is stronger than word-medial position. It was also shown that in many cases, utterance-initial position and intonation-phrase-initial position are stronger than accentual-phrase-initial and accentual-phrase-medial positions. Sonorants were observed more often in the prosodically weaker portions. VOT duration was also shorter in accentual-phrase-initial and accentual-phrase-medial positions.

DSI(Digital Speech Interpolation)를 이용하여 침묵 구간을 검출한다. 이때 주파수 영역에서는 이 침묵구간을 잡음으로 간주하여 이를 이용한 스펙트럼 차감법(spectral subtraction)으로 음성 신호에 부가된 군중 잡음을 제거하는 과정을 거친다.
