A High Frequency Complex Modulation Method of the Electronic Ballast for Metal Halide Lamps (메탈 할라이드 램프용 전자식 안정기의 고주파 복합 변조법)

  • This paper presents an electronic ballast using a novel complex modulation method for the metal halide lamp. The proposed modulation method, which has a modulating signal of swept complex frequency, can eliminate the acoustic resonance more effectively than the conventional modulation method, which has a modulating signal of constant frequency. For the purpose of future application specific integrated circuits (ASIC). the controller of the proposed ballast has been designed only with erasable programmable logic devices (EPLDs), but without a microprocessor. In this paper, detailed proposed modulation schemes are described and experimental results on the proto type 150W metal halide lamp ballast with the proposed modulation method ate discussed.

  • This paper is to present a selected method of circuit parameters in the inverter part of the electronic dimming ballast fer fluorescent lamps, that is adffIuate to use with the prevailing dimming controller IC. Through the experirrent result using the prototype of the electronic dimming ballast rroduced by this rrethod, its validity is verified from the electrical and light outplt characteristics on fluorescent lamps. Also, it is feasible to rerrnte automatic and passive control for dimming electronic ballast as using a micrqrocessor, and we easily recognize the lamp condition owing to rmke a program indicate abnormal behavior for fluorescent lamp at PC screen.screen.

  • In this paper, a six degree-of-freedom robot arm which is very light but capable of delivering heavy loads was studied. The proposed robot arm has much higher load capacity than conventional robot arms actuated by motors with speed reducers such as the harmonic drive since a new type of robot actuator based on a closed chain mechanism driven by the ball screw was adopted. Analysis on the design scheme and on the mechanism of the joint actuator of the robot arm were made. Since the robot arm was designed very light, it has deflection in the links. To analyze this, a finite element analysis on the structure of the designed robot links was made using ANSYS software. Verifying experiments on the performance of high load capacity of the robot arm was performed by loading heavy weights on the robot arm. Through experiments. the correctness of the numerical analysis was also verified.

  • Recently, there are many home network applications using the convergence between mobile platforms and home network system. As smart phones which are called small PC in the hand becoming popular, the development of home network application beyond the one of cellular phones is required. Android mobile platform of Google includes OS, middleware and primary applications. Also, in addition to smart phones, it can be mounted on various devices such as set-top box and household appliances. In this paper, home network services on smart phones of Android platform are designed and implemented. The services provide real-time monitoring information (temperature, humidity, real-time video) of rooms and appliance control in a house.

  • The maritime mobile communication system has been changing to the new system that is facilitated by the radio telex, digital selective calling and maritime satellite communications from the old system by the radio telegraphy and telephone according to the GMDSS. The NBDP using the ITA No.2 code is a useful media in the maritime communications and provides the procedures of telex. Also it can provide the efficient and more useful functions and the solutions for the incremental traffic requirements by adopting the Hangul code. So, in this paper, we proposed the new Korean NBDP code for the ITA No.2 code, designed and implemented the algorithm which is the processing of the Hangul NBDP code using the microprocessor.

  • AE64000 is the 64-bit high-performance microprocessor that ADC Co. Ltd. is developing for an embedded environment. It has a 5-stage pipeline and uses Havard architecture with a separated instruction and data caches. It also provides SIMD-like DSP and FP operation by enabling the 8/16/32/64-bit MAC operation on 64-bit registers. AE64000 processor implements the EISC ISA and uses the instruction folding mechanism (Instruction Folding Unit) that effectively deals with LERI instruction in EISC ISA. But this unit makes branch prediction behavior difficult. In this paper, we designs a branch predictor optimized for AE64000 Pipeline and develops a AES4000 simulator that has cycle-level precision to validate the performance of the designed branch predictor. We makes TAC(Target address cache) and BPT(branch prediction table) seperated for effective branch prediction and uses the BPT(removed indexed) that has no address tags.

  • The three-phase full(6-pulse) bridge controlled rectifier is one of the most widely used types of solid-state converters in DC drive applications for higher performance. In most of the previous designs, the gate control circuits of the converter have been designed with analog method which can be easily affected by noise. Nowdays with advances of microelectronics and power electronics, microprocessor and pheripal LSIs are increasingly used for eliminating this problems. In this paper, a novel general-purpose microprocessor -based firing system and control scheme for a three-phase controlled rectifier bridge has been developed and tested. Using the phase relations between ${\Delta}$-Y transformer in power operation part, gate pulse of the converter is generated with real time process so that microprocessor may share its time to control algorithms efficiently. The firing angle of the converter is smoothly controlled in the range of 0 $^{\dirc}$ to 180$^{\dirc}$ with a fast respone and a constant open loop gain, even for the case where the converter is fed by a weak AC system of unregulated frequency. The hardware and software control circuit implementation built around a 80286 microprocessor is discussed, and the experimental results are given. This scheme uses less hardware components and has higher dynamic performance in variable speed DC drive applications.

  • In this paper, a novel low-power VLSI system architecture was proposed. By exploiting software control of supply voltages, it simplifies hardware implementation, reduces power consumption efficiently, and avoids complicated interface circuits. The proposed architecture models clock frequency-supply voltage relationship by software modelling, enables individual control of supply voltages for all chips in the system, and restricts clock frequency to discrete levels of $f_{CLK}$, $f_{CLK}$2, $f_{CLK}$3... where $f_{CLK}$ is the master clock frequency A prototype system was implemented by modifying off-the-shelf microprocessor evaluation board and adding simple discrete devices such as level shifters and voltage switches. It was measured that the power consumption was reduced from 0.58W to 0.12W in the Prototype system. system.

  • 수평 자세제어에 관한 연구는 플랜트 외부에서 발생하는 미지의 진동이나 불특정 외란이 인가되었을 때 이러한 외란을 적절히 제거하여 플랜트의 안전성을 확보할 수 있는 중요한 기술이다. 특히 수평 자세제어에 대한 문제는 선박이나 항공기 등 진동이나 미지의 외란이 발생하는 비선형시스템에 대하여 플랜트의 안전성을 확보하기 위하여 다양한 제어 알고리즘을 적용하여 진동 및 외란을 제거하고 있다. 본 논문에서 활용하고자하는 수평 자세제어용 액추에이터는 전자기적 에너지를 직선운동을 하는 기계적 운동 에너지로 변환하는 장치로서 산업현장에서 많이 활용하고 있는 액추에이터이다. 이러한 리니어 액추에이터(linear actuator) 3개로 구성된 3축을 활용하여 리니어 액추에이터 상부에 놓여진 플랜트의 수평을 제어하고자 한다. 또한 플랜트의 수평 상태를 계측하기 위한 센서로는 플랜트에 인가되는 외란을 계측하기 위한 가속도 센서 및 정확한 플랜트의 자세를 계측하기 위한 자이로 센서를 활용하여 플랜트의 수평 상태를 계측하도록 하며, 3개의 리니어 액추에이터를 제어하기 위한 마이크로프로세서를 기반으로 PID 제어기를 설계하여 리니어 액추에이터를 활용한 수평제어 성능을 제시하고 한다.

Design of UPS system using SMB Flywheel Energy Storage System (초전도 플라이휠 에너지 저장시스템을 이용한 UPS 설계)

  • This paper presents an off-line UPS using the high temperature superconductive magnetic bearing. FES(Flywheel Energy Storage) system has good advantages in compare with lead acid battery. So, high efficiency FES using high temperature SMB(superconductive magnetic bearing) was composed in this paper. The outer rotor type of PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) as motor/generator was used for the experiment, and square wave current and sinusoidal wave control methods was compared for high efficiency operation of motor/generator. The circuit for in phase sinusoidal wave current control with EMF in the full speed range was designed and the proposed flywheel energy storage system was applied in single phase off-line UPS system. As the stable operation characteristics of prototype system was confirmed, the its excellence as energy storage device in Off-line UPS was proved.
