  • The hybrid structural experiment decomposes a structure into independent substructures that can be tested or simulated. The substructures being tested or simulated may be distributed at different facilities of different locations, and are managed by the simulation coordinator. There exist interactions among the simulation coordinator and the substructures since they give and receive the commands and feedbacks during the experimental process. These interactions are described in this paper for an example hybrid structural experiment using the classes and objects in the Lehigh Model which is one of the data models for structural experiments. The simulation coordinator and the substructures have the objects for the interaction data files, and are linked together through the same types of the interface links. The objects for the interactions presented in this paper can be implemented in a consistent way, and be used for developing the computer system for the hybrid structural experiments.

  • This paper presents a novel scheme that quickly searches for the sweet spot of multiple array antennas, and locks on to it for high-speed millimeter wavelength transmissions, when communications to another antenna array are disconnected. The proposed method utilizes a modified genetic algorithm, which selects a superior initial group through preprocessing in order to solve the local solution in agenetic algorithm. TDD (Time Division Duplex) is utilized as the transfer method and data controller for the antenna. Once the initial communication is completed for the specific number of individuals, no longer antenna's data will be transmitted until each station processes GA in order to produce the next generation. After reproduction, individuals of the next generation become the data, and communication between each station is made again. Simulation results of 1:1, 1:2, 1:5 array antennas confirmed the efficiency of the proposed method. The 16bit split is 8bit, but it has similar performance as 16bit gene.

  • Despite the development of the Internet, both in terms of technology and coverage, there are still remote areas and scenarios where connectivity is very difficult to achieve. Pocket Switched Network is a network paradigm that takes the advantage of human mobility to disseminate data. Factors such as mobility of nodes, link failures, discharged batteries, are among the challenges that may compromise connectivity in these networks. This paper presents a performance analysis of existing routing schemes for PSN in terms of delivery probability, overhead ratio, average latency and average residual energy when the number of nodes is increased. We seek to identify a scheme that maximizes data delivery while minimizing communication overhead and thus extending the network lifetime.

  • In optical burst switching(OBS) networks, the ingress edge router assembles packets in the same class queue into the appropriate size of burst. A burst control packet(BCP) is generated for channel reservation of corresponding data burst and sent earlier than the corresponding data burst with an offset time. Offset time is determined considering the number of hops from source to destination and the required quality of service(QoS). After offset time, the burst data is passed through tile pre-configured optical switches without any O/E/O conversion. But a failure in OBS networks may lead to the loss of bursts until the ingress nodes receive the failure indication signal. This results in a significant degradation in QoS. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant node architecture based on sub-carrier multiplexing to reduce the effects of failure in OBS networks. The Performance of the proposed fault-tolerant node architecture exhibits considerable improvement as compared with the previous ones.

  • This paper suggests a method to implement a gateway model that enables an OPNET simulator to interwork with multiple real systems. In general, for two or more real systems to interwork with a simulator, the real systems need to be connected to a switch to form a link to the simulator. This method, however, is useful only when the models in the simulator represent the real systems that have transceivers and have no mobility. Otherwise, the method is not applicable for interworking of multiple real systems. A method to implement a gateway for the case is presented in the paper. The method includes modules that process packets transmitted via remote interrupts.

  • Satellite communication is a wide area network (WAN) which provides communication service worldwide. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to limited bandwidth, long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. In order to improve the performance of TCP, this paper proposes cross-layer Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. The proposed protocol sets TCP Congestion Window (CWND) size by using satellite resource allocation information exchanged between TCP and the link-layer. we implement PEP testbed based on Linux to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than standard TCP both in single and multiple sessions in variant BER, because the proposed protocol sets TCP CWND size by using satellite resource allocation.

  • Automatic Identification System used in ship communication is required for marine control way, including monitoring of vessel operation in coastal and exchanging of information for safety navigation between them. But, it uses a very high frequency band of approximately 160 MHz, and at the same time, due to the curvature of Earth, there is a limit to the communication distance. Several demonstrations were made successfully over satellite, but not much work has been done yet through cube-satellite which has low-orbit at 500 km altitude. Here, we demonstrate a reception test of AIS (automatic identification system) receiver for a cube-satellites using software-defined radio (SDR). We collected AIS data from ship at port of Busan, Korea, using R8202T2 SDR and established to transmit them using Adam-Pluto and Matlab Simulink. The process of weakening the signal strength to a satellite was constructed using attenuator. Through above process, we demonstrated whether AIS data was successfully received from the AIS payload.

  • Wireless sensor networks consist of numerous sensor nodes that have inexpensive and limited resources. Generally, most of the sensors are assigned to the hazardous or uncontrollable environments. If the sensor nodes are randomly assigned to the wide target area, it is very hard to see the accurate locations of sensor nodes. Therefore, this study provides an efficient key distribution scheme to solve these problems. Based on the provided scheme, the study enabled the closely neighboring nodes to exchange information with each other after securing safe links by using the pre-distributed keys. At the same time, the provided scheme could increase the probability of multiparty key detection among nodes by using the location information of sensor node. Lastly, the study intended to show the superiority of the limitation method through a performance test.

  • In this paper, a hierarchical link allocation algorithm between mobile stations (MSs) and the corresponding base station (BS) by an optimal utilization of relay stations (RSs) is proposed to improve throughput of RS systems. In the proposed hierarchical algorithm, each RS operates cognitive radio functions to sense the degree of satisfaction in the quality of services (QoSs) and then selects the candidate set of MSs to have links with the RS. Such information is reported to the BS, where an auction process is performed to get an optimal allocation of communication links between the MSs and the BS. To maximize system throughput, the proposed auction algorithm is conducted upon bidding prices of communication links, considering both the co-channel interference (CCI) information shared among adjacent cells and the QoS enhancement information for each MS collected from RSs. The BS then switches the communication links of the auction winner MSs through the corresponding RS. The computer simulation shows that the proposed algorithm enhances the user QoS more than the conventional algorithm, especially for RS systems with more users requiring higher QoS. The proposed algorithm has also been proved to have more robust performance than the conventional one when the traffic load is higher and the CCI becomes stronger.

  • Consumer Portal is defined as "a combination of hardware and software that enables two-way communication between energy service provider(ESP, like KEPCO) and equipment within the consumer's premises". The portal provides both a physical link(between wires, radio waves, and other media) and a logical link(translating among language-like codes and etiquette-like protocols) between in-building and wide-area access networks. Thus, the consumer portal is an important, open public shared infrastructure in the future vision of energy services. In this paper, we describe a new methodology for local communication and computer network capacity design of consumer portal, and also presents capacity calculation method using a network system limitation factors. By the approach, we can check into the limitations of existing methods, and propose an improved data processing algorithm that can expand the maximum number of the networked end-use devices up to $30{\sim}40$ times. For validation, we applies the proposed methode to our real system design. Our contribution will help electrical power information network design.
