The Effect of $H_2O/H_2S$ Concentration in the Coal Gas on the Desulfurization Performance of Zn-Based Sorbents in a Fluidized-Bed Reactor (석탄가스에 함유된 $H_2O/H_2S$ 농도가 유동층반응기에서 아연계 건식탈황제의 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구에서는 석탄가스에 함유된 $H_2O/H_2S$ 농도변화에 따른 세가지 종류의 아연계 탈황제의 반응성능을 회분식 유동층반응기에서 분석하였다. 가스화에서 생성되는 가스의 조성은 모사가스를 이용하여 입구의 $H_2O$$H_2S$ 농도를 변화시켜 실험을 수행하였다. $H_2O$의 농도는 5%부터 30%까지 $H_2S$의 농도는 0.5%에서 2%로 변화시켜 탈황성능을 분석하였다. 실험 결과 $H_2O$의 농도가 증가할수록 탈황성능이 감소하였다. 입구의 $H_2S$ 농도가 증가할수록 탈황반응기 후단의 $H_2S$ 농도 역시 증가하였으나, 탈황성능은 최저 99.5%로 건식탈황제를 이용하여 99% 이상의 $H_2S$ 제거 성능을 보이는 것을 확인하였다.

Microbial Desulfurization of a Bituminous Coal by Iron-Oxidizing Bacteria Thiobacillus ferooxidans (철산화 박테리아 Thiobacillus ferrooxidans에 의한 역청탄의 생물학적 탈황)

  • Microbial desulfurization characterlstics of a bituminous coal have been determined by using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. The effects of process variables (such as coal pulp density, particle size and addition of surfactants) on pyrite removal have been investigated in both shake and airlift-bioreactor culture experiments. In shake experiments, pyrite could be removed over 78% for pulp densifies below 20% (w/v) and removed below 40% for pulp densities over 30% (w/v) in 8 days. Pyrite removal decreased with increasing pulp densities, and it also decreased sharply with increasing particle sizes. In airlift bioreactor experiments, pyrite at 50% (w/v) pulp density could be removed about 50%. Its value is much higher than 15% at the same pulp density in a shake experiment. With addition of surfactants, pyrite removal was enhanced in shake experiments significantly, whereas it was slightly decreased in an airlift bioreactor experiment.

  • In order to analyze and compare the desulfurization characteristics of five different kinds of domestic limestons, a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) was used in this study. Calcium carbonate contents of the domestic limestone varied from 91 to 96 wt%. Experimental temperature and sulfur dioxide concentration of $850^{\circ}C$ and 2,750 ppm, respectively were selected to simulate commercial operation conditions. In this study, the calcination and desulfurization reaction of limestones were simultaneously occurred and investigated to simulate in-situ desulfurization reaction in commercial circulating fluidized bed combustors. In addition, desulfurization reactivities of limes having the average particle sizes of 37.5, 90.5, 159, 356 and $750{\mu}m$ were investigated. Desulfurization reactivities via simultaneous calcination and desulfurization reactions were 5-20% lower than those of using general desulfurization reactions.

A Study of Hydrodynamics and Reaction Characteristics in Relation to the Desulfurization Temperatures of Zn-Based Solid Sorbent in the Lab-scale High Pressure and High Temperature Desulfurization Process (실험실규모 고온고압건식탈황공정의 수력학적 특성 및 탈황온도에 따른 아연계 탈황제의 반응특성 연구)

  • In this study, hydrodynamics such as solid circulation rate and voidage in the desulfurizer and the reaction characteristics of Zn-based solid sorbents were investigated using lab-scale high pressure and high temperature desulfurization process. The continuous HGD (Hot Gas Desulfurization) process consist of a fast fluidized bed type desulfurizer (6.2 m tall pipe of 0.015 m i.d), a bubbling fluidized bed type regenerator (1.6 m tall bed of 0.053 m i.d), a loop-seal and the pressure control valves. The solid circulation rate was measured by varying the slide-gate opening positions, the gas velocities and temperatures of the desulfurizer and the voidage in the desulfurizer was derived by the same way. At the same gas velocities and the same opening positions of the slide gate, the solid circulation rate, which was similar at the temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$, was low at those temperatures compared with a room temperature. The voidage in the desulfurizer showed a fast fluidized bed type when the opening positions of the slide gate were 10~20% while that showed a turbulent fluidized bed type when those of slide gate were 30~40%. The reaction characteristics of Zn-based solid sorbent were investigated by different desulfurization temperatures at 20 atm in the continuous operation. The $H_2S$ removal efficiency tended to decrease below the desulfurization temperature of $450^{\circ}C$. Thus, the 10 hour continuous operation has been performed at the desulfurization temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ in order to maintain the high $H_2S$ removal efficiency. During 10 hour continuous operation, the $H_2S$ removal efficiency was above 99.99% because the $H_2S$ concentration after desulfurization was not detected at the inlet $H_2S$ concentration of 5,000 ppmv condition using UV analyzers (Radas2) and the detector tube (GASTEC) which lower detection limit is 1 ppmv.

  • 석탄가스화복합발전(IGCC) 시스템에서 합성가스 중에 포함된 황화수소($H_2S$)는 후단의 가스 터빈과 같은 장치의 부식을 방지하고, 합성가스를 이용하는 연료전지 등의 연계 공정에서 요구하는 수준에 맞추어 정제되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 $H_2S$ 정제공정 추가에 따른 IGCC 시스템의 효율저하를 최소화하기 위하여 고온고압에서 사용가능한 탈황제를 분무건조법을 이용하여 제조하고 제조된 탈황제에 대해 물성 및 황 흡수능 시험을 실시하였다. 형상, 내마모도, 평균입자크기, 충진밀도와 함께 제조된 탈황제가 적용되는 유동층 공정에 적합한 강도를 보유하는지 여부를 미국표준시험방법에 의하여 측정하였다. 황 흡수능은 열중량분석기를 반응기로 사용하여 모사 합성 가스 분위기에서 측정하였다. 분무건조 성형된 탈황제의 일부가 구형이 아닌 타원형 또는 도넛 형태를 나타내고 있어 형상 개선을 위한 제조방법 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 제조된 탈황제는 기공도가 65% 이상으로 macropore가 기공부피의 대부분을, mesopore가 비표면적의 대부분을 제공하고 있었다. 소성온도를 650 $^{\circ}C$에서 750 $^{\circ}C$로 증가시킴에 따라 대체로 강도가 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 열중량분석기로 측정된 황 흡수능은 약 10 wt%로 나타났다. 제조된 탈황제 중 일부는 유동층 공정에 적합한 물성을 보유하고 있었으며 반응성 또한 기존에 개발된 탈황제에 버금가는 성능을 나타내어 향후 공정 적용이 가능할 것으로 분석되었다.

Degradation of Dibenzothiophene, and Desulfurization of Crude Oil and Bunker C Oil by Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (황산염 환원세균에 의한 Dibenzothiophene, 원유 및 Bunker C 유의 탈황)

  • Dibenzothiophene, crude oil and bunker C oil were used in the microbial desulfurization experiments using thermophilic and mesophilic strains of Desulfovibrio and Desulfotomaculum. Mesophilic Desulforvibrio desulfuricans M6 showed the degrees of sulfur removal about 42% and 17% from dibenzothiophene and crude oil, respectively. Thermophilic Desulfovibrio thermophilus showed the degrees of sulfur removal about 68% and 33% from dibenzothiophene and bunker C oil. The strains of Desulfotomaculum were much less efficient than strains of Desulfovibrio. The latter have more complex and stronger gydrogen metabolism. These results showed that desulfurization is closely related to the hydrogen metabolism of the sulfate reducing bacteria.

  • For the recycling of coal ash from the domestic circulating fluidized bed boilers, a lime-based sorbent with 0.2~0.4 mm size was prepared by using limestone powder and CFBC fly ash. Mixing a small amount of slaked lime in the lime-based absorbent lead the formation of calcium silicate on the surface of the particle and the strength of absorbent particle was improved. As a result of comparing the desulfurization characteristics, it was found that the conversion rate was about 10% higher than that of commercially available limestone desulfurization used in the furnace, which is confirmed that it can be used as a desulfurization absorbent.

  • To evaluate the technical of microbial coal desulfurization during the storage in coal dumps, microbial pyrite oxidation in a packed column reactor with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans has been investigated. For microbial desulfurization in a packed reactor system, coal particle size over 1.0 mm with uniform size distribution seems to be most suitable as fas as drainage behavior and accessability of pyrite are concerned. When coal samples of 1∼2 and 2∼4 mm particle size were size were used, about 32∼42% of pyritic sulfur was removed within 70 days. The rate of pyritic sulfur oxidation was in the range of 348∼803 mg S/kg coal ·d, and the sulfur removal rates in packed columns were about 15∼25% of those in suspension cultures. Without any circulation of liquid medium, microbial coal desulfurization could be possible by the inoculation of T. ferrooxidans along on the coal dump. It was concluded that a microbial percolation process is one of possible processes for the desulfurization of high sulfur coal during a long-term storage.

  • This study investigated that status of domestic and international furnace desulfurization and desulfurization characteristics of limestone for fluidized bed use depending on the technology for CFBC one of the CCPs. Limestone-based desulfurizing agent is one of the superior elements which are optimal at around $850-950^{\circ}C$ on high temperature desulfurization. And effectiveness of desulfurization process can be determined by the desulfurization experiment method such as diffusion reaction of the diaphragm of the absorber surface, the size of the particles, the pores of the quantity, size and structure. And, desulfurization efficiency depending on geological and crystallographic properties and calcination process of limestone needs additional research in the future.

  • B화력발전소 3호기의 배가스를 플라즈마를 이용한 탈황/탈질 동시처리기술에 적용하기 위하여 pilot-plant를 설치하고 실 배가스를 이용한 동시처리 실험을 시행하여 배가스 인입온도 $90^{\circ}C$에서 $NH_3$$SO_2$와 NOx에 대하여 0.65당량, $C_2$$H_4$를 NOx에 대하여 0.6 당량 주입하고 비전력량을 3~4 Whr/N㎥로 배가스에 인가하면, 탈황율 90%, 탈질율 70% 이상이 얻어지는 것을 확인하였다.
