Study on the Design Optimization to Improve Injection Molding Performance of Plastic Regulator Rail (플라스틱 레귤레이터 레일 성형 최적화연구)

  • Injection molding product is commonly used for reducing the weight of automotive vehicle, and door regulator guide rail with plastic material is also made by injection molding process. In order to improve the injection molding performance of plastic regulator guide rail, optimal molding condition is suggested by numerical simulation and DOE after obtaining the sensitivity of parameters for regulator rail manufacturing on warpage and fill time. Furthermore, multi direct gate method and optimal cooling circuit are introduced to get the uniform temperature distribution and better cooling efficiency in molding product. The effect of the proposed design on the injection molding performance is verified by the test of prototype of plastic regulator guide rail.

An Application of CAE in the Decision of Optimum Runner Size in Injection Molding (사출성형에서 런너 크기의 최적화를 위한 CAE 적용)

  • The delivery system such as sprue, runner and gate is a waste of resin in injection molding operation. In this study the reduction of runner size has been investigated using injection molding CAE softwares, Moldflow and Moldex, and commercial CFD Softwares, Fluent and Polyflow. To verify the computational results experiment was performed. There were three considerations in deciding optimal runner size in this study: minimum pressure at the gate that makes resin fully filled in the cavity, minimum runner size that compensates shrinkage of resin in the cavity, and frozen layer thickness formed in the runner during injection. Through the computer simulations the optimal runner size that satisfies those three considerations has been decided. Although the computational results among the softwares were slightly different, it was enough to predict, the optimal runner size. The previous runner diameter was 8 mm and predicted optimal size was 5 mm. This was verified by injection molding experiment. Thus, the way of CAE application in deciding optimal runner size adapted in this study would be appropriated.

  • This paper deals with the design, manufacturing and test evaluation of a hydrostatic bearing applied to a hydraulic model turbine. The design parameters of a hydrostatic bearing, considering machining and assembly tolerances, and recommended values of design parameters are presented. Also the simple design procedure of a hydrostatic bearing by utilizing the reference results is proposed. In order to illustrate the utility and validity of the proposed design procedure, two hydrostatic bearings are manufactured and test evaluation of these bearings are performed. In results, the proposed design procedure can be utilized as an effective tool at the initial design screen of a hydrostatic bearing. However, the 2D bearing governing equation should be solved to obtain the optimal design of a hydrostatic bearing.

  • Injection pressure is one of factors that influence part quality. In this paper, injection pressure was minimized by optimizing valve gate locations. In order to perform design optimization, MAPS-3DTM (Mold Analysis and Plastic Solution-3D) was used for injection mold analysis and PIAnOTM (Process Integration, Automation and Optimization) was used as process integration and design optimization. Also we adapted meta models based on design of experiments for efficiency. By using introduced methodology, we were able to obtain a result so that maximum injection pressure reduced by 28% compared to the initial design. And the validity of the proposed method could also be demonstrated.

  • Injection molding is the most commonly used process that uses plastic material. Today, the uses of plastic material are continuously increasing, and the range of application is also being extended by the development of novel materials. An inline skate consists of 4 components: the boot, frame, wheel and brake. Among these components, the frame is the most critical. The injection formability for a variety of injection materials for inline skate frames was studied. We also studied the injection formability of the product for various sizes of the runner and gate. In this study, injection molding analysis was performed using MOLDFLOW, and structural analysis was performed using ANSYS.

  • Using computer simulation, the processibility and properties of the inst겨ment panel of automobile produced by gas injection molding were predicted and evaluated. The P-V-T data of ABS, resin were used in the gas injection molding process in order to estimate the mold filling phenomena. The optimum process conditions were found by adjusting the process parameters including pressure, filling time, the positions of gas channel and runner. The process was simplified and the final instrument panel produced by the gas injection molding was found to have improved dimension stability compared to the one produced by conventional injection molding.

  • Usually, the die-cast components used in small mobile devices require finishing processes, such as computer numerically controlled coating. In such cases, porosity is the most important defect. The shape of the molten aluminum that passes through the runner and gate in a mold is the one of the factors that influences gas porosity. To define the spurt index, which numerically indicates the shape of molten aluminum after the gate, Reynolds number and Ohnesorge number are used. Before die fabrication, computer-aided engineering analysis is performed to optimize the filling pattern. Finally, X-ray and surface inspection are performed after casting and machining to evaluate how the spurt index affects porosity and other product parameters. Based on the results obtained herein, a new gating system design process is suggested.

Overwinter and Survival of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Glomerella cingulata in Soil and Plant Debris of Strawberry (딸기 병걸린 식물잔재물과 토양에서 탄저병균 Colletotrichum gloeosporioides와 Glomerella cingulata의 월동과 생존)

  • The overwinter and survival of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Glomerella cingulata in strawberry tissues under field conditions was investigated in 2001 and 2002. The rates of overwinter survival in plant petiole, runner and crown were 68.7,14.3, and 26.7%, respectively. But, under field condition, viable conidia of overwinter were not detected at the surface, 3, 5, and 10 cm depths of soil. To investigate the survival ability in soil and plant debris, C. gloeosporioides and G. cingulata isolates from strawberry were examined in laboratory and field. The viability of conidia was rapidly declined in all the treatments, with a 40% reduction in population within 10 days. In soil, the survival ability of G. cingulata conidia was similiar to that of C. gloeosporioides. The survival rate of conidia was highest under cool and dry soil conditions, and was decreased by increasing both soil temperature and moisture content. Similar results were also obtained under the condition that infected petioles were buried in soil. Results suggested that conidia as well as plant debris might be a main primary inoculum source of strawberry anthracnose.

Investigation of the Filling Unbalance and Dimensional Variations in Multi-Cavity Injection Molded Parts (다수 캐비티의 사출성형품에서 충전의 불균형과 성형품 치수 편차의 교찰)

  • Small injection molded articles such as lens and mobile product parts are usually molded in multi-cavity mold. The problem occurring in multi-cavity molding is flow unbalance among the cavities. The flow unbalance affects the dimensions and physical properties of molded articles. First of all, the origin of flow unbalance is geometrical unbalance of the delivery system. However, even the geometry of the delivery system is well balanced, cavity unbalance occurs. This comes from the temperature distributions in the cross-section of runner. Temperature distribution depends upon injection speed because heat generation near runner wall is high at high injection speed. Among the operational conditions, injection speed is the most significant process variable affecting the filling unbalances in multi-cavity injection molding. In this study, experimental study of flow unbalance has been conducted for various injection speeds and materials. Also, the filling unbalances were compared with CAE results. The dimensions and weights of multi-cavity molded parts were examined. The results showed that the filling unbalances vary according to the injection speeds and resins. Subsequently, the unbalanced filling and pressure distribution in the multi-cavity affect the dimensions and physical states of molded parts.

Influence of Incorporation Rates of Sulfur on Reduction of the Bicarbonate Injury in Hydroponic Cultivation of 'Ssanta' Strawberry (유황 처리수준이 '싼타' 딸기의 중탄산 피해 경감에 미치는 영향)

  • This research was conducted to determine the influence of incorporation levels of sulfur into a coir dust+pine bark medium (1:1, v/v) on the changes in the bicarbonate ($HCO_3{^-}$) concentrations and pH of soil solution, crop growth, and nutrient uptake of 'Ssanta' strawberry. In the preparing of the mixed medium, sulfur powder was added with the rate of 0 (control), 0.23, 0.45, 0.90, and $1.80g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and Hoagland nutrient solution containing $240mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ $HCO_3{^-}$ was supplied during the crop cultivation. The growth measurements and tissue analysis for the determination of nutrient contents were carried out 140 days after solution application and the soil solution analysis was performed every two weeks. As the level of sulfur was elevated, the overall growth of mother plants became better showing that the growth indexes except chlorophyll contents were the lowest in control treatment but the statistical differences were not found among the three treatments of $0.45g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ or higher sulfur. The higher the levels of sulfur incorporation, the higher the occurrence of runners and the growth of daughter plants. The length of the runners and the number of daughter plants occurred per mother plants were higher in the treatments of 0.90 and $1.80g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ than the three treatments of 0, 0.23, and $0.45g{\cdot}L^{-1}$, but the statistical differences were not observed between the 0.90 and $1.80g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ treatments. The rose of pH and $HCO_3{^-}$ concentrations in soil solution of root media continued all the cropping period, but those decreased slightly in the treatments of $0.90g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ or higher. The soil solution concentrations of $K^+$ and $PO_4{^3-}$ in the treatments of 0.90 and $1.80g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ was lower than those in other treatments and the statistical differences in the $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ concentrations were not observed among all treatments. The nutrient contents in tissue analyzed in this experiment were the lowest in the control treatments and those increased as incorporation rates of sulfur were elevated. Above results indicated that when 'Ssanta' strawberry is grown hydroponically and the root medium is coir dust and the pine bark (5:5, v/v) mix, the sulfur incorporation rate as pre-planting fertilizer has to be higher than $0.9g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ root medium to reduce the $HCO_3{^-}$ injury.
