We derive a modified version of the cubic convolution scaler to enlarge or reduce the size of digital image with arbitrary ratio. To enhance the edge information of the scaled image and to obtain a high-quality scaled image, the proposed scaler is applied along the direction of an edge. Since interpolation along the direction of an edge has to process nonuniformly sampled data, the kernel of the cubic convolution scaler is modified to interpolate the data. The proposed scaling scheme can be used to resize pictures in various formats in a transcoding system that transforms a bit stream compressed at one bit rate into one compressed at another bit rate. In many applications, such as transcoders, the resolution conversion is very important for changing the image size while maintaining high quality of the scaled image. We show experimental results that demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed interpolation method. The proposed scheme provides clearer edges, without artifacts, in the resized image than do conventional schemes. The algorithm exhibits significant improvement in the minimization of information loss when compared with the conventional interpolation algorithms.

When a digital filter implementation is based on a difference equation, the frequency characteristics cannot be obtained by direct computation, but be obtained by experiment or analogized by Z-transform. In this paper, the method to compute the frequency magnitude response of the function expressed in a difference equation is derived from PARSEVAL's relation. To verify the validity of this new method two types of digital filters are implemented. Both filters' characteristics are measured and their values are compared with the value obtained by a Z-transform and with the value by a difference equation. The result shows that the measured values and the values obtained by the difference equaton are more closer than the values by a Z-transform. And the difference-equaton-based filters' showed sharper roll off characteristics than the Z-transform-based filters. Therefore when a digital filter implementation is based on a difference equation, the characteristics computation by a difference equation predicts better practical results than based on Z-transform.
There are many types of interchangeable zoom lens in the digital single lens reflex camera and the compact digital still camera system in order to meet various specifications such as the field angle. Thus special cases for which the focus adjustment using only an auto-focus group is not available in the focal point correction (that is, the focus adjustment) of both wide and tele-zoom positions are sometimes generated. In order to make each BFL(back focal length, BFL) coincide at wide and tele-zoom positions with each designed BFL, focus adjustment processes must be performed at least in these two points within the zoom lens system. In this paper, we propose a method of focus adjustment by using the concept of focus sensitivity, and we calculate a limit on focus adjustment distance by means of statistical analysis.

Nowadays, as it goes on digitalization of the broadcasting and the convergence of the broadcasting and communications , it has been developed into the ubiquitous individual media consuming pattern which can easily and comfortably consume the favorite contents through any devices at anytime and/or anywhere. For this, in this paper, we propose personalized broadcasting service that can provide a convenient access of the contents that users want to watch at anytime by considering the user preference and consumption characteristics as well as an efficient browsing and watching of the particular program segments more advanced than the data broadcasting services. Moreover, it is implemented the TV-Anytime standard based on personalized broadcasting terminal platform by us. The developed services and terminal will used on broadcasting environment in which many services and the contents. The result of that is the broadcasters/service providers and content providers can provide differential broadcasting services which is suitable to each user such as personalized broadcasting service in near future.
In this paper, a discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) DC-DC buck converter is presented for mobile device applications. The buck converter consists of compensator for stable operations, pulse-width modulation (PWM) logic, and power switches. In order to achieve small hardware form-factor, the number of off-chip components should be kept to be minimum, which can be realized with simple and efficient frequency compensation and digital soft start-up circuits. Burst-mode operation is included for preventing the efficiency from degrading under very light load condition. The DCM DC-DC buck converter is fabricated with 0.18-um BCDMOS process. Programmable output with external resistors is typically set to be 1.8V for the input voltage between 2.8 and 5.0V. With a switching frequency of 1MHz, measured maximum efficiency is 92.6% for a load current of 100mA.

An analog array with a 1.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$ double poly floating gate transistor has been developed with a standard CMOS fabrication process. The programming of each cell by means of an efficient control circuit eliminates the unnecessary erasing operation which has been widely used in conventional analog memories. It is seen that the path of the signal for both the programming and the reading is almost exactly the same since just one comparator supports both operations. It helps to eliminate the effects of the amplifier input-offset voltage problem on the output voltage for the read operation. In the array, there is no pass transistor isolating a cell of interest from the adjacent cells in the array. Instead of the extra transistors, one extra bias voltage, Vmid, is employed. The experimental results from the memory shows that the resolution of the memory is equivalent to the information content of at least six digital cells. Programming/erasing of each cell is achieved with no detectable disturbance of adjacent cells. Finally, the unique shape of the injector structure in a EEPROM is adopted as a cell of analog array. It reduces the programming voltage below the transistor breakdown voltage without any special fabrication process.
This paper deals with the development of Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV) that can mea~ure the tlequency and amphlude of the ultrasonic vibralion. Hc-Ne laser (632.8 om) is used as a light source, and Michelson interferometer in winch frequency of the objective beam is shIfted by Bragg cell IS adopted The frequency modulated signal centered at 40 MHz flom the PIN diode IS amplified. down-col1vel1ed to 2.5 MHz, filtered and digiLized. The voltage output that is proportional to the velocity of the vibratwg surface is obtawed using digItal PLL. A microprocessor is used to extract the frequcncy aud amplitude of the vibratIOn from the voltage output. It is found that the developed LDV can measure up to 300 kHz vibratIOn and the mlillmUITI measurable amplitude is I nm at 300 kHz. We believe thatlhis LDV can be used to measure the vibratIOn of the heavy electric maclllnery and micro-size structures. tures.
A virtual science experience space(VSES) using virtual reality technology including haptic device is proposed to overcome limits which the existing science education has and to improve the effect of it. Four example scientific worlds such as Micro World, Friction World, Electromechanical World and Macro World are demonstrated by the developed VSES. Van der Waals forces in Micro World and Stick-Slip friction in Friction World, the principle of induction motor and power generator in Electromechanical World and Coriolis acceleration that is brought about by relative motion on the rotating coordinate are modeled mathematically based on physical principles. Emulation methods for haptic interface are suggested. The proposed VSES consists of haptic device, HMD or Crystal Eyes and a digital computer with stereoscopic graphics and GUI. The proposed system is believed to increase the realism and immersion for user.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a data acquisition system with a large number of multi-channels for manufacturing machine. The system having a throughput of 800-ch analog signals has been designed with Quartus II tool and Cyclone II FPGA. The proposed system is suitable for the large scale data handling in order to distinguish whether the operation is correct or not. The designed system is composed of a control unit, voltage divider and USB interface. To reduce the data throughput, we utilized an algorithm which can extract the same data from the achieved data. The test results of the system adapted to a manufacturing machine, show a relevant data acquisition operation of 800 channels in short time.
As digital twin technology is applied to various industrial fields, technologies to effectively process large amounts of data are required. In this paper, we discuss a customized service method for fast search and effective delivery of large-scale data for underground facility for public utilities management. The proposed schemes are divided into two ways: a fast search data generation method and a customized information service segmentation method to efficiently search and abbreviate vast amounts of data. In the high-speed search data generation, we discuss the configuration of the synchronization process for the time series analysis of the sensors collected in the underground facility and the additional information method according to the data reduction. In the user-customized service method, we define the types of users in normal and disaster situations, and discuss how to service them accordingly. Through this study, it is expected to be able to develop a systematic data generation and service model for the management of underground utilities that can effectively search and receive large-scale data in a disaster situation.
