  • Libraries are founded to ensure the intellectual freedom of citizens, and citizens have the right to confidentiality regarding their needs, information access, and information use. Protecting users' privacy is critical to safeguarding their freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and freedom of assembly. Libraries and librarians should seriously concern themselves with their users' privacy because protecting this privacy is part of their most important mission, and, in doing so, users can truly enjoy their intellectual freedom. This study extensively investigated and analyzed the possibility of privacy invasion that may occur in libraries. As a result, cases of potential invasion of privacy in libraries were summarized in the following three categories: violations occurring in the process of national or law agencies' enforcement operations; violations occurring in the process of routine library services such as circulation, reference, online searching etc.; and violations occurring by outsourcing library services.

  • This study examined how users use smart speakers in cooking situations. Skilled and unskilled participants cooked a new recipe while following voice instructions delivered by a smart speaker. The results from video recordings of their cooking, think-aloud protocols, and interviews showed that the smart speakers freed users' hands, allowing them to cook while checking recipes. The lack of visual information did not pose a serious challenge to the cooking task, but impacted cooking quality. The implications for VUI-based recipe service designs are discussed.

Towards this end, we have surveyed the K University students on their personality types and preferred resources and services, and also attempted to explore the possibility of providing customized information services of university libraries according to the MBTI personality type based on the results. As a result of the study, it turned out that there was a significant difference in the preference of digital contents type in the analysis of the data type preference and the quadrant type through the analysis of attitude index type from validating the difference between data / information source and service preference according to the MBTI type. The analysis of 16 types of personality also demonstrated a significant difference in the perception of digital contents. Accordingly, In order to provide services for data and digital contents suitable for personality types in university libraries, it should be preceded by collecting MBTI personality type data for users in the library. After that, when a user requests a reference information service from a library, or requests a book or information, it is necessary to provide a form-specific service or provide a content-specific service.

  • Stock information applications allow users to look up and find current stock information whenever and wherever. This study researched what kind of user experience the finance experts get when using these applications and what they suggest. The research was conducted through an in-depth interview of 8 finance experts, who worked minimum of three years, and used both Kakao Stock and JeungGwon Tong, the most used stock information applications, for a minimum duration of six months. The results show the user experience of Kakao Stock rated a bit higher than JeungGwon Tong. Since the objective of such applications are to show stock informations, the experts all rated the pleasurable and meaningful aspects rather low. They suggested, the developers should provide a more advanced and accurate information. They also suggested user interest recognized content be presented along with more convenient user interface to elevate usability. Hopefully, this study becomes a base to further study of user experience of various on and offline stock information services and they become a reference to develop a service with great user experience.

  • The purpose of this study is to find methods for utilizing digital room in public library and its efficient operation by analyzing the status quo of the digital rooms in public libraries, which had been built nation-widely about 5 years ago. It is found that it is urgent to supplement and improve the infrastructure of them. It is also required to build multi-functional digital rooms and an integrated operational system for digital rooms. Implementation of an integrated operational system, first of all, for applicable sections of digital room may be the best alternative. The multi-functional digital rooms can be built, which, in addition to its traditional function, can include a variety of original information resources and function of information creation using application programs, as well as functions such as education, information services, online/offline community creation, and activating information sharing. In the future, the digital rooms in public libraries must play a significant role as online/offline spaces, which are not the places for use and access to internet information resource, but for information/knowledge sharing and collaborative activities. It also must provide a communication channel between librarians and users as well as among users themselves.
