  • This paper presents a matrix analysis to get the torsional behavior of core structures with torsional reinforcements. Based on simplified assumptions, formulae for the forces and displacements of cote structures subjected to three typical load cases, i.e. uniformly distributed torque, triangularly distributed torque and a concentrated torque at the top of the structure, are derived analytically. The behavior of the cote according to the variation of reinforcement locations is investigated to estimate the optimum locations of reinforcements to minimize the core rotations and bimoments. The results by the program MIDAS-GEN have shown that this analysis can give quite satisfactory results for structural models with torsional reinforcements. Although three dimensional analysis by computer has come within reach as a normal structural design procedure, its use as an optimization tool may not be desirable in view of the expense and time required. Formulae that we presented here can be used to estimate the torsional rotations and forces of practical cote structures at the preliminary design stages.

  • The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of the p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity using the constitutive equation for work-hardening materials, and the associated flow rule. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the circular plate with uniformly distributed load. Those results are compared with the theoretical solutions and the numerical solutions of ADINA

  • This study analyzed the annual difference of firm's book income, taxable income and BTD that before and after the 2009 corporate tax rate cut and 2018 corporate tax rate increase. ANOVA analysis was performed for each item by year, and post hoc was performed after homogeneity test of variance. The research results are as follows. First, the book income at corporate tax rate cut was higher than taxable income, and BTD in 2008 was significantly different from other years. Second, the book income at corporate tax rate increase was less than taxable income, and BTD in 2017 was also significantly different from other years. In other words, the firm is performing appropriate profit adjustments to reduce of tax burden when the corporate tax rate changes. Because of this, the BTD in the year immediately before the corporate tax rate change is different from other years.

  • This paper was proposed the recognition method by using parameters which was estimated from the data on the estimated plane and a neural network. After the LPC estimated in each frame algorithm was mapped to the estimated plane by the optimum feature mapping function, we estimated the C-LPC and the maximum and minimum value and 3 divided power from the mapping data on the estimated plane. As a result of the experiment of the speech recognition that those parameters were applied to the input of a neural network, it was found that those parameters estimated from the estimated plane have the features of the original speech for a change in the time scale and that the recongnition rate by the proposed methods was 96.3 percent.

  • A naphthalene sublimation technique based on the heat/mass transfer analogy is used to investigate the circumferential mass transfer from a circular cylinder in an approaching uniform shear flow. Experiments are performed in a wind tunnel (450*450m $m^{2}$ with a shear flow generator which is specially manufactured for generating variable shear rates(S). The effects of an approaching shear flow are correlated with mass transfer coefficients. It is found that the local mass transfer rate on a circular cylinder is characterized with the shear parameter $K^{d}$ defined as Sd/ $U^{c}$ , where d is the radius of cylinder and $U^{c}$ is the approaching velocity at the center of cylinder. The angle on the corresponding to minimum Sherwood number is approximately proportional to the shear parameter on an upper and down number is approximately proportional to the shear parameter on an upper and down circular cylinder (0< $K^{d}$ <0.132). Changes on the averaged mass transfer rate are not significant for small $K^{d}$ , which are slightly proportional to K$d^{2}$ but the local mass transfer rates are significantly changed with the approaching shear flow.

  • Estimating reliability of a non-repairable system using the degradation data, variance assumption such as homogeneity (constant) or heteroscedasticity (time-variant) could affect accuracy of reliability estimation. This paper showed reliability estimation and comparison results under normal conditions using accelerated degradation data obtained from destructive measurements, according to variance assumption of the data at each measurement time. Degradation data from three accelerated conditions with stress factors of temperature and humidity were used to estimate reliability. The $B_{10}$ lifetime was estimated as 1243.8 years by constant variance assumption, and 18.9 years by time-variant variance. And variance assumption provided different analysis results of important stresses to reliability. Thus, accurate assumption of variance at each measurement time is required when estimating reliability using degradation data of a non-repairable system.

  • A new index for the buckling strength of non-structured plates is proposed. The external work or the deformation energy caused by the external loads or the boundary displacement controled by a load parameter is calculated along an equilibrium path of the member under consideration. If the second variation of the energy with respect to the parameter loses its positiveness, it defined as the limit of the stability. In contrast to the current method given in codes where the stability limit is evaluated by using only representative internal forces, the evaluation of the stability limit is always consistent even with the change of the distribution of the internal forces on the boundary. If the elasticity is concerned, the result from this proposed approach becomes identical to that from the classical methods.

  • Laboratory model tests were conducted to assess the behavior characteristics of geogrid reinforced earth walls using fiber-mixed soil backfill with different surcharge loads and reinforcement spacing. The models were built in the box having dimensions, 100cm tall, 140cm long, and 100cm wide. The reinforcements used were geonet(tensile strength, 0.79t/m) and geogrid(tensile strength, 2.26t/m). Decomposed granite soil(ML) with or without polypropylene fiber was used backfill material. Strain gauges and LVDTs were installed on the retaining walls to measure the strain of the reinforcements and the displacements of the wall facings.

  • 3D printing is one of the emerging technologies and getting a lot of attention. To do 3D printing, 3D model is first generated, and then converted to G-code which is 3D printer's operations. Facet, which is a small triangle, represents a small surface of 3D model. Depending on the height or precision of the 3D model, the number of facets becomes very large and so the conversion time from 3D model to G-code takes longer. Apach Hadoop is a software framework to support distributed processing for large data set and its application range gets widening. In this paper, Hadoop is used to do the conversion works time-efficient way. 2-phase distributed algorithm is developed first. In the algorithm, all facets are sorted according to its lowest Z-value, divided into N parts, and converted on several nodes independently. The algorithm is implemented in four steps; preprocessing - Map - Shuffling - Reduce of Hadoop. Finally, to show the performance evaluation, Hadoop systems are set up and converts testing 3D model while changing the height or precision.

  • This paper presents a new, effective torsional constant for thin-waled open beams under concentrated and uniformly distributed torques. The proposed constant can be used directly, instead of the St. Venant torsional constant, for any generic comemrcial finite-element program, without modifying the algorithm. The derived torsional constant accounts for both the pure torsion and the warping torsion, and is equal to the St. Venant torsion constant times a correction factor. It is also shown, in the case of the St. Venant torsion, that the derived constant is identical to the torsional constant. The derived effective torsional constant is different from the one given by Elhelbawey et al. The pure torsional shear stress, the warping shear stress, and the warping normal stress were also determine d, using the maximum twisting angle. The accuracy of the proposed torsional constant was validated by comparing the numerical results with the closed-form solutions or other numerical results available in the literature.
