  • The flying wing configuration with high sweep angles and rounded leading edge represent a complex flow of structures by the leading edge vortex. For control of the tailless flying wing configuration with unstable directional stability, flaperon is used. In this study, we conducted numerical simulations for a non-slender flying wing configuration with a rounded leading edge and analyzed the effect of the sideslip angle and flaperon. Through aerodynamic coefficient analysis, it was found that the effect of AoS on lift and drag coefficient was minimal and the side force and moment coefficient were markedly influenced by AoS. As the sideslip angle increased, the pitch break, which is related to the pitching moment coefficient, was delayed. Through stability analysis, the directional and lateral static stability of the flying wing configuration were increased by flaperon. Also, the structure and behavior of the leading edge vortex were analyzed by observing the contour of the pressure coefficient and the skin friction line.

  • Electroencephalography(EEG) studies that have been in clinical research since the discovery of brainwave have recently been developed into brain-computer interface studies. Currently, research is underway to manipulate robot arms and drones by analyzing brainwave. However, resolution and reliability of EEG information is still limited. Therefore, it is required to develop various technologies necessary for measuring and interpreting brainwave more accurately. Pioneering new applications with these technologies is also important. In this paper, we propose development of a personal authentication system fit for lifecaretainment based on EEG. The proposed system guarantees the resolution and reliability of EEG information by using the Electrooculogram and Electromyogram(EMG) together with EEG.

  • As buildings constructed in the 1980s during a period of rapid urbanization and economic growth have aged, the demand for demolition, especially of reinforced concrete structures, has increased. In large-scale structures such as industrial buildings, a mixed approach utilizing both mechanical demolition and explosive demolition methods is being employed. As the demand for demolition rises, so do safety concerns, making structural stability during demolition a crucial issue. In this study, drones and LiDAR were used to collect actual structural data, which was then used to build a simulation model. The analysis method employed was a combination of the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Discrete Element Method (DEM), known as the Combined Finite-Discrete Element Method (FDEM), which was used to perform dynamic structural analysis during various demolition phases. The results were compared and analyzed with the commercial software ELS to assess its applicability.

  • Spontaneous ignition is not only severe economic damage but also a typical plant damage caused by harmful gases generated during the fire. Because coal is porous, it causes oxygen to be absorbed in the amount of oxygen per unit weight of oxygen, resulting in low humidity and low thermal conductivity. The cause and effect of spontaneous ignition are very complex, so it is difficult to prevent it beforehand and once it is difficult to digest it, it is difficult to digest it. This study examines structural safety by conducting a structural analysis of the cooling ball system to prevent spontaneous combustion of coal stockpile plants and external pressures.

  • In Korea, mountainous areas cover 60% of the land, leading to increased factors such as concentrated heavy rainfall and typhoons, which can result in debris flow and landslide. Despite the high risk of disasters like landslides and debris flow, there has been a tendency in most regions to focus more on post-damage recovery rather than preventing damage. Therefore, in this study, precise topographic data was constructed by conducting on-site surveys and drone measurements in areas where debris flow actually occurred, to analyze the risk zones for such events. The numerical analysis program RAMMS model was utilized to perform debris flow analysis on the areas prone to debris flow, and the actual distribution of debris flow was compared and analyzed to evaluate the applicability of the model. As a result, the debris flow generation area calculated by the RAMMS model was found to be 18% larger than the actual area, and the travel distance was estimated to be 10% smaller. However, the simulated shape of debris flow generation and the path of movement calculated by the model closely resembled the actual data. In the future, we aim to conduct additional research, including model verification suitable for domestic conditions and the selection of areas for damage prediction through debris flow analysis in unmeasured watersheds.

  • Due to recent severe climate change, abnormal weather phenomena, and other factors, the frequency and magnitude of natural disasters are increasing. The need for disaster management using artificial satellites is growing, especially during large-scale disasters due to time and economic constraints. In this study, we have summarized the current status of next-generation medium-sized satellites and microsatellites in operation and under development, as well as trends in satellite imagery analysis techniques using a large volume of satellite imagery driven by the advancement of the space industry. Furthermore, by utilizing satellite imagery, particularly focusing on recent major disasters such as floods, landslides, droughts, and wildfires, we have confirmed how satellite imagery can be employed for damage analysis, thereby establishing its potential for disaster management. Through this study, we have presented satellite development and operational statuses, recent trends in satellite imagery analysis technology, and proposed disaster response strategies that utilize various types of satellite imagery. It was observed that during the stages of disaster progression, the utilization of satellite imagery is more prominent in the response and recovery stages than in the prevention and preparedness stages. In the future, with the availability of diverse imagery, we plan to research the fusion of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and deep learning, and their applicability for effective disaster management.

  • UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are widely used for maintenance and monitoring of facilities. It is necessary to acquire a high-resolution image for evaluating the appearance state of the facility in safety inspection. In addition, it is essential to acquire the video data in order to acquire data over a wide area rapidly. In general, since video data does not include position information, it is difficult to analyze the actual size of the inspection object quantitatively. In this study, we evaluated the utilization of 3D point cloud data of bridges using a matching between video frames and reference photos. The drones were used to acquire video and photographs. And exterior orientations of the video frames were generated through feature point matching with reference photos. Experimental results showed that the accuracy of the video frame data is similar to that of the reference photos. Furthermore, the point cloud data generated by using video frames represented the shape and size of bridges with usable accuracy. If the stability of the product is verified through the matching test of various conditions in the future, it is expected that the video-based facility modeling and inspection will be effectively conducted.
