  • This study started with the background that future South Korean military organizations should develop a complex system linking unmanned systems by analyzing and considering cases using "drone," which has recently become an essential means of war. In 2014 and 2022, South Korea is facing serious security threats from North Korean drones that have recently invaded South Korea's airspace in a row. If a North Korean drone was loaded with explosives and poisonous gas and invaded our airspace, the damage would be more serious. Furthermore, what the Azerbaijan-Armenian War of 2020 and the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war have in common is that battles using "combat drones" are underway. Watching this shift in the domestic and overseas war paradigm, drones have become essential for military operations. In the context of a "ceasefire" and the military environment on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea should actively develop "Combat drones" that take into account precise strikes and portability against targets linked to military drones.

  • This paper addresses the analysis method about optimal performance and required quantity for Mission-Based drones. In the case of drones, although scientific verification of operational performance and quantity of demanded, such as total flight time, total operation time, and appropriate required quantity, is required depending on the operation concept, there is no methodology for analyzing them systematically. That is the reason this research was carried out. Through the suggestion and study about Mission-Based six step analysis method and, this study can present the optimal ROC (Required Operational Capability) and the required quantity based on the operational concept of drones, and technical and economic effects were suggested.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach to get the requirement of drone acquisition for the efficient dronebot combat system using brute force algorithm. We define parameters, such as width, depth, and important surveillance area for the surveillance mission in the Army battalion and company units based on real military operation environment and brute force algorithm with 4 steps including first, next, valid, output is applied to get the requirement of drone acquisition and each drone's path planning using computer simulation. As a result, we could get the requirement of drone acquisition and each drone's path planning, the Army could utilize our proposed approach in the Army dronebot combat system. In the future research, we will study on the reliability of our proposed approach to get the requirement of drone acquisition for the efficient dronebot combat system.

  • On December 26, 2022, North Korea's drone provocation resumed for the first time in eight years. The threat covered not only the Seoul metropolitan area but also the no-fly zone for the presidential office's security, and the South Korean military's response to it is not appropriate, which is a major controversy. In the midst of this, problems caused by the prohibition of small drones' flight and illegal intrusion into restricted areas are increasing in Korea, and the threat is becoming a reality, such as being used for terrorist attacks abroad. In this paper, the concept of "Counter-Drone" and related technologies were considered for these drone threats, and implications were derived through domestic and overseas small drone threats, and the direction of development of the Counter-Drone system was presented. North Korea's drone threat is expected to be more diversified, massified, and advanced, resulting in bolder attacks and provocations. Therefore, the South Korean military should push for early powering of the integrated control system and the conter drone system, joint and military cooperation in response to the threat of small drones, and the ability to carry out joint operations between South Korea and the U.S.

  • The unmanned aerial vehicle that emerged with the 4th Industrial Revolution attracts attention not only from Korea but also from around the world, and its utilization and market size are gradually expanding. For the first time, it was used for military purposes, but it is currently used for transportation, investigation, surveillance, and agriculture. China, along with the US and Europe, is emerging as a leader in the commercial unmanned aerial vehicle market, and Korea, which has the world's seventh-largest technology in related fields, is striving to promote various technology development policies and system improvement related to unmanned aerial vehicles. Military drones will revolutionize the means of war by using a means of war called an unmanned system based on theories such as network-oriented warfare and effect-oriented warfare. Mobile equipment, including drones, is greatly affected by environmental factors such as terrain and weather, as well as technological developments and interests in the field. Now, drones are being used actively in many fields, and especially in the military field, the use of advanced drones is expected to create a new defense environment and provide a new paradigm for war.

  • With the development of artificial intelligence technology, drones are evolving beyond simple remote control tools into intelligent drones that perform missions autonomously. The importance of drones is gradually gaining attention due to the use of drones in overseas military conflicts and the analysis of the future operational environment in Korea. AMAD is proposed for the rapid development of intelligent drones. In order to develop intelligent software based on AMAD, an integrated development environment (IDE) that supports users with functions such as debugging, performance evaluation, and monitoring is essential. In this paper, we define the concepts of the development environment required for intelligent software development and describe the results of reflecting them in the design of the IDE and AMAD's agents, SVI and MPD, which are interfaced with the IDE.

  • The progress in science and technology has widened the scope of the battlefield, leading to the emergence of cyber electronic warfare that exploits electromagnetic waves and networks. Drones have become more important due to advancements in battery technology and navigation systems. Nevertheless, tackling drone threats comes with its own set of difficulties. Radar plays a vital role in detecting drones, offering long-range capabilities and independence from weather conditions. However, the battlefield presents unique challenges like dealing with high levels of signal noise and ensuring the safety of the detection assets. This paper proposes various approaches to improve the operation of drone detection radar in cyber electronic warfare, with a focus on enhancing signal processing techniques, utilizing low probability of interception (LPI) radar, and implementing optimized deployment strategies.

  • Analysis of combat effectiveness is required to consider the concept of tactical cooperative engagement between manned-unmanned weapon systems, in order to predict the required operational capabilities of future weapon systems that meets the concept of 'effect-based synchronized operations.' However, analytical methods such as mathematical and statistical models make it difficult to analyze the effects of complex systems under nonlinear warfare. In this paper, we propose a combat simulation model that can simulate the concept of cooperative engagement between manned-unmanned combat entities based on wireless communications. First, we model unmanned combat entities, e.g., unmanned ground vehicles and drones, and manned combat entities, e.g., combatants and artillery, considering the capabilities required by the future ground system. We also simulate tactical behavior in which all entities perform their mission while sharing battlefield situation information through wireless communications. Finally we explore the feasibility of the proposed model by analyzing combat effectiveness such as target acquisition rate, remote control success rate, reconnaissance lead time, survival rate, and enemy's loss rate under a small-unit armor reconnaissance scenario. The proposed model is expected to be used in war-game combat experiments as well as analysis of the effects of manned-unmanned ground weapons.

  • Currently, the 4th Industrial Revolution, like other revolutions, is bringing great change and new life to humanity, and in particular, the demand for and use of drones, which can be applied by combining various technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and information and communications technology, is increasing. Recently, it has been widely used to carry out dangerous military operations and missions, such as the Russia-Ukraine war and North Korea's reconnaissance against South Korea, and as the demand for and use of drones increases, concerns about the safety and security of drones are growing. Currently, a variety of research is being conducted, such as detection of wireless communication abnormalities and sensor data abnormalities related to drones, but research on real-time detection of threats using radio frequency characteristic data is insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we conduct a study to determine whether the characteristic data is normal or abnormal signal data by collecting radio frequency signal characteristic data generated while the drone communicates with the ground control system while performing a mission in a HITL(Hardware In The Loop) simulation environment similar to the real environment. proceeded. In addition, we propose an unsupervised learning-based threat detection system and optimal threshold that can detect threat signals in real time while a drone is performing a mission.

  • This paper proposes the development of an AI drone equipped with motion detection and thermal imaging camera to quickly rescue people from drowning accidents. Currently, when a drowning accident occurs, a large number of manpower must be put in to find the person who needs it, such as conducting a search operation. The time required for this process is too long, and especially the night search is more difficult for a person to do directly. To solve this situation, we are going to use AI drones.
