Purpose: To perform the retrospective analysis of the sports injuries sustained by the college Taekwondo athletes in the respect of the injury patterns, mechanism of injury and clinical outcome Materials and Methods: This study is based on 47 out of 49 college Takwondo athletes, who had experienced the Takwondo related musculoskeletal injuries severe enough to visit the clinic for medical treatment. The mean age at the time of injury was 18.8 years and 39 were males and 8 females. The Taekwondo career was average 9.6 years and the injuries were sustained at average 6.7 years of their career. The injuries were analyzed by the detailed interview with thorough physical examination. Results: Forty-seven Taekwondo athletes in the study experienced average 1.8 injury/person (total 85 cases) with 26 persons of one time experience(55.3%), 11 persons of 2 times(23.4%),4 persons of 3 times (8.5%),5 persons of 4 times (10.6%) and 1 person of 5 times (2.2%). Injuries occurred during training in 50 cases (58.8%), while during match in 35 cases (41.2%). Injuries occurred during the attack phase of the match are 26 cases (31.7%) while 49 cases (57.6%) during the defense phase. As for the pattern of injury, fracture was the most common with 49 cases (57.6%), followed by ligament injury with 21 cases (24.7%). The upper extremity injuries were 32 cases (37.7%) while the lower extremity injuries were 44 cases (51.8%) Mode of medical treatment were operation in 15cases(17.7%), cast in 21 cases(24.7%), splint in 33 cases (38.8%), physical therapy in 15cases(17.7%) and acupuncture in 1 case(1.1%) Conclusion: Almost all the college Taekwondo athletes (96%) experienced sports injuries severe enough to receive medical treatments with the fracture being the most common injury pattern. The injuries occurred more commonly during the defense phase of the competition.
In this study, for a safetv assessment of light weight wheelchair occupant in frontal crash, we tested a dynamic sled impact test. we carried out total 6 times test and impact speed was 20g/48 km/h. By using Hybrid III 50%ile male dummy, head injury criteria(HIC), neck flexion moment, neck axial tension force, neck shear force. chest acceleration, head, wheelchair and knee excursion were measured, we evaluated light weight wheelchair occupant safety by motion criteria(MC) which proposed in SAE J2249 and combined injury criteria(CIC) which is a voluntary standard(GM-IARV) of General Motors Co.. when we assumed that the maximum injury value in frontal crash was 100%, the result of motion criteria(MC) of wheelchair occupant was 52%, occupant upper body injury index(CIC) was 60.1%.
A three-week old female Chihuahua dog weighing 80 g was presented with the absence of skull palpation, suckling disability, and growth retardation. Physical examination revealed asymmetry of the lips slanting to the left side when feeding milk. Also there were head tilt to the left side and corneal ulcer of the left eye. The absence of the frontal and parietal bones were shown on radiographs. Lateral ventricular enlargement was identified on the ultrasonographic examination. On computed tomographs, frontal and parietal bone defect, ventricle enlargement, and intracranial arachnoid cyst were observed. The dog was dead after 1 day of presentation. The dog was diagnosed as the primary acalvaria by necropsy.

In this paper, the bio-heat equation including thermoregulatory functions is solved for an anatomically based human head model comprised of 14 tissues to study the thermal implications of high-power exposure to electromagnetic(EM) fields due to half-wave dipole antenna both at 835 and 1,800 MHz. The dipole antenna is located at the side of the ear and the front of the eyes. The FDTD method has been used for the SAR computation. When solving the BHE, the thermoregulation function and sweating effetecs are included in order to predict more exact temperature increase. It is noted that an approximately proportional relationship between the tissues and the maximum temperature increase and the antenna power is not maintained when the thermoregulation and sweating effects are fully accounted for under high power exposure.

Purpose: As the number of people enjoying skiing and snowboarding which are two popular winter sports has been increasing, wearing helmet during doing these sports has been needed for safety. The rates of head or face injury have decreased after using helmet. However the effect that wearing helmet has on cervical damage is not yet to be known. So through this research we intend to be helpful in developing effective program and safety equipment. Materials and Methods: During two seasons from December 2009 to march 2011, cased 658 cervical injuries within 14538 admittance in medical center of major resort due to skiing and snow-boarding injuries. For survey and research model, one year before the research year conducted a pilot study. Admittance were 432 male and 226 female, advanced 273 and 385 novice. We divided them into two groups depending on wearing helmet, measured cervical damage ratio and injury mechanism, and researched the severity of damage and diagnosed injury. Each group used SPSS 12.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) to process data statistically. Results: The number of patients was 312 in skier and 346 in snow boarder. Patients wearing helmet were 146 in skier and 127 in snow boarder. Classification of each injuries were confirmed as 292 cases of simple sprain, 359 bruising, 6 cervical fractures and 1 case of dislocation. Classification of injury mechanisms were 287 of human collision, 212 material collision, 108 of slip down by oneself, 39 of falling and 12 cases of etc. In cases wearing helmet ski 78/ snow board 70 were simple sprain, ski 64/ snowboard 68 were shown as bruising, ski 1/ snow board 2 had cervical fracture or dislocation. The ratio of cervical sprain increased in cases of wearing helmet compared to non-wearing cases and there was a statistical significance (p<0.001). The ratio of cervical contusion increased significantly in non-wearing helmet user (p<0.05). However, there was no significant increase in fracture and dislocation compared between helmet user and non-user (p> 0.05). Conclusion: In this study, wearing helmet had no relation to additional cervical injury occurrence or severity among skiers and snow boarders. The ratio of cervical sprain increased significantly in helmet user with person to person accident. However, the cervical contusion decreased. On this ground, further biomechanical studies are required and modified helmet will be necessary.

Background: In the studies of the distribution of time to death in trauma patients, the early deaths within several hours after injury were a large component of total trauma deaths. Due to the development of trauma system, overall mortality of trauma was decreased, but trauma is still the major cause of deaths. Material and Method: From January 1994 to December 2003, trauma patients who had been admitted and had expired at tertiary hospital were enrolled. There was a total of 400 cases, a retrospective study was done to determine the distribution of trauma mortality according to the part of the body that were severely injured part and compared the difference between early deaths within 6 hours and late deaths after 6 hours. We also analysed the risk factors of early deaths due to trauma. Result: In severe injury to the head and abdomen, the distribution of mortality was bimodal. But, in severe chest injuries, the distribution was log-shape and most early deaths were almost of trauma related. The average of GCS were 5.86$\pm$4.15 for the early deaths and 8.24$\pm$5.02 for the late deaths (p < 0.05). The AIS of thorax were 2.66$\pm$1.87 for the early deaths and 1.55$\pm$1.76 for late deaths. The risk factors for early mortality were non-EMS transportation (odds ratio 3.474), high AIS (odds ratio 1.491) and GCS (odds ratio 0.859). Conclusion: In trauma patients, the causes of early mortality were severe brain injury and massive hemorrhage. Also severe chest injuries were the major cause of the early deaths in truama. Early diagnosis of chest injury can frequently be missed in the acute trauma setting. Therefore, high index of suspicion, a careful examination, and aggressive surgical treatment are important in multiple trauma patients.
Maxillofacial deformities are not considered to be a trouble in social life but function. So many maxillofacial plastc surgeons has made efforts to overcome these troubles and bring out more positive life. The proper proportion and shape decide esthetic quality. Lower third of face was consist with lip, cheek, mandibular lower border and mandibular angle. Widening lower third of face give a impression with muscular and recklessness. And lower and wide mandibular angle makes face square shape. Unilateral involvement cause asymmestric face. These face is considered unfavorable, especially in Korea or Japan. We prevent a number of with mandibular angle Bulging which was corrected with mandibular osteotomy or masseter myotomy.
In recent years there has been considerable interest in reconstructive surgery of the trachea for cervical tracheal stenosis developed by complication of endotracheal intubation or tracheotomy, or trauma of the neck. The methods used to reconstruct the tracheal defects can be repaired with end-to - end anastomosis, cervical flaps, and autogenous graft materials. Since Grillo had undertaken tracheal reconstruction after circumferential resection in dogs, resection and end - to - end anastomosis was used in cases of circumferential stenosis. And, costal, nasal septal and auricular cartilage have been used for the autogenous graft materials. Since Caputo and Consiglio had undergone tracheoplasty with auricular cartilage, Morgenstein reported successful repair of a tracheal defect with a composite postauricular cartilage graft. The advantages of the auricular cartilage graft are its easy accessibility, availability and familiarity to the otolaryngologist. In past 2 years, We performed the tracheoplasty with auricular cartilage graft and end- to end an astomosis after segmental resection in 5 patients who had suffered from tracheal stenosis. And we obtained good results. So, we reported the cases with review of the literatures.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between symptom severity and neurocognitive factors in traumatic head injury patients. In addition, the effect of frontal lobe damage on these parameters was examined. Methods : We selected 18 patients who had brain damage for the moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (MSTBI) group, and 17 patients who met the diagnostic criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) without the finding of brain damage for the comparison group. For the evaluation of neurocognitive function, K-WAIS, Rey-Kim Memory Test, K-FENT, WCST, and MMPI-2 were used. Results : The results of the comparison (using the malingering scale) revealed that the values of PDS and PK, which express the severity of symptoms, and the values of the validity scale F, F (B), and F (P) were significantly higher in the overly-expressed group. F (B) in overly-expressed group and PK, Pt, and Sc in the properly-expressed group had significant correlation with the severity of symptoms. F (B), S, and Stroop error inhibition in PTSD, and PK, Pt, Sc, and MQ in MSTBI had significant correlation with the severity of symptoms. The results of the comparison based on the finding of frontal lobe damage revealed that PDS, EIQ, and MQ ware significantly higher in the group without brain damage. Conclusions : It was revealed that each neurocognitive factor was correlated with the severity of symptoms. There was a decrease in complaints or symptoms reported by the frontal lobe injury group, and this is believed to be due to degenerative change in the personality and emotional functioning of these patients following frontal lobe damage.
Purpose: Bicycle riding is an increasingly popular sports and leisure activity in Korea. The aim of this study was to identify injury patterns of admitted patients who were injured from bicycle riding. Materials and Methods: This study examined 71 patients from Jan. 2008 to May 2009. There were 54 male and 17 female patients. We investigated the injured body parts, mechanisms of injury, location of injury, types of bicycles, purpose of bicycle riding, any concomitant luggage or passenger on rear seat, injury seasons and the helmet use. We analyzed the data using Injury Severity Score(ISS). Results: There were 11 cases of ISS 1, 41 cases of ISS 4, 2 cases of ISS 5, 13 cases of ISS 9, one case of ISS 13, two cases of ISS 16 and one case of ISS 29 among the 71 patients. 36 patients(50.7%) underwent surgery for upper and lower extremity injuries, two patients for vertebral body fractures, 8 patients for facial bone injuries and one patient for abdominal organ injury. There were 10 head injuries among whom three patients received treatment in ICU(4.2%). Conclusion: Bicycle riding can cause severe injuries with subsequent admission and major surgeries. Several measures including constructing more bicycle road, public campaign and wearing protective gears should be instituted.
