  • This study aims to obtain the basic data in order to develop the distributive justice reasoning program for preschooler. To fulfill this aim, this study investigated the parents' and kindergarten teachers' preference in the selection of the traditional fairy tale and the extent to which parents' and kindergarten teachers' evaluation of the traditional fairy tales dealing distributive justice are in agreement with each other. The subjects were 240 parents and 78 kindergarten teachers selected from five cities in Korea. The questionnaire with six Korean traditional fairy tales which deal with the sharing problem among the friends and the families was used. The data were analyzed in SPSS Win 10.0 program, by frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, ${\chi}^2$ and t-test. As a result, most important factor in selecting the traditional fairy tale was the title and the editing state of the book for the kindergarten teacher, while it was the good fame of the press for the parent. The congruence existed between parents' and kindergarten teachers' evaluation in knowledge, adaptability for modern times, amusement and empathy in the function of the traditional fairy tales regarding distributive justice. Meanwhile parents evaluated the traditional fairy tales are more adaptive for value formation and useful than teachers did.

  • A bibliographical analysis on folktale studies in Korea by Soyoung Yoo This study is aimed primarily at taking a view of the scope and depth of folktale studies in Korea and analysing their subjects study and directions. By doing so, the researcher hopes that this can be of help to users of those studies. The researcher collected all the studies in this field since 1945 and analysed them through SAS program. Thus, the researcher found the studies on Korean folktales started in late 1960's and flourished and diversified in the middle of the 1990s. The researcher divided the collected materials into two categories, i.e., the study materials which focused on folktales themselves and studies for the exploration of applications of folktales for other purposes. Former analytical study on folktales study themselves is shown to be composed of events, characters, themes and psychological as well as value analysis. there are some comparative studies with folktales of other countries. Latter studies show that the studies are mostly for language educational purpose. Furthermore, they are for illustration, animation, traditional design, costumes studies and theme parks. There are some other studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the development and application of strategies using fairy tales in elementary school science. For this study, many fairy tales were searched in terms of various characteristics and educational value of the tales. Five fairy tales were selected and reconstructed to suit the 'mirrors and lenses' unit of 5th graders' school science, and teaching strategies using the fairy tales were developed to be used in six lessons. To investigate the effects of instruction using fairy tales, pre/post tests for scientific attitude were administered. To analyze students' perception of their classes, a simple survey was administered through questionnaires. We found from this study that the students related the fairy tales with their own experiences and took an active part in the class that used them. Also, instruction using fairy tales had positive effects on their scientific attitude. Many students said that the science classes were interesting, and the method using fairy tales encouraged students to study hard as well as helped them to understand the context. It was concluded that instruction using fairy tales was an effective method in terms of enhancing learning motivation, encouraging more inquiries, more opportunities to apply the scientific concept, and more positive scientific attitude. We discussed the strategies using fairy tales for implementation in elementary science classes as well.

  • This study is to identify the effectiveness of English literature in reading instruction using meta-analysis of advanced researches. 80 studies published in Korea were selected for this research wherein the studies are in experimental nature on reading instruction using English literature. The result of the meta-analysis are as follows: Reading instruction with English literature for early children in kindergartens and primary schools showed statistically significant positive effects in both reading abilities and affective domains, in particular for younger children from kindergartners to 2nd graders of primary school. It was more effective when the instructor used top-down approach than bottom-up or balanced approach. No significant coorelation was found between the number of English stories and the students' linguistic ability. Diverse activities tailored to students' need are turned out to be more effective than using same old activities with more stories.
