Modelling and Evaluation of Traffic Flow with Variable Speed Limit on Highway (연속류 가변속도제어 모형개발 및 효과분석)

  • Variable speed limit(VSL) is one of the highway ITS techniques designed to prevent accidents and traffic slow down by reducing congestion or speed variation between vehicles and lanes prior to arrive at the accident location by limiting speed. In Korea, while people have recognized the need for variable speed limit beginning with Seoul's urban expressway and installed facilities in order to provide guide for speed limit per lane and lane use, there has not been enough development of algorithm for internal administration as well as research on the basic principles behind administering variable speed limit. This study is for modeling and evaluating the VSL strategies based on the traffic flow theory. Supply-Demand method of the Cell Transmission Model is applied to demonstrate the traffic features and shockwaves to upstream of the bottleneck with/without VSL. We verified the explanation of Cell Transmission Model for the numerical example. and as the result, it is found that VSL strategies can reduce the total travel time in the congested section and variation of the speed. It means VSL is useful to improve the traffic condition and the safety on highway

A Performance Analysis on a Chiller with Latent Thermal Storage According to Various Control Methods (잠열 축열식 칠러시스템의 제어 방식에 따른 성능 분석)

  • A chiller, having a thermal storage system, can contribute to load-leveling and can reduce the cost of electricity by using electricity at night. In this study, the control experiments and simulations are conducted using both conventional and advanced methods for the building cooling system. Advanced approaches, such as the "region control method", divide the control region into five zones according to the size of the building load, and determines the cooling capacities of the chiller and thermal storage. On the other hand, the "dynamic programming method" obtains the optimal cooling capacities of the chiller and thermal storage by selecting the minimum-cost path by carrying out repetitive calculations. The "thermal storage priority method" shows an inferior chiller performance owing to the low-part load operation, whereas the chiller priority method leads to a high electric cost owing to the low utilization of thermal storage and electricity at night. It has been proven that the advanced control methods have advantages over the conventional methods in terms of electricity consumption, as well as cost-effectiveness. According to the simulation results during the winter season, the electric cost when using the dynamic programming method was 6.5% and 8.9% lower than that of the chiller priority and the thermal storage priority methods, respectively. It is therefore concluded that the cost of electricity utilizing the region control method is comparable to that of the dynamic programming method.

Developments of monitoring system to measure sound absorbing coefficient and structural stability of sound absorbing panel on the concrete track in the urban train tunnel (도시철도 터널 내부 콘크리트 도상 국소공명흡음판의 흡음계수 및 구조안정성 평가를 위한 계측시스템 개발)

  • In this study, a test-bed system simulated a tunnel and concrete track is tested on cite and invested an allowed limit of multi-layered sound absorbing panel for reducing noise reflected on the concrete track in train tunnel considering the criteria and limitation on the theoretical back ground. The studied results are an effective evaluating system of the sound absorbing coefficient influenced fluid effects depending on the vehicle speed in the urban train tunnel and measuring not only structural behaviors of maximum displacement and acceleration of the panel but also dynamic characteristics of damping ratio and natural frequency.

Control Method of Adaptive Duty-cycling for Monitoring System in Excavations (굴착현장 모니터링 시스템을 위한 적응적인 듀티사이클링 제어 기법)

  • Geotechnial engineering projects that requires excavation activity can cause massive ground deformation and this can damage adjacent structures. Depending on the engineering characteristics of ground material and the excavation depth, the ground movement is various. To overcome this issue, the ground deformation is monitored by multiple sensors. Typically, an inclinometer is installed behind the support wall. In this paper, we present an adaptive duty-cycling control mechanism using wireless sensors for monitoring ground deformation in excavations. The proposed mechanism dynamically adjusts the sleep time based on the urgency degree of sensed data from inclinometer. Through analytical evaluation of expected latency time, we confirm our adaptive duty-cycling mechanism has lower latency compared with periodic duty-cycling mechanism under variable conditions.

A Dynamic Data Grid Replication Strategy Based on Internet Architecture (인터넷 구조 기반의 동적 데이터 그리드 복제 정책)

  • Data grid shares distributed large data via wide-band network. Such grid environment consumes much time for large data transmission. Because it is implemented on internet as physical network. Many replication strategies were proposed for solving this problem, but they are not optimal in real Data grid environments. Because they were proposed that based on logical topology without consideration of real internet architecture. Grid data access time is largely influenced by internet architecture as physical network of Data grid. In this paper, we propose a new data replication strategy RSIA(Replication Strategy based on Internet Architecture) based on internet architecture. The RSIA places replicas considering structural hierarchy in each element of internet, and avoid the performance bottlenecks to reduce system performance degradation when a data transfer. Through simulation, we show that the proposed RSIA data replication strategy improves the performance of Data Grid environment compared with previous strategies.

  • 댐의 조절방류가 하류 하천생태에 미는 영향은 매우 복잡하다. 하류생물상에 미치는 영향은 댐에서의 거리, 유황의 변화크기에 따라 달라진다. 흐르는 물에 서식하는 물고기는 좋아하는 수심, 유속 및 하상재질 등을 이용하여 살아간다. 다만 생물상은 주변환경에 적응하거나 변화하는 능력이 있어 댐의 조절방류에 의한 수생태계 변화구조를 명확히 해석하기는 불가능하다(Power et al., 1988). 댐에 의한 일정방류는 생물다양성을 감소시키며, 보다 변동성이 큰 방류하천은 하천, 연안 및 생물상 변화 유도에 긍정적인 것은 사실이다. 또한 큰 규모의 홍수파는 하천지형의 동적활동을 촉진시키며, 이는 하천을 터전으로 서식하는 동물상을 위한 생태학적 여건을 개선시켜 주게 된다. 이는 주변 식생의 생태적 조건 변화에 도움을 주기 때문에 적어도 1년에 2번 정도의 홍수파방류는 하천주변 서식처의 다양성 변화에 필요한 것으로 보고되고 있다(Kondolf and Wilcock, 1996). 최근들어 댐 하류하천의 생태복원을 위해 연속적인 홍수파 방류의 중요성이 강조되고 있는데(Stanford et al, 1996) 자연하도에서 댐과 같은 구조물에 의한 유량조절은 하중도나 사주 등을 발달시키고 사주에서는 두꺼운 식생층이 형성될 뿐만아니라 수목군의 현저한 출현을 보여준다. 이렇게 사주나 식생이 고착됨에 따라 이의 저항을 피해가는 수로가 형성되고 저수로 구간외에서는 식생의 발달이 더욱 왕성해져 그 면적이 확대되고 있다. 결국 사주와 사주가 식생으로 연결되고 여기에 수목이 자라면서 웬만한 홍수에도 파괴되지 않는 거대한 식생대가 출현하게 되는데 우리나라에서도 많은 하천에서 볼 수 있는 현상이다. 또한 댐에 의한 퇴사의 차단은 하천지형의 불균형을 초래하고 식생의 발달과 함께 저수도부는 좁아지고 세굴에 의해 깊어지는 현상을 보인다. 이와같은 현상들은 수문특성의 변화에 의하여 결국 댐의 조절방류에 의한 수문 변화는 하천지형의 변화를 유발하고 하천지형의 변화는 하천환경에 변화를 미치게 된다. 본 연구에서는 실제적으로 댐이 건설된 지역에서 조사된 몇몇의 자료를 분석하여 댐건설후에 나타나는 부정적 영향을 최소화하기 위한 바람직한 댐운영방안을 제시하고자 한다.

A Study on the Queueing Process with Dynamic Structure for Speed-Flow-Density Diagram (동적구조를 갖는 대기행렬 모형: Speed-Flow-Density 다이어그램을 중심으로)

  • Management of the existing traffic network and understanding current traffic conditions is the most important and effective way to solve traffic congestion. This research investigates the status of Korea expressway through the Speed-Flow-Density diagram and finds the best suitable queueing model for each area. Dynamic structure in the queueing model enables us to reflect the structural change of the road in case of traffic congestion. To find the best model and estimate the parameters, we use the Newton-Raphson method. Finally, we examine the road efficiency in view of the optimal speed and density using the conditional distribution of speed and density of a S-F-D diagram.

  • Next generation military satellite communication systems have been developed for expanding capacity and survivability. As for expanding capacity, the communication systems require efficient techonology to use limited resource. So, next generation communication systems are expected to use MF-TDMA technology. MF-TDMA is the technology which has the advantages of FDMA and TDMA. By using MF-TDMA, communication systems can use limited resource efficiently, and the performance of resource allocation depends on the allocation scheme. In this paper, we propose efficient allocation scheme for next generation military satellite communication systems. Also, we compare and analze performances such as Total Resource Efficient, Reject Ratio, Computational Time, PSD distribution with existing allocation schemes.

Air-traffic dispatching scheduling in terminal airspace (공항접근영역 항공교통 Dispatching 스케줄링 연구)

  • An air traffic management (ATM) has been studied in a variety of fields to utilize an air traffic capacity efficiently and solve a congested air traffic situation due to an increment of an air traffic demand. In this paper, an air traffic management, which is related with controlling and determining the sequencing of an aircraft approaching to an airport, in terminal control area is studied. This paper focuses on scheduling algorithms with a given problem for the air traffic management with operational constraints, such as a space separation, an overtaking on the same air-route, and a route merge point (a scheduling point). For a real-time calculation, the presented algorithms focus on dispatching heuristic rules which are able to assign tasks in a fast time period with an adequate performance, which can be demonstrated as a proper and realistic scheduling algorithm. A simulation result is presented to illustrate the validity and applicability of the proposed algorithm. Each scheduling rule is analyzed on the same static and dynamic air traffic flow scenario with the ATM Monte-Carlo simulation.

  • 4대강 살리기 사업 등 대형 사업의 건설 및 시행에 의한 환경적 영향에 대한 예측과 적절한 수질관리 대안을 마련하기 위해서는 적절한 수문 수질모델을 이용하는 것이 필수적이며, 국내 대형 국책 사업 또는 중요 환경영향평가에서는 계속적으로 수질모델이 사용되고 그 적용 범위는 더욱 증가 될 전망이다. 따라서 이들 수질 모델의 사용에 있어서 예측의 정확도 및 신뢰도를 제고하는 것은 매우 중요한 일이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 특히 4대강 살리기 사업에 의해 다수의 보가 하천 내에 건설되고 준설이 실시됨에 따라 하천 내의 수리 동역학적 특성 및 수질특성이 변화할 것으로 예상되며, 적절한 수질관리 대책을 수립하기 위해서는 사업에 의한 수리 및 수질 특성 변화를 예측하고 시나리오를 분석할 있는 모델링 시스템을 구축하는 것이 필수적이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 보 건설에 따른 다양한 수리 및 수질 특성 변화를 예측하기 위해 모의 가능 모형들을 조사하고, 국 내외 적용사례 분석을 통해서 현재 가장 많이 적용되고 있는 모형들을 선별하였다. 이를 토대로 모형 별 성능을 비교 분석하여 모형별 적용성을 검토하였다. 검토결과 신설보 설치에 따른 하천 수리 특성의 변화, 부유물질 및 동반 오염물질에 의한 수질 변화 등의 고려가 가능하며, 동적상태 모형으로 하천에서의 불연속적인 흐름에 따른 모의, 수심방향으로의 모의가 가능한 EFDC 모형이 보 설치에 따른 국부적인 영향을 자세하게 파악하는데 가장 적절한 모형으로 파악되었다.
