Evaluation of Companion Crop for Conservation of Soil in Highland Cultivativation of Chinese Cabbage (고랭지배추 재배지 토양보전을 위한 동반작물 도입 평가)

  • Four cover plants such as Phlox subulata, Glechoma hederacea var. longituba, Sedum middendorffianum and Saxifraga laciniata were evaluated to investigate the effect of companion planting on reducing soil erosion in Chinese cabbage cultivated highland. The experiment was conducted using lysimeters of $5\;m{\times}2\;m$ (length$\times$width) with 5, 15 and 30% slopes. Companion plants except Sedum middendorffianum did not interface with growth of Chinese cabbage Glechoma hederacea var. longituba and Sedum middendorffianum grew faster than Phlox subulata and Saxifraga laciniata in the early growth stage suer transplanting, resulting in fast ground covering, but the ground covering by Phlox subulata and Saxifraga laciniata was delayed because growth suppression by high air temperature during summer season. Soil erosion became severe as increasing degree of slope. Assessments of the four cover plants were conducted in relation to soil conservation characteristic of scenery, endurance to the environment stress, plant growth and weed suppression. From the assessments, Phlox subulata was superior to other intercropping crops tested for reducing soil erosion in highland cultivation of Chinese cabbage.

  • To evaluate the effect of companion plant (Phlox subulata and Glechoma hederacea var. longituba) on conservation of soil in slopped highland, coverage of crops and soil erosion were investigated with 3 different conditions. The coverage rate of Phlox subulata with Chinese cabbage cultivation was kept on approximately 100% from Chinese cabbage-transplanting to -harvest. The coverage rate of Glechoma hederacea var. longituba with Chinese cabbage cultivation was low at it's early stage, however, reached to approximately 100% at the time of Chinese cabbage harvest. In contrast, the coverage rate of Chinese cabbage cultivation without cover crop, and simultaneous transplanting with Chinese cabbage and cover crop were approximately 60%. Losses of soil and nitrate nitrogen were much lower in Phlox subulata with Chinese cabbage cultivation ($0.1{\sim}0.2ton\;ha^{-1}$, $0.2{\sim}0.4kg\;NO_3{^-}-N\;ha^{-1}$) than those in Chinese cabbage cultivation without cover crop ($20.8ton\;ha^{-1}$, $2.1kg\;NO_3{^-}-N\;ha^{-1}$), and simultaneous transplanting with Chinese cabbage and cover crop ($8.9{\sim}10.5ton\;ha^{-1}$, $1.5{\sim}2.2kg\;NO_3{^-}-N\;ha^{-1}$). Cover plants suppressed the weed occurrence up to about 70%. Live mulching with cover plants set a good effects on weed suppression and reduction of soil and nutrient loss. Therefore intercropping with Phlox subulata will make great contributions to soil conservation in Chinese cabbage cultivated highland.

  • 금년은 과거 어느 해보다도 과수농사에 어려움이 많았던 한 해였다. 주요 과수의 개화기 전후의 저온과 7,8월의 집중호우를 동반한 긴 장마와 $\ulcorner$셀마$\lrcorner$$\ulcorner$다이너$\lrcorner$태풍의 피해 그리고 9월중순부터 계속되고 있는 오랜 가뭄 등으로 지역에 따라서는 일부 과종들이 병해충의 발생과 한발의 피해로 조기낙엽이 되고 있어 금년 겨울의 동해가 우려되므로 세심한 관리가 요망되고 있다.

Effect of Seeding Method and Mixing Ratio on the Quality and Productivity of Rye-Hairy Vetch Mixture (파종방법 및 혼파비율이 호밀-헤어리베치 혼파시 사료가치 및 생산성 향상에 미치는 영향)

  • Hairy vetch(Vicia villosa Roth) which is legume fur winter cover crop can supply nitrogen for companion crop and soil. The purpose of this study was to improve the forage quality and productivity using forage crop and hairy vetch in winter season fer three years. The results of this experiments were summarized as follows. Plant height of rye was decreased but hairy vetch was increased. The heading stage of rye did not show difference among the treatments. The content of dry mater(DM) was decreased with increased ratio of hairy vetch/rye but it did not show significant difference between seeding methods. Crude protein(CP) content tended to increase in mixture plots. Acid detergent fiber(ADF) and NDF(neutral detergent fiber) content of mixture plots were lower than that of rye mono-cultivated. In vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD) and TDN(total digestible nutrient) content were showed inverted tendency. The highest DM yield was in rye mono-cultivated, but it was similar between mono-cultivated and mixture I (P<0.05). In the CP yield, it did not show the significant difference between rye mono-culture and mixture I . The content of total nitrogen in soil showed slight increase as 0.06∼0.08%. Conclusively, mixture I showed equal or superior productivity and quality comparing with rye mono-cultivated, mixture I would be recommended to produce higher yield and to conserve soil environment.

이삭도열병, 흰잎마름병 발생증가 - 잦은 강우가 발생호조건으로 작용

  • 한 해의 농사를 마무리짓는 이 시점에서 ''86년도 병해발생상황을 살펴본다는 것은 내년도의 방제계획을 보완한다는 점에서 매우 뜻깊은 계기가 될 것이다. 금년은 매우 특이한 기상으로 초봄에는 충분한 강우로 이앙을 순조롭게 마칠 수 있었으며 이앙초기에는 평년에 비하여 약간 기온이 높았지만 병해초발은 예년과 같이 시작되었다. 그러나 6월 하순과 7월의 저온으로 본논의 초기 및 중기 병해발생은 아주 적은 편이었지만 생육후기에는 잦은 강우로 이삭도열병, 흰잎마름병 등의 발생량이 증가한 반면에 잎집무늬마름병 발생은 아주 적은 해였다. 중$\cdot$만생종 출수기에 특히 남부지방에서 문제시되었던 것은 태풍 Vera호의 건풍동반으로 백수현상이 지역적으로 심한 발생을 보여 수고성 및 흰잎마름병 발생에도 영향을 주었을 것으로 생각된다. 여기서는 금년도 주요병해의 발생특징을 분석해 보고 문제점을 잘 파악하여 내년도의 방제자료로 삼고자 한다.

  • 현재 농가에 많이 보급되어 있는 플라스틱피복 파이프 온실은 폭설이나 돌풍을 비롯한 강풍하에 놓이게 되면, 피복재의 파손이나 구조적인 붕괴현상으로 인하여 온실내 재배작물이 치명적인 피해를 입는 경우가 발생하게 된다. 실예로 1994년 2월 12일의 폭설과 1995년 7월 23일의 태풍 등 최근 2년을 연속하여 폭풍이나 강풍으로 막대한 피해를 경험한 바 있으며, 1997년 11월 12일의 나주 돌풍, 1998년 1월 8일 서부 경남지역의 강풍을 동반한 폭설, 1999년 8월 3일에 상륙한 태풍 올가 등은 온실과 같은 경량구조물의 안전을 크게 위협하고 있다. Suppressive Effect of Repellent Plant Cultivation against Striped Flea Beetle of Chinese Cabbage (동반작물 주위재배에 의한 배추 벼룩잎벌레 억제효과)

  • We evaluated two herbal plants, basil (Ocimum basilicum) and lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), for their potential as repellent plants in the management of striped flea beetle (Phyllotreta striolata), in organic production of chinese cabbage. It was confirmed that striped flea beetle avoided these two herbal plants in olfactometer experiment. We conducted field experiment in which the suppressive effect of the two selected herbal plants and cruciferous crops preferred by striped flea beetle were evaluated through cultivating as inter crops and border crops, respectively. In inter-cropping experiment, unlike in vitro test, the density of striped flea beetle was low in basil- or mustard-intercropping cultivation plot, but high in lemon balm-intercropping cultivation plot. In border cropping experiment, the density of striped flea beetle on chinese cabbage in lemon balm or basil cultivation plot were approximately zero. As a result of this study, we think that border cropping of lemon balm or basil can be used to reduce preventively striped flea beetle of chinese cabbage under organic farming system.

Nitrogen Fixation of Legumes and Transfer to Grasses in Spring Paddy Soil (춘계답리작 토양에서 두과의 질소고정과 이의 화본과로의 이동)

  • Manure recycle is an emerging issue in agriculture in Korea these days. Farmers are keeping eye on legume mixture with grasses for nitrogen fixation and transfer to companion crops by legumes. We had a trial to investigate the effect of different legume mixtures on nitrogen fixation and transfer in spring soil. The treatment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Three different mixtures were used(rye+hairy vetch, Italian ryegrass+crimson clover, oat+pea) and sowed in pots with paddy soil from western part of Korea(Seo Chon County). Pots with rye+vetch were transplanted from field of RDA(rural development administration) in Suwon on 2 February 2007 and other mixture treatments were sowed on early March with different sowing rate(7:3=Italian:crimson, 6:4=oat:pea). $(^{15}NH_4)_2SO_4$ solution at. $99.8\;atom%^{15}N$ was applied to the each pot at the rate of $2kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$. Application was done on 6 April at rye+vetch pots and remainder were applied on April 16. Forage were harvested from each pot at ground level in heading stage and separated into legume and grass. Total N content and $^{15}N$ value were determined using a continuous flow stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry. DM yield of rye+vetch, Italian+crimson and oat+pea were 6,607, 3,213 and 4,312 kg/ha, respectively. Proportion of N from fixation was 0.73(rye+vetch), 0.42(Italian+crimson) and 0.93(oat+pea). The percentages of N transfer from legume to grass were from 61% to 24% in different method by treatment and -35% to 21% in isotope dilution method.

Monitoring of Crop Water Stress with Temperature Conditions Using MTCI and CCI (가뭄과 폭염 조건에서 MTCI와 CCI를 이용한 수분 스트레스 평가)

  • The intensity of crop water stress caused by moisture deficit is affected by growth and heat conditions. For more accurate detection of crop water stress state using remote sensing techniques, it is necessary to select vegetation indices sensitive to crop response and to understand their changes considering not only soil moisture deficit but also heat conditions. In this study, we measured the MERIS terrestrial chlorophyll index (MTCI) and chlorophyll/carotenoid index (CCI) under drought and heat wave conditions. The MTCI, sensitive to chlorophyll concentration, sensitively decreased on non-irrigation conditions and the degree was larger with heat waves. On the other hand, the CCI, correlated with photosynthesis efficiency, showed less sensitivity to water deficit but had decreased significantly with heat waves. After re-irrigation, the MTCI was increased than before damage and CCI became more sensitive to heat stress. These results are expected to contribute to evaluating the intensity of crop water stress through remote sensing techniques.

  • 최근 전 세계적으로 기후변화 및 이상기후로 인해 홍수, 가뭄과 같은 수자원과 관련된 재해들의 빈도가 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 가뭄은 발생 시작 및 종료 시기가 명확하지 않고, 그 피해가 광범위한 특징으로 인해 농업분야에 직접적인 피해를 주고 있으며, 농산물 생산성 및 안정적인 농업용수 확보에 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 과거 가뭄을 해석하기 위해서는 일반적으로 강수량, 가뭄지수 등 단일지표를 활용하여 가뭄을 평가하였으나, 최근 선제적인 가뭄대응을 위해 다양한 인자들을 종합하여 판단하는 취약성 평가 (Vulnerability Assessment) 개념을 도입하였다. 농업가뭄 취약성은 IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)에서 기상 및 수문학적 가뭄에 의한 작물 생산 피해 및 가축의 피해를 동반할 수 있는 가능성으로 정의한다. 본 연구에서는 농업용 저수지 중심의 농업용수 기반 취약성 평가 항목을 선정하여 농업가뭄 취약지도를 작성하였다. 민감도, 노출도 및 적응능력 개념에 적합한 대응변수를 활용하여 저수지의 저수율, 용수 부족 및 가뭄 대응능력 뿐만 아니라 사회·환경적, 기상학적 영향을 고려한 평가 항목 선정하였다. 항목별 단위 및 특성을 통합하기 위해 스케일 재조정 (Re-Scaling), Z-Score 등 다양한 방법을 활용하여 표준화를 실시하였으며, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), 엔트로피 분석 등을 통해 항목별 가중치를 산정하였다. 또한 농업가뭄에 긍정적인 영향과 부정적인 영향을 미치는 항목을 구분하여 대응변수를 적용하였다. 이를 바탕으로 농업가뭄 취약성을 평가하여 항목별 등급을 구분하였으며, 전국 167개 시군을 대상으로 농업가뭄 취약지도를 작성하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 시군별 맞춤형 농업가뭄 대응정책의 기초자료 활용 가능하며, 농업가뭄 취약지역/상습가뭄지역에 대한 정보 제공이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.
